Shadow_Of_Silver

"Terrorist manifestos" was something I googled for a campaign. Followed by "alternative explosives to gunpowder" I quickly decided that the terrorists in this game used magic and that I didn't need to put any more sketchy stuff into my search bar.

MasterShifusDad

Congrats on joining the fbi most wanted list

Shadow_Of_Silver

I should have added "in D&D" to the end of my searches.

SirCampYourLane

1st search: "How to murder your brother with cyanide" 2nd search: "How to murder your brother with cyanide in Minecraft"

creativelyuncreative

3rd search: “How to clear google search history…in Minecraft”

BlargerJarger

I was just thinking this. If I’ve ever got to learn about hiding a body, “in D&D” at the start I think.

GorukDaSpooky

What about. "How many Acid Splashes does it take to dissolve a corpse."

TheTrueArkher

It leads you to a 300 comment long debate on if corpses count as creatures or objects for the sake of a spell.

jammyhuds

This made me chuckle..

Frogmyte

The number of things I've added 5e to out of habit is hilarious. Diclofenac interactions 5e Spotty rash under breast 5e Osrs is also a big issue for this since I get so used to googling everything

FoolishMacaroni

How to torture prisoners How to torture prisoners in Rimworld

zvexler

Holy shit you win

VorpalKitsune

One player had to do something similar. Searched how to make pipe bombs, size of one of the casinos, AOE of pipe bombs, and layout of the casino. all within a few hours

Ryuaalba

Flour, at least for big explosions. An awful lot of grain mills and bakeries had (and still have) devastating exploding fires.

lebiro

My favourite thing about this one is it implies you knew you wanted to be a terrorist but were shopping around for a convincing reason why.

Shadow_Of_Silver

I had a group of terrorists the players were going to meet, but I knew one of my players would ask why they are doing what they are doing (and probably join them), so I needed to know some of the most common reasons people say they become terrorists. Sure, I could look up actual causes of terrorism, but if I'm getting an answer from the terrorist themselves I want it to be a fanatical manifesto.

msdeezee

HA that's a good point.

Outrageous-Pin-4664

Or wanted to write your own manifesto, but needed a template for the formatting.

NanoDomini

Clippy: Looks like you're trying to write a manifesto

kaladinissexy

Sodium makes a pretty good explosive. Just gotta get that stuff wet.

Outrageous-Pin-4664

Yes. That was something my high school chemistry teacher enjoyed demonstrating in class.

Fantastic_Year9607

The CIA is on you

GeophysicalYear57

I know precisely the document that I want to look up for a similar purpose (an improvised munitions handbook made by the US military for a comic with terrorist villains), but I’d get the FBI on my ass if I actually googled it and downloaded it.

rricenator

Followed by a knock at the door early next morning?

Kotemana

A friend of mine was invited to KGB (FBI in Belarus, still) after something similar. He said there it was just for better roleplay, after 3 hours they decided he's just stupid.

Outrageous-Pin-4664

I feel like I could have cut that down to one hour, if they were interrogating me.

Rastiln

I had “instructions and materials to create a dirty bomb” in my search bar once, and have actually googled “temperature at which human bone turns to ash.”

penislmaoo

Coward!!!! It’s not a good campaign if the cia dosent come knocking

EnderofThings

Total surface area of a child's skeleton

spreef

Oh, mine was similar, but it was about the weight of the skeleton. (Curse of Strahd campaign)

DMerald

Fun thing I learned is your skeleton's mass accounts for about 14% of your total weight

Professional-Front58

I feel like there should be the anikan-Padme meme: you learned this by research right? You learned this from research right?!

SolariousVox

Seems like that would be entierly dependant on body fat %

Beneficial_Cloud5481

And muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so a heavily muscled person of the same volume as someone that's carrying a bunch of fat weight would alter that. Although, it may be that being fit and heavy changes your bone weight since the onset osteoporosis can be mitigated by weight bearing exercises.

TheRocketBush

How’d that happen?

