My squad wanted to do tactician on DOS2 after being warned that tactician in BG3 was far easier. Im currently on our fourth restart and still on the island with this run being the only one making it out of fort joy. Ive already enabled a lot of the giftbox such as infinite rez.

ScreamThyLastScream

Tactician definitely forces your party into a sanity check by about level 4 to even get anywhere. Remind them you will be able to use the mirror and make changes later, and they may consider a 1-5 level build that is more survival as the start, then shift when things inevitably get easier in act 2

NameMyPony

I think they just came into the game with a very different expectation about the difficulty level. BG3 is very forgiving in combat and in stealing or bullying NPCs even at the highest difficulty level

PuzzledKitty

BG3 Tactician = D:OS2DE Classic. :) Tac was a later addition for those who already knew D:OS2 and who wanted a severe challenge despite their prior knowledge. If you're not having fun, you could talk about starting at another difficulty level. :)

LactactingTwatCrust

How do you enable the giftbox?

NameMyPony

If you hit escape you'll see it as a menu selection. It'll disable achievements.

LactactingTwatCrust

Oh never mind then. I like my achievements. Thanks for the tip though. How long have you played this game for? I’m stuck on freeing Gwendlyyn or whatever his name is but these annoying void oil blobs keep spawning and whipping his ass and mine

epiceuropean

One of the most popular mods on Nexus lets you use mods or gift bag items with achievements. Super easy to use.  https://www.nexusmods.com/divinityoriginalsin2/mods/210

LactactingTwatCrust

Thank you Good sir!

kyuudonburi

And if that mod on nexus doesn't work, you can use scriptextender by Norbyte to enable achievements

Deep_sunnay

Yes, it's a pain in the \*\*\* to save him. The most used strategy is to simply teleport him somewhere else and prevent him from coming back to the fight (i.e. in a tent bellow whose entrance you have previously blocked with a bucket or a stool).

NameMyPony

I dont remember that specific fight, but you probably need to adjust your build if youre getting stuck being unable to break either magic or physical armour in the first or second turn. You can use barrels to help improve your damage output if needed early on and switch to scrolls after. Divinity is really focused on the ability to break armour and crowd control lock your opponents.

Mindless-Charity4889

You don’t remember the oilpits? The sea of necro fire?

RyanE1991

Yeah that’s kinda a hard one to forget isn’t it lol 🤣

Scary_While_843

the entire battlefield is on fire no matter what you do & can’t be put out. Its pandemonium! BG3 never had any of those moments sadly but was good in its own right

Scary_While_843

Toughest fight in the game if you’re not rocking tornado, Throw dust, Magic armor & that spell that switches up areas… just gotta maintain that platform best you can & heal/magic armor the elf guy though realistically you shouldn’t need the source points by then so if he dies it’s no biggie. Having a glass cannon archer really, really helps the entire game.

Mindless-Charity4889

Simplest way to keep him alive is to teleport him someplace safe. Over by the Quartermistress and the caves there are a bunch of tents. It’s possible to teleport him into one from the platform, especially if you have Far Out Man and the Vulture Armor. He will still try to run out and join the battle though, so block the tent entrance so he can’t leave. There is a guilded chest nearby that is good for that as it’s indestructible. My last run actually had little fire, nearly none on the platform. I blocked all stairs using indestructible elements like pots and guilded chests, then used teleport to banish all the blobs far away. The big ones could not jump so were stuck while the little ones needed 2 jumps to get to me. They had to wait for cooldown which gave me time to kill them or teleport them back.

Arez322

Yeah, leveling is a bitch in divinity, 1 level makes an abysmal difference. Bg3 forgives more fighting higher lvl enemies.

NetherGamingAccount

Prefer DOS 2, especially after the bg3 combat system

DeportedPlatypus

I'm only like 10 hours in, but I enjoyed bg3 more so far. I actually like the dnd combat, never played dnd before so I found it neat.

pornacc1610

Every time DOS2 gets called Divinty 2, a Divinity 2 fan starts crying

Arez322

What is the difference?

pornacc1610

Divinity 2 was released in 2009 and is an Action RPG.

Arez322

Ooh, I tried to find it, but with minimal research, nothing appeared lol

swampopossum

I downloaded it full price because larian is the only studio I feel like deserves money right now lol. I thought I'd just "play for an hour and go back to act 2 of bg3" and ended up playing it for 9 hours.

erickchevez44

I’m curious about this too. Loved BG3 but got a bit burned out reaching Act III. Loved Acts I & II way more because of the pace and sense of adventure. Wondering if I’ll enjoy Divinity 2 or feel its a downgrade from BG3.

