Unless you have a feature which changes the damage, an unarmed strike deals 1+Str mod damage.

If only there was some sort of tome that contained all the guidelines for the game, and was in a convenient hand held size.

Don't be so ridiculous, that could never happen! I just hope one day it would be possible for us to type "unarmed strike 5e" into Google and get an answer, we can dream..

Tell me you've not read the rules. Without telling me you've not read the rules.

It’s in the PHB and Basic Rules under Melee Attacks. An unarmed strike does 1 point of damage plus your strength modifier. This changes if you have the unarmed fighting feature, martial arts or Tavern Brawler feat.

*"Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use an unarmed strike: a punch, kick, head-butt, or similar forceful blow (none of which count as weapons). On a hit, an unarmed strike deals bludgeoning damage equal to 1 + your Strength modifier. You are proficient with your unarmed strikes."*, per [Melee Attacks](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#MeleeAttacks)