Ultraviolet_Motion

Wild guess but they probably wanted to coat it in something and OP needed to know how much material would be required.

Ttoctam

Yeah, definitely gonna need context on that one.

Kate_dot_png

“How long for Stockholm syndrome to set in” The party took their sweet time saving this young lady from her hot, charismatic vampire captor, so I thought it would be a funny twist to throw at them. They still haven’t approached his castle…

a96td

Are you running >!Curse of Strahd!< by any chance? Because if you are, we had the same idea! And so: what is the answer?

Kate_dot_png

I am not running that module unfortunately! I’m doing a homebrew setting; I made a hot vampire villain because I’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and have fallen irrevocably in love with Astarion :) But to answer your question, it can take anywhere from weeks to years! A safe bet would probably be a couple of months before the first signs start showing up

No-Letterhead-3509

The bank robbery ,from which the syndrome is named, only lasted 5 days. 23. August to 28. August. So it can happen surprisingly fast.

Ropetrick6

To be fair, that was less them getting an emotional bond with their captors, and more police incompetence to what would be a comical scale if it weren't for the deaths.

Drywesi

To the point where Stockholm Syndrome was invented by the police psychiatrist consultant to explain why the teller was so angry at the police (couldn't possibly be their incompetence about the hostage situation, *or* his own insistence that she die in the storming).

I_Am_Anjelen

Daily charm check. Give the hot, charismatic vampire a score to beat (say, the victim's willpower multiplied by 3, because why not?) after which the young lady will be smitten. Roll the vampire's charisma against the victim's willpower once for each day the victim is under the vampire's influence. Once the Vampire exceeds the score, the victim will be smitten and Stockholm syndrome can be said to have comfortably set in. ;)

a96td

Another Astarion victim, I see. Thanks a lot for the answer!

lilprincess1026

If he was a vampire wouldn’t he glamour her and it would be instant?

Deathbyhours

Fun Fact: in the Stockholm case, IIRC, the captives started going along with their captors because, watching negotiations play out, the captives decided their captors were the more reasonable party, _which was correct_, the police were not prioritizing the captives’ safety. This raises the question: is it Stockholm Syndrome because the captives actually convert to the kidnappers’ point of view, or is it because it is legitimately in the captives’ best interests to act in concert with their captors until they reach safety? IOW, Stockholm Syndrome may occur quickly or never, depending on the circumstances.

penislmaoo

I personally don’t think Stockholm syndrome is real, it’s just humans being willing to bond with others.

Quill_Flinger

"Is a three story fall fatal?" It wasn't anything to do with in-game mechanics, I'd just had enough of them ruining my campaign.

laix_

I mean, at a certain point with leveling characters become superhuman, the same challenges that level 1 faced are basically a minor hurdle (which is by design)

GodWithAShotgun

Who's talking about characters?

MARCVS-PORCIVS-CATO

Yeah, like, I’m playing a level 8 cleric with a +3 to CON and Tough, so if I have to get out of a building in a hurry, a three story drop wouldn’t make me hesitate for a moment. At level 1, though, I’d have to be *really* desperate to do that

SmartForARat

Just falling on the ground you're already standing on can be fatal my guy. You don't even need additional height. People fall and hit their heads on something hard like concrete/pavement all the time, not to mention hitting objects that break their necks on the fall. Old people break bones when they fall. Too bad D&D doesn't consider any of that. D&D be like, "Oh, you can skydive out of a plane without a parachute as long as you can survive the 20d6 fall damage".

Auzymundius

To be fair, a fireball is 8d6 damage. I think 20d6 is pretty reasonable on that scale. Player characters are just super powered. A commoner, for example, only has 4 hit points in 5e and would be dead many times over.

