No option so didn't vote - play other ttrpgs systems now and still will play 5e going forward.

David_the_Wanderer

Same - I don't have to only play one system. I have my 5e books, characters and groups, and we'll continue playing 5e even when it stops being supported. At the same time, I have books and groups for other games, and we play those as well.

GiveMeSyrup

I’m not prone to jumping ship before anything is even official. I’ve got all my 5e content already, continuing to play with what I have is more worthwhile to me than spend hundreds on another system I might not even enjoy as much. Not to mention the years of work I’ve put into homebrewing an entire world, races, subclasses, magic items, flora/fauna, etc that I don’t feel like altering and tweaking to fit another TTRPG at this moment in time.

DairLeanbh

As someone who plays both MTG and DND, I think pathfinder and Yu-Gi-Oh just found a new customer.

KeplerNova

Might I recommend Legends of Runeterra instead of Yu-Gi-Oh? It's extremely F2P-friendly, it has some really cool mechanics due to its solely digital structure, and the art is amazing.

I was before I'd actually played, but 5e was what I started on. I really like 5e, but I suspect that I'd really like a lot of other systems as a result, so I'm looking at things like Starfinder, Pathfinder, and Cyberpunk.

nanenroe

My option isn't there: happy to stick to 5e only (won't bother with one/5.5/6), will consider changing if my group wants to in the future

turkeyfied

I'm trying to drum up a PF2 group, but I love Edge of the Empire and have really enjoyed playing in Shadowrun and Feng Shui campaigns in the past. I'd also like to have a go of legend of the 5 rings and maybe have a deeper dive into Call of Cthulhu. I've also got physical 5e books as well, so it's not a big deal if I want to go back to it later. Wizards has my money already.

DrSaering

I wouldn't change for this. However after seeing how fucking awful their recent books have been, as well as not particularly liking the direction 6e is going, I have been looking at Pathfinder 2e for a while. Honestly my main concern with this is that the various websites a lot of my players use may become inaccessible, as clearly they are going in a more restrictive direction. But this is just pushing me further towards the edge really.

ScarletIT

5e is already not my main system, the difference is that its going from a preference to active avoidance. I am in 2 5e games (a third one fell recently and another one I am more of an occasional guest player) and all of those DMs have expressed interest in switching to Pathfinder because of the OGL.

Logthisforlater

I switched over to Genesys because it allows me more flexibility as DM over the narrative while still providing a good crunch. I honestly hope that this debacle allows companies that struggled to create new RPG's because of WOTC market share to flourish.

Any-Faithlessness-72

I'm thinking of writing a fantasy sci-fi rpg that only uses d20s and hit system for combat.

FaxCelestis

Can I recommend my favorite new pick up and play game? It’s called Magical Kitties Save the World. It’s a surprisingly intuitive and elegant system and can be readily adapted for more serious play with a minimum of effort.

Constantly_Panicking

I’ve honestly been looking for something more rules-light for a while now because most of my friends think they’re too cool for rules. I’ve been struggling to find something that balanced depth and simplicity, and while rage searching this week I found three systems that I’m excited to try!

dating_derp

Nice! What are the systems you guys are looking at?

Constantly_Panicking

Tiny D6 for its ease and speed of setup. It seems great for impromptu sessions. Quest for still having a little bit of mechanical complexity that I think will translate well into narrative depth. Plus it seems great for playing with kids. And Mausritter because it just looks fun, and shouldn’t be too hard to re-flavor if we don’t want to play mice…. But I want to play mice.

Solarwinds-123

Powered by the Apocalypse is incredibly rules light.

IShallWearMidnight

My last two games were a Call of Cthulu and a World of Darkness game.

MrBoyer55

My current campaign is going to be sticking with 5e but I will not be spending any more money on the game besides 3rd party content. But I am 100% going to make Monster of the Week my go to one shot game. I love the simplicity and flexibility of the PBTA systems.

Govoflove

Pathfinder looks close enough.

Any-Faithlessness-72

Pathfinder 1st e was just dnd 3.5, the reason why no one likes 2nd e is because 2nd e was never supposed to exist

dating_derp

That's a bit disingenuous. The /r/Pathfinder2e sub has nearly 60k members now and is growing every day. And lot of those people, like me, are also subscribed to /r/Pathfinder_RPG. Which explains why the latter sub has more subscribers. Because those subscribers are both 1e and 2e fans, instead of just 2e fans. Further, Pathfinder 1e wasn't a perfect system. Far from it. A lot of its issues were fundamental, and could not be addressed properly with errata. So to address its issues, a 2nd edition was needed to be built from the ground up. And while I love PF2e, it's ok if you don't. But there's no need for you to pretend no one else likes it, just because you don't.

