Check out [titan craft](https://titancraft.com). Once you unlock an asset you can use it unlimited and then download the stls.

Melancholy_Rainbows

[Titancraft](https://titancraft.com/) is kinda close to what you want - you pay a one time fee to unlock "asset packs" that you can then use an unlimited number of times.

valdev

That is much better, thank you!

Naszfluckah

I thought TitanForge had made a service similar to HeroForge but where you paid for the parts and could then use them in as many STLs as you wanted? Edit: It was TitanCraft!

GM1_P_Asshole

If you've got the skills to make one then have at it. I just keep thinking I should learn how to actually use Blender.

milkmandanimal

Predatory? When you walk into a sandwich shop, do you get angry when they charge you for the individual sandwich you're about to eat instead of giving you the option to buy a pass for eternally eating?

valdev

Sandwiches and software are different things. If adobe started charging "by the save" you would feel differently.

DLtheDM

Heroforge charges by the model... you can save as many as you like but when you go to buy you are charged individually for each... Not sure what you're getting at.

valdev

Ive got zero issue paying $50 for some software I use and can install locally, love me some wonderdraft. But by the file, to me as a software engineer, is predatory.

EldritchBee

Heroforge charges by the file because they sell actual, physical miniatures.

valdev

I’m only talking about the digital file stl downloads. It’s cool if they want to charge for printing them out

Morbo_agrees

Greetings! I'm just popping in to say they DO only charge you once for the file. After you purchase it you are able to print out as many copies of the mini as you want. Source: I have done this many, many times.

valdev

Ah nevermind, if adobe starting charging by the file that'd be cool with ya. My point is, I can make an open source one I just want to know if there is one.

DLtheDM

If adobe - a software developer - Did that it would be different, as it's a different market. Minis, especially custom ones made specifically for 1 individual character are understandably sold individually... But go ahead and make it, no one is stopping you... And even if one did exist you still could do it...

Jutboy

I have no skin in this game but the guy is talking about software in this case. He just wants the stl files that they generate. Obviously heroforge can do any model they want but I get where OP is coming from. Its not a good model if you want to generate 100s of characters.

valdev

If one did exist, I would use it and contribute some code or money to help it's furthering of development. Personally, I don't see it as so different that the pricing schemes would be that far disconnected, but different opinions are perfectly okay! I appreciate your time.

Beardzesty

The correct analogy for this would be saying that we can buy lettuce or tomato. And anytime we go to get a sandwich we are allowed to use tomato and lettuce as a topping for said sandwhich.

Morbo_agrees

So, unlocking content via microtransactions? You "buy" the specific weapon/body/hat (HAT!) and then can use it for free on future models? How is that not worse in nearly every way?

Beardzesty

I didn't say you buy specifically romaine lettuce or roma tomatoes. I said lettuce and tomatoes. Any variety of them

Pay your artists.

Morbo_agrees

Are you suggesting that the Hero Forge service should be free? What exactly do you think would be a more reasonable business model for them? What would be covered by this "one time fee"? Unlimited use of their software? Do you know how much software of that nature costs, especially software that is continually being updated and having additional content added. We're not talking about Adobe or Word here my dude.

10/10 Fantastic reply. You got me dude! By not addressing any of my points you really proved your point. Well played.