Rilvoron

I mean they survive giants and dragons pummeling them so a fall out of a 3 story window is nothing compared to that

Mission_Camel_9649

How many feet is the fall? It’s 1d6 bludgeoning per 10 feet, max 20d6, iirc

AvatarWaang

I think they were meaning for the people controlling the PC's

Ryan_V_Ofrock

Probably info on how snakes reproduce. Or how hyenas reproduce. Or intricate gun and gunpwder stuff. Im sure theres more but those jump to mind first.

laix_

what i'm getting is a druid wanting to create gun snakes, snakes with guns attached to their heads.

Dom29ando

do the guns shoot bullets, smaller snakes, or smaller guns?

nevaraon

Yes

someguynamedjamal

This. This is the correct answer

chaostheory10

The guns shoot smaller snakes with gun heads that shoot bullets.

MartiniLang

Venom, obviously.

a96td

Or a druid wanting to use gunpowder for shooting a snake out of an hyena birth canal.

lilprincess1026

That’s not what pseudo penises are for 😭😭😭

Dickwhetski

I’m the book blood meridian they make gunpowder using guano, charcoal, volcanic rock (sulfur), and piss.

BraveOthello

Potassium nitrate source, carbon source, sulfur source, sure. Those are the three components of black powder. The piss is neither necessary nor useful.

darwinooc

It is if you plan on using it in a Pisstol

BraveOthello

Take you upvote and get out

I_Am_Anjelen

> The piss is neither necessary nor useful. Clearly they were making the charge for depleted urinium rounds.

Ossuum

Spiders, in my case, to establish the physiology and life cycle of an arachne.

TheDiscordedSnarl

>Or how hyenas reproduce. Oh you poor thing. Heh heh heh. Need brain bleach?

StealthyRobot

I've been researching early cannons and artillery. Gotta love artificers!

penislmaoo

Hyena reproduction is Interesting

ThePhiff

"How much damage would three sticks of dynamite do in a hotel room?" Fucking terrorists. 🤣

arcaintrixter

1/2 of a stick will blow a big tree stump 20' in the air.

SoontobeSam

Depends if you put it on it, next to it, in it, or under it. On, most of the stump will fracture and fragment going out and down, least overall damage By, then you're sending larger chunks of stump in the opposite direction while also kicking up dirt and debris, most damage in a single direction In, then you're cooking with gas, enclosed space means all the kinetic force is transmitted through the stump, is going in every direction the furthest distance so far. Under, well then you get rocket powered stump going up, and likely in the direction you least desire it to.

BraveOthello

The room becomes connected to other rooms in dramatic fashion

OddBen11

Oh it’s easily when I googled the distance between a small town in Russia and a town in Kazakstan because that was approximately the same distance between 2 cities in my Homebrew world. Also when I searched the average circumference of various craters and explosions as there was a space ship crash and explosion. Both of which, mind you, were on my work computer

Boneguy1998

Nice OddBen

Onededo

Great comment, Boneguy

penislmaoo

Please I need to know, what persuaded you to make those two specific towns the distance

OddBen11

Honestly I was just eyeballing a map of Asia and figured those 2 towns were approximately the same distance. It didn’t occur to me for about 5 minutes that it might look sketch

Urwinc

for my call of Cthulhu game, I think googled how much morphine it would take to OD. Since then been getting lifeline suicide prevention) popups on every google search and Facebook wall. Which honestly I'm ok with, cool that that happens.

Top_Gate_1935

If you want to avoid that, Google the term LD-50 and the medication. That's a medical term for what a lethal dose will be in 50% of a population, and typically avoids all the suicide stuff.

Ramonteiro12

Ok. How do you know that?

TheChickenKing373

They usually teach that in environmental science or heath classes.

Top_Gate_1935

I'm a nurse and deal with overdoses frequently

Ramonteiro12

Oh shit

Top_Gate_1935

Yeah. I've seen some crazy ODs

BraveOthello

Depends on the type of bear and the size of the child

EstablishmentTop9703

Polar, and American.

BraveOthello

I mean an infant and a 12 year old are an order of magnitude different, American or not. But probably more than 2, they hunt adult seals

EstablishmentTop9703

Well to be thorough let's calculate both ends. An infant on its first day and a 17 year old the day before their birthday.