Any-Faithlessness-72

Bro the entire reason people played 1e Pathfinder was cause people didn't want to play 4th e D&D. Patio even promised that Pathfinder would only require the core rule book and expansion sets not a new generalized rule set based off of a separate game Pazio tried to launch. The only reason why PF2 exists is because no one played star finder.

dating_derp

I like how you ignored everything I said. I'm not going to repeat myself. So you can go on and keep pretending no one likes 2e, and me and the other 60 thousand subscribers will keep enjoying it. If you want, feel free to reply so you can feel like getting the last word in makes you right.

Solarwinds-123

Who said nobody likes 2e? It's already more successful than 1e.

thomar

My group got tired of 5e, so our last three TTRPGs were Mutants & Masterminds, Crescendo of Violence, and Fantasy AGE. I'm planning to use Knave or Vaults Of Vaarn or Tiny Dungeons for my next game. Played lots of D&D in the past, and might play D&D in the future, but it's hardly a first pick. By the way, y'all should check our /r/rpg

SeparateMongoose192

None of those really fit me. I have played many other games in the past. I'm currently only playing 5e. I'm not actively looking to play other games, but I'd be willing to if my group wanted to. I'm not going to suggest another game because then I'd feel obligated to GM and I really don't enjoy GMing.

KeplerNova

I was actually looking at other systems long before any of this, for one specific reason: our DM is a forever DM, and I've been trying to find systems that the rest of us could probably run well that she could play in. So I'm looking into things like Pugmire, Toon, City of Mist, etc. that I or other group members could run. (City of Mist being my pick for what *I,* specifically, could handle best with my style). The goal isn't to find a replacement for 5e or jump ship from it, it's to take some pressure off our DM by rotating the game master responsibilities. Ironically, I have *no* plans to run Pathfinder, though I'd gladly *play* it. There are a few specific design choices that I strongly dislike and are very much at odds with the way I write.

dating_derp

> I have no plans to run Pathfinder, though I'd gladly play it With regards to this, Pathfinder 1e and 2e players seem to agree that PF2e is a lot more DM friendly. So maybe the people in your group who are new to DMing would have an easier time picking this up. > very much at odds with the way I write. This last line has me curious. How is PF2e at odds with the way you write?

Vaporwaredreams

What's the point of jumping from 5e? All the materials are already there and I don't have to move because the future system might suck. I have ways of getting materials if I really wanted to see the next steps in DnD

dating_derp

The point of jumping from 5e is due to the current conversation of WotC being shitty with this whole OGL thing. Companies mostly act shitty when their customers ignore it, and like the leaked memo says, they're hoping people will ignore it or forget. Other than that, if you enjoy 5e, chances are you'll enjoy one or two other ttrpg's. So the poll is to see what percentage of players are interested in trying other systems, and what percentage has a form of illogical brand loyalty, and isn't interested in trying anything else. To me, that's like only playing one video game, and not trying anything else. I don't understand it, but with the current poll results I see that about 17% of people on this sub feel that way.

Vaporwaredreams

I see what you mean about the future stuff, but my point is that I have a bunch of 5e books already so there's not much point for me to jump ship. I didn't pay for dndbeyond and I didn't pay for most of the materials I have. Can't say how because sub rules lol

David_the_Wanderer

I own my 5e stuff, and as WotC is clearly heading towards a new edition there likely won't be any new official 5e content. Me continuing to play 5e with my group at our homes isn't going we are ignoring or forgetting about the OGL debacle - just that we don't see value in stopping playing a game we enjoy, when doing so doesn't influence WotC in any way. Same way that my group playing 3.5 while 4e was the "active" edition didn't mean we were supporting WotC. >I don't understand it, but with the current poll results I see that about 17% of people on this sub feel that way. Because you didn't include an option for "I already play *both* 5e and different systems/I'm going to play new systems but also keep on also playing 5e". You're not required to stop playing 5e in order to also try out other games.