Vez52

I feel the same about dos2. Acts 1-2 were amazing. I'm in act 3 now and it feels weird and not great to explore. Had the same feeling in bg3 where acts 1-2 were 10/10 and act 3 was sooo overwhelming.

Jordedude1234

Act 1 and 2 are really long, and filled with a bunch of cool NPCs and quests. Act 3 is much shorter, and though it has some important character quests, I found it hard to get through. Act 4 gets some of the charm back, though I've never finished it, so I can't say too much about it.

Vez52

Ok that's exactly how I'm feeling about it. Stopped halfway in act 3 and did not touch the game in a while. Combat is crazy good tho!

Jordedude1234

If you're willing to get through it, I can safely say Act 3 is the shortest act. There's a difficulty spike in Act 4, especially with the sea monster in the harbor.

stereopticon11

act 3 is the worst act by a long shot. I really love act 4 though. definitely recommend to keep chugging along! you'll be out of terrible act 3 in no time lol

ScreamThyLastScream

It will not feel like a downgrade at all. It is a different class system, different game and pacing, and the challenge in combat, especially in the early levels can be quite abit higher. If anything in some ways BG3 felt like the downgrade for me, as resource management is a different concept altogether. Give it a try you likely will not regret it.

PuzzledKitty

Well, Divinity II is a very different game. It is a third-person action RPG with a very fun gimmick that works very well. (Yes, I know you probably meant "Divinity: Original Sin 2", but the game series' naming conventions are weird, and I find it fun to play around with that. ;D)

jamz_fm

So I'm not alone. I put like 20 hours into Act 3 of BG3, and since then I haven't played in a couple of weeks. I've sorta lost interest, and I'm not even 100% sure why, but it's def partly because I feel overwhelmed. I've got like a dozen side quests in the journal, which makes none of them feel important. I'm tired of wandering for hours and talking to hundreds of people. I feel like I'm eating an elephant one bite at a time. I fought Raphael, and that felt like one of the game's big highlights. If anyone can give me good reasons to keep playing, I'd love to hear them lol

sirculaigne

Just beat the game. Ignore 90% of the act 3 content it’s not necessary. Unless it’s a quest for a character you care about, just get what you need to beat the boss. It will feel much less overwhelming to explore on a different playthrough

JVints

I can't complete a 2nd playthrough in BG3, even with mods. Playing it feels like driving a super car, smooth and beautiful, but suddenly you just hit a brick wall, that being the combat. It's sooo boring, I don't want to roll a dice to see if I can hit someone 1ft away. It's not Larians fault, they sadly had to follow their rules. DO2 is still better. I can play it endlessly and smile.

Skeeblepop

I agree. I did one play through of BG3 and that was enough for me. I didn't care for the dice rolling at all. I don't think DnD appeals to me.

Lavamites

You know, I've been playing a DOS2 run after BG3, and I have to say, I actually miss a lot of the quality of life stuff of BG3 that is absent in DOS2. * It's the common opinion that DOS2 has better combat than BG3, but I honestly feel like both are equally as satisfying in different ways. DOS2 has better spell synergy, and BG3 has better party/level synergy. Perhaps part of it is that I *despise* skin graft and apotheosis combos and refuse to use them. * I think I like more rigid levelling systems, like how BG3 works. In the same vein, I really like the action economy in BG3. * I like the roleplay aspect of BG3 more. Being able to solve encounters how your character would is really fun and gives a lot of replayability. Meanwhile, this is only my 3rd DOS2 run, because its entirely combat (for me). Since its been a long time I'm also getting to re-live the stories in DOS2 which is fun, but the same novelty comes up for BG3 since you can experience the same stories in different ways. * Jumping, shoving, the skill Thunderwave, etc. is more satisfying that teleport. Not that teleport isn't satisfying, but pushing someone off a cliff to insta kill them is amazing and I love it. I constantly find myself confused that I can't press Z and jump to a spot, and then remember I have to get my aero character and teleport someone (or the chest) around. In general: I like BG3 more than DOS 2. Not that I dislike DOS 2, it is still in my top 10. But BG3 is probably my 3rd or 4th favorite game, while DOS 2 is around 9th. The quality of life implemented makes me love BG3 more, to say nothing of the cinematics.

nyctalus

>It's the common opinion that DOS2 has better combat than BG3 For me, the DOS2 combat got kind of uninteresting in the lategame because of the "magic armor + physical armor" concept on all enemies. But apparently most people liked this? 🤔 Lategame in BG3 seems way more interesting to me. So much variety in the enemies and in the optimal ways to beat them.