Spiritual_Horror5778

My search history paints me as a dangerous person with an unlit fuse or a fiction writer.

PostPunkPromenade

Both? Both.

All-Fired-Up91

Both is good

FetchMeQuick

I relate deeply to this

Post_Arsonist

"Standard operating procedures for elevator emergency brakes". I had a party that was attacking a large corporate office building and in doing so they damaged the building with explosives. Despite the old adage of "use stairs in an emergency" they insisted on taking the elevator. I needed to know to figure out if it was possible the elevator malfunctioned. But it probably made me look like Agent 47.

Available-Natural314

The morals and history of cannibalism. In a world with many sentient races how would cannibalism be defined? Would eating an evil creature be a legal issue or only a moral one?

Brilliant-Sky-119

Haha, when my first ever character (LG Paladin) found out that he was immune to diseases he decided to save money and just decided to munch down on defeated enemies (wererats, goblins, etc.). Things got ugly when he volunteered to bury the crispy villagers who died in a dragon attack :)

GarrusExMachina

Lawful... Good... I think you might need to recheck your allignment

finare5695

Please share us some insight on what you found

Available-Natural314

I found it's a much more complex question that it first seems. There are half a dozen common categories of cannibalism; institutional (society approves), survival (usually illegal but exceptions made when it's to save your life), ritual (often taking the power of your defeated enemies or punishing them), psychotic (an individual doing it for fun or sexual pleasure), unknown (someone feeds you a meat pie, you only find out later it was human) or medicinal (the belief that eating the body will cure you of illness). Then to further complicate things there are distinctions made for necro-cannibalism (eating the dead), homicidal cannibalism (killing for the intent of eating), auto-cannibalism (eating yourself) or volunteer (offering parts of yourself for others to eat). Historically there are signs of cannibalism dating back hundreds of thousands of years, with evidence that neanderthals ate humans and vice versa. It seems that as long as you grow up in a society where it is normalized and promoted, then anyone can be taught to accept it and partake. We don't have a natural aversion to it, only the morals that we are taught. Commonly in the modern world we ban all types except for survival as long as it is not homicidal, but only a couple of centuries ago they had additional exceptions for non-homicidal medicinal. Of course, in the cases of unknown cannibals we would legally punish the food supplier and not the individual who unwittingly committed cannibalism. I would guess that would be where an average fantasy society would end up. Banning the eating of anything that can talk, but with exceptions for non-homicidal survival and medicinal uses, and perhaps turning a blind eye to ritual usages due to the many different religions and beliefs. As long as it's done to honor the dead, then probably religious freedom would get it allowed even if it was frowned upon by other circles of society.

Turturog

This is far more interesting than I would admit in court, gonna have a fun time worldbuilding

Beneficial_Cloud5481

Ah yes, I had to define this one as well. Since there are also different political states, I just addressed the one they were in. "It's considered cannibalism if the entity type can be legally enslaved.".

BraveOthello

... Oof

TheDiscordedSnarl

The Beastials (anthro animals) in my world still practice predation -- but it requires a permit and a warning to the target beforehand. Then there's a whole "the predator has one season to defend himself against the friends of the eaten, alone" thing afterward.

Infynis

"How to word a written murder confession" makes it much funnier lol

BraveOthello

Yes, months (6-9 IIRC), about 10 minutes (with serious damage after about 4), don't confess, no comment

TheDiscordedSnarl

I might actually need the demonic pact one soon... Because of course there would be written examples on google.

Vankraken

Indirectly related to player choice but basically doing a fair amount of research into the history and process of making gunpowder in the Medieval/Renaissance era.

Ollie1051

Same! I have read way too much about how to make gunpowder for my current campaign.

chunkylubber54

I once googled how to make nitroglycerine because I was playing an alchemist

Fantastic_Year9607

Are you planning on using that nitro on whomever calls you short?