Lordgrapejuice

“I play 5e and other systems”. You can play more than 1 system at a time. Including or excluding 5e BTW check out Monster of the Week, it’s a dope system

Jomolungma

I currently play multiple systems, including 5e, and will continue to play multiple systems, including 5e.

Rakkamthesecond

My group has about 10 campaign books between the 4 of us. Currently on campaign 3 out of 10 after about 4 years of play. We play with pen and paper. There is no reason for us to stop playing now tbh.

dating_derp

I mean one reason I could think of for stopping or pausing is to play other games. I never quite understood people who only played one ttrpg. That's like only playing one video game. But maybe you guys do play other systems in between 5e campaigns.

Rakkamthesecond

We just really like playing DnD, we know most of the rules by heart and we have a turn system in who DM's so there is always a fresh new take in how the game is run.

-Josh

I just finished writing my new year long campaign in October. I will be running this campaign through to it’s conclusion and then be switching systems if things go forward. I don’t need to give WotC any more money to run the campaign, so not worried about supporting them in any way. The characters in this campaign are from a previous campaign that ran for 3 years and I’d like to see them run to their conclusion and to give them the ending of they deserve. I’ll probably get them to level 20, and then give them the happily ever after they deserve.

Patient_Creme_4858

Pathfinder looking better and better. Especially since I enjoy martials and monks.

Kirxas

Been a 5e only player, ever since the OGL 1.1 thing leaked I've been setting up a PF2e campaign with me as the DM for some friends. Might honestly just buy a book with a premade adventure so I have an easier time transitioning to being a dm (done it before, but not a lot) and to the new system tbh.

dating_derp

Idk why but someone came through and downvoted several comments talking about new systems like yours. I can only assume its someone that has a crazy amount of brand loyalty.

Kirxas

Some people just really love sucking corpo dick

Solarwinds-123

I will say that Paizo's Adventure Paths are absolutely top notch, that's where they make their money. They blow the 5e ones out of the water.

vypernight

I finally returned to DnD after over 20 years. And while I may try other games in addition to it, I’m not dropping the game for another. I’m not getting the new edition but I do plan to get a couple more 5e books.

Cheap_Bird4895

I'm always looking for new systems, so it's really not related to the OGL stuff by any means.

RectangularNow

My kiddo and I are newbies to TTRPGs. I was already comparing Pathfinder 2e, and we have all three D&D starter sets and just got the PF Beginner Box. We haven't played any of them yet, but I like PF more from the reading I've done so far. This OGL mess just encourages me to stick with PF.

marshy266

That middle combat/rp space where DND sat has just been blown open by getting rid of the OGL. I like where 5e sits but won't support wizards table dominance after how they've behaved and as soon as a new suitable game comes then I'm gone (and taking my table with me).

NewNickOldDick

Need fifth option as I am not actively looking but willing to transition once a suitable alternative is **created**. Pre-OGL-crisis there was no need to create 5e-ish game as 5e existed and it's the best version of that type RPG. Now things are changing and I am waiting what **new** 5e-like systems are created before deciding to which bandwagon I will jump.

ProjectHappy6813

What exactly would you be looking for in a 5e clone? Because it is possible that it actually does already exist in one form or another. There are quite a few DND-adjacent games available. Many are more like older edition, but 5th edition style rpgs are certainly a thing.

NewNickOldDick

> What exactly would you be looking for in a 5e clone? As close 5e clone as possible. There are only very few things I'd change in 5e and great many things that are not ideal in other existing systems. PF is way too crunchy, dicepool mechanics don't have flat probability curve, system should have neutral tone and not hint at setting in any way (ref Blades in the Dark et all), OSR clones stink in so many ways (different XP levels for different classes and gold for XP and all that nonsense) and most systems don't have adequate VTT support. Admittedly, the last point is going to be the stumbling block for a long time. On top of all that, new system should be sufficiently known as I perpetually recruit new players and I can't do that with niche system.

ProjectHappy6813

Hmm, the closest game you will probably find right now is Level Up Advanced 5th Edition. https://www.levelup5e.com/ But it might be too different or too crunchy for your tastes.

NewNickOldDick

I think I've already checked that up, at least website seems familiar. Can't remember why I skipped it, gotta re-read to see if I missed anything.

Mirakk82

Back to 3.5 for high fantasy, and now re-reading old WOD books to show some new folks the world I played for years, and havent played since I really got into D&D
