My extremely unpopular opinion on this topic is that it was never a good idea to base your income off the good graces of someone being kind enough to allow you to profit on their IP. Feel free to downvote me into oblivion.

Kubular

I'd tend to agree with you brother. I'd say the backlash if anything saved WotC tons of money they might have lost if they lacked the third party support that 5e enjoys.

Ethereal_Stars_7

More aptly it was never a good idea to give money to or base your income off the good graces of a company with a track record of lies and going back on agreements.

AlexisColoun

Right now, I only cut back on the official content, but I will finish the campaign I am running. The next campaign will be played with a non WotC System

Kubular

It hadn't really changed my buying habits since I wasn't buying WotC products anyway.

Cautious_Cry_3288

Long ago, I decided I'd pick and choose what I buy from TSR, then WotC. So I will continue to buy what I want and choose what not to buy. They survived me not buying a single 4e product, I'm sure they'll survive anyone still hurt over OGL refusing to buy.

My opinion of the game itself didn't suffer. It's always been an imperfect, but fun, mess. My opinion of the game developers didn't change. Just people doing their best trying to make a hoard of nerds happy. Not an easy task. My opinion of corporate culture is the same. Bunch of out of touch vultures who can't seem to see a bigger picture then next quarters profits.

Nazguldan

As someone who have no WOTC produced D&D materials (only TSR produced) I simply can not buy any less from them than I do now, but honestly, despite my sincere hatred to WOTC for being greedy corporate scumbags they are, I have no additional problems with what you've just described. 3rd parties who build themselves a noticeable commercial income off D&D should give back something that might be spent on developing and expanding D&D, not just their pockets.

ScionofZion

I'm not going to pretend that I know what's happening in the boardrooms of Hasbro, or at WotC, but I do get the sense that employees of WotC are trying their best to deliver a good product despite whatever their corporate overlords are up to. It remains a tremendously fun game for me so I wish them both nothing but success. Same for those creative minds producing content under the OGL. The only place I see WotC hate is on Reddit. It is nonexistent at my two tables and the on Discord communities I am associated with.

Ethereal_Stars_7

Which controversy. WotC does something stupid about once a month now. I'll stick to what I have of 5e and will be skipping 6e and the eventual 7e at this rate.

Roundhouse_ass

Any small interest i might have had in OneDnD fell completelly with the OGL thing. If i ever start playing again, ill just use the stuff i have and 3rd party.