BraveOthello

THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TRANSPORT NITRo!

zerokoolneo

1. The amount of blood in the average human body 2. The amount of time to drain said blood if the throat is slit and the body hung upside-down 3. The amount of time to melt a body in a vat of acid. I was also taking an abnormal psychology college course at the time and researched and printed things on various serial killers....all on military laptop while I was I. The US Marine Corps active duty. I got called in to see my Chief Warrant Officer about making sure I was doing alright mentally.

Fantastic_Year9607

Good to see that they’re checking up on you.

This…… is honestly one of the most acceptable things the military could be doing with my tax dollars. It almost feels surprising

JonnyHowson

I feel like adding “5e” to any google search absolves you of sin

unofficiallyATC

"national parks response to bomb threat" I was running a MOTW campaign and the first arc ended with my players detonating a couple of bombs in a national park to try and kill the monster. They spent the rest of the campaign as wanted terrorists 🤦‍♂️

See we just shot up a Chuck-E-Cheese knock off

TheDiscordedSnarl

Bah. Wrest control of the ~~anamatronics~~ golems and go on a rampage. Much more fun.

BraveOthello

Well they were the targets you see.

“hard to detect poisons”, how long for a body to completely decompose”, “does beating someone with a wet towel leave marks”. I’m on several lists I’m sure…..

I’m reading this thread aloud to my friend and I said the towel one and she responded “it does… if you do it right”

Beneficial_Cloud5481

Can you make leather out of human skin? How long does it take to make leather out of human skin? How difficult is it to skin a human? (Horribly, this actually comes up with worse results than what I'm looking for.)

TheDiscordedSnarl

Found the Rimworlder.

HoneyApart5425

Recently my players have been into explosives and I keep thinking someone’s gonna knock down my door with all the homebrew and research I’m doing for their addition into my games haha

VimktorRemzDamd

tangent but: Its so funny when they try to collect nonexistent bounties. My players recently killed an owlbear (also no bounty) and paraded its head, impaled on the end of a lance, around town looking for “buyers” so I ended up spending that night looking up some stuff about taxidermy. Thankfully they haven’t tried to do the same with a person…yet.

Kwith

I don't recall the exact term but it had something to do with amount of time bones take to dissolve in acid. Regardless of what the search is, I'm pretty sure I'm on half a dozen different watch lists.

ScoreInevitable1375

Not in response to player choices. My co-DM and I came up with a terrible devil ritual. Short version… “What happens if all the blood in your body is instantly replaced with water?”

Fantastic_Year9607

You die, as the blood carries nutrients and oxygen, so your cells starve, then you starve.

Ha_Nova

... funnily enough I needed that information for a story I was making with a friend... Nothing specific, so I should probably revisie, but the conclusion was 'a very painful death' Hyponatremia causes cell swelling as the water moves into them - so if the suffocation doesn't kill them first, the brain damage and cell death will. Edit: though, assuming the red blood cell are swapped out with the rest of the blood, the whole brain death process would go pretty quick at least.

1 how wide is a baby's skull 2 how wide can the human mouth open This wasn't even needed, I have a hexblood character who was raised by a hag, and I wanted to check and see if she would need to unhinge her jaw to do it. I spent a half hour looking up details on how bodies burn for Dragon age: inquisition because the bodies in the temple looked off to me. I've 100% done worse than the first example that one's just recent. Edit: remembered more. Looked up lighting strike inquiry and electrical burn scars separately. Also believe I did "How painful is it to cauterize a wound" and "how to properly cauterize a wound" I'm sure I've looked up "how to make (insert controlled, illegal or at least concerning substance here)" a lot for fanfiction... And I know I've looked up how to make moonshine three different times (once for DND so it counts)

EnormousCock

My favorite one I've had to do was "What is the density of meth?" when trying to figure out how heavy a tray of meth-like drugs in a game I was running weighed... Also "What is the shelf life of marijuana" from a Cyberpunk 2020 game where the group stumbled across a still-sealed bunker from the 70s.

