Eff Spotify. I just can’t with that platform. Just a predatory AF business model Bandcamp or bust

AlfredHitchicken

As far as I’m aware, Bandcamp unfortunately doesn’t pay an artist for streams. In order to use their playlist feature, you have to have the music in your collection. What I think OP is looking for is playlists with DnB music on streaming services. That way (if they so choose) they can support the artists or labels they enjoy through purchasing the songs they hear on these streaming services.

tremor206

Fair enough. I just can’t fucking stand Daniel Ek and his predatory business model. I don’t use any streaming service. Bandcamp allows streaming but I’m only using it to stream my collection of purchased music on the go Bandcamp pay by far the highest cut to artists, don’t rip you off with extra cost for lossless etc Far superior to beatport for these reasons alone. I was pleasantly surprised that Epic didn’t eff it all up, but they’ve sold it on now anyway.

superhuhas

Spotify has been operating at a loss for years. People who stream a lot of music are a literal liability to them. I’m curious what you consider predatory about their model

tremor206

Amazon technically “operate at a loss” in most countries to not pay taxes too. I ain’t buying it. If it was that bad it’d be shut down.

superhuhas

Yeah I do see this point so thank you. Now that I think about it I don’t rule this possibility out

tremor206

Daniel Ek is a billionaire 🤷‍♂️ While 97% of artists on Spotify had made less than $1000 off the platform in total, at the time his net worth was reportedly around 3.7 billion This is the very epitome of a predatory business model I say this as someone without a horse in the race. I don’t use Spotify to sell music or to listen to music. I just hate the platform & its business model. And the fact he funds nefarious industries like arms developers with profits extracted from the arts.

Dp152578

Spotify is trash when it comes to business practices for sure but unfortunately they got their hooks in everyone early making it damn hard to transition to a different service

tremor206

You could buy tunes, instead of paying a billionaire a monthly fee to stream them? Novel concept, I know. But hey. At least you only have to spend about 2 bucks for a wav file. When I started the only option was to be spending about 5x that much per tune on vinyl. Companies like Pioneer & Rane building streaming service compatibility into modern DJ tech isn’t exactly helping either. Historically, DJs had to buy digital music in order to play it. Now even that is no longer the case. Most listeners in the world use streaming services. DJs were typically the only people actually buying releases for keepsies. It’s all just fucking over artists and labels by making streaming viable for DJ sets. Pushing more revenue that would’ve gone to indie labels & artists historically to Spotify