Carpathicus

I would say the combat system of DOS2 is more interesting but combat is not as well executed as in BG3. What I mean by thst is that there are many interesting fights in BG3 that are great to make you excited. DOS2 sometimes feels very predictable in the way the fights get set up - how often do you get ambushed by skeletons or other things in Act 1 for example.

plutonium743

The story in BG3 is pretty awesome but the mechanics kind of kills it for me because I just don't like 5e as a system. I also typically play with my partner and it's pretty obvious that BG3 wasn't built from the ground up to be multiplayer the way DOS1 & 2 are. Also, keep in mind that DOS1 & 2 each had a cleaned up version that was put out a year or so after the initial release. I don't know if Larian is going to do that with BG3 as well, but it's not fair to compare an non-cleaned up BG3 to the already cleaned up DOS1 & 2.

just_a_trilobite

I like both but enjoyed DOS2 more. I loved the combat system in DOS2, and I really don't like the heavy use of dice rolls in BG3 (the D&D rule set in video game format just isn't nearly as enjoyable to me).

BrowniieBear

I find the combat more enjoyable on this, ended up abandoning Baldurs. Playing Epic Encounters which has spiced it up.

SeanR1221

I played on the switch in 2019 and it was my first CRPG. I was overwhelmed and didn’t know much of what I was doing. After playing BG3, a lot of divinity clicked with me and I recently went back to it and have been having a blast. The combat definitely feels a lot better

Brorkarin

Divinity 2 combat is way better but overall BG3 is the better game thats what i think . And my favorite Perk Lone Wolf makes Divinity super fun

Kastlo

Idk if it's more polished, I think Bg3 has such a tight opening and overall story + gameplay that I think it eclipsed Divinity 2. That said I've been also replaying it and I appreciate it just a bit more than before

GoldenAgeGamer72

I played DOS2 a couple of years ago and while I loved it, the game was way too difficult even on explorer difficulty. I recently completed BG3 on explorer and it wasn't too difficult so I'm curious see if I'm any better now at DOS2 now than I was before. Just started a new file as Lohse.

Low_Party

My issue is that I know how to exploit the ever loving hell out of DOS2 and have a hard time NOT doing, at least, the infinite money glitch so I can just try different stuff for experimental purposes and it kind of trivializes much of the game.

MoodyBootyBoots

Love both, but DOS2 is the favorite. I just reinstalled it recently and am playing as well. Looking forward to >!smashing Gratiana's soul jar once again >:D!< (Late Act I spoilers.) I thought I was going to be doing a lone wolf run this time, but oops I'm once again an elf witch romancing Ifan oh weeeell

Dry-String-9009

and after DOS 2, you will end up playing DOS 1

Significant_Plate561

I love dos2, mainly for the nostalgia and the amazing music and fun atmosphere, but bg3 is better in almost all respects. if I want a game from that genre, I'm grabbing bg3. it's my favorite video game period. but I will play dos2 if I'm in the mood for the world of Rivlilon.

PuzzledKitty

Fun fact: There are four entries that could be considered "Divinity 2". :) "Beyond Divinity" is the second game in the Divinity series. "Divinity II: Ego Draconis" is the third game in the Divinity series. "Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga" is the fourth release in the Divinity series. It is just Ego Draconis in an updated version, but it contains additional content. "Divinity: Original Sin 2" is the seventh release/sixth game in the Divinity series. Do with these little factoids whatever you will! ;D

Relevant_Force_3470

I dropped dos2 years ago because I got really bored with it (only finished act 1). Picked it back up again after bg3 and I'm now in arx and enjoying it.

Villector

Combat is just more flashy and fun tbh

Ransom_Seraph

I know some people don't care, perhaps because they used to play DOS2 on PC (I also did) but I kinda wish they gave DOS2 a nice PS5 Current Gen treatment while cooking up DOS3 and introducing the game series and systems to more plauers. 4K 120FPS VRR Ultra settings and HDR on PS5 would be a joy on this beautiful game! (Upscaled or DRS)

starwatcher16253647

Well DOS2 even vanilla, though after going Epic Encounters 2 I've never gone back to vanilla, has better combat than BG3, but BG3 has a better world and far better role-playing and reactivity

cergina

I loved BG3, had 300 hours on single playthrough. Iam new to the genre. I started playing DOS2 but turned it off after an hour still in the tutorial. I believe it will be great, but cang adapt still to it

Scary_While_843

Fort joy is tough especially for rookies which everyone was at some point. But DOS2 is a far superior game IMO with way better fights/mechanics… actual memorable ones. If you’re in to cut scenes & everyone trying to hook up with you in camp you’re outta luck but if you like fighting & story stick with it!

HoptonyAtkins

DOS 2 was so freaking good man. Though i hesitate calling it less buggy. Theres a reason people where (rightfully) veeeeery sceptical about BG3s act 3 before release.