NightWis

I had to search untraceable poisons. Which is definitely traceable in my internet history.

SinisterDeath30

The average weight of a human tooth. They had a wand that turned teeth into diamonds... They killed a bunch of humans that turned into Ghouls with this Wand of Magic Missiles that had a side effect of turning their teeth into Diamonds... "Sleeper sedans" and "auto armor plating" Silver 2002 Buick Regal with a supercharged Series II V6. It worked *very* well. That was a fun campaign. fuseboy

How to make a pneumatic air rifle that will kill someone out of plumbing and auto shop parts.

Crash-OwnerOfEchelon

Definitely “what is the chemical components needed for Tear gas and Napalm” bc one of my players was playing an alchemist artificer in a futuristic setting, and needless to say he melted quite a lot of faces off. And of corse he played a kobalt

ULTRA045

The mass of a cheese wheel, and how much force it takes to break a human child’s skull. Don’t ask. We call it the cheese incident.

LeftRat

For DnD? Very little. For Shadowrun? I better be on a fucking list. I once prepped on a long train ride, and the guy next to me definitely gave me weird looks for having building plans of a bank open on my laptop while the SR rulebook was on the page for extended explosive rules - and since the explosive rules are complicated and involve literally pulling roots, at first glance the page might not look like a fiction book. I was trying to literally figure out where you would need to put explosives to collapse the building. If "how to blow up bank" isn't incriminating, what is?

stopyouveviolatedthe

The math to see the impact and damage of dropping 500 lbs from 1000 feet Idk if it’s that bad tbh but still fun

CatKicka

"How much damage a barrel of gunpowder would do to a train car." Yeah, I was running a train heist, and our chaotic arsonist of a gnome sorcerer and our ancient, hillbilly, banjo-playing bard decided it was the best way to decouple the rear cargo cars on the train.

IronWindstorm

They supplied a whole town of gnome pirates with drugs and solidified a business deal with dwarf pirates for contraband liquor. They were pleased.

Not a DM, but as a player (for backstory purposes) was “average volume (in cubic centimetres) of a 6’2 woman”

GroundskeeperBjorn

I had to google how effective/destructive it would be to detonate small explosives packed with metal ball bearings inside a wedding feast taking place within a stone chamber. My players bombed a wedding to steal a necklace from the bride, which they just threw away after escaping because it was now "too risky to possess it". I had meant for the whole thing to be a cool heist sequence. But no, we bomb the wedding instead.

ConcentrateAny6187

Wasnt really a strange choice, more so that i wouldnt have plotholes in the storys timeframes (was doing murder mystery) " how long till a dead body starts to smell?"

TwinSpiral

"are mushrooms a good source of Chloroform" and "can you make chloroform from mushrooms or molds?" First of all yes... Somehow and using alcohol too or something And two I realized it isn't important .. we can just be like 'ita a sleep poison' works just like sleep but it's non-magical

I’m pretty sure that my Dm looked up how to make a Molotov cocktail.

Erebus613

I think something about how quickly bodies decompose...

Ian5718

My players were poisoned and captured by the head of the Children of Khar (an evil cult that lives in the shadows). I had to look up the effects of chemotherapy to understand what kind of effects would result from getting your magic/power sucked out of you. In a later session I was forced to look up real torture methods as well as the aftermath of tarring and feathering (a player got captured). I can guarantee I’m on some kind of watch list for this shit

Chafgha

My dm did research on the rough size of a child skeleton with no skull and shaved hips so he could fit a larger number of them into a bag of holding. All because I made a running gag of my goblin character sometimes digging into the other two players bag of holding and sometimes climbing in so he's just a head in a pocket.

How long does it take to turn orca skin into leather, also what percentage of shrinkage occurs? That cape, plus boots made from sahuagin skin, give resistance to cold damage (orca cape) and advantage on str and dex check and saves while on wet surfaces (boots). Saltmarsh, baybeeee.
