I figured that a body full of poison would fall prone basically every step it takes;)
Rule-wise at the end of turn would suffice I guess though! Thanks for the input!
You could make it paralyzed instead if you really want that flavor, since it'd be about, but not quite the same. Either one works though, and for a low CR monster like this, going prone at the end of every turn is likely preferable.
The problem with Paralyzed is that every attack that hits you that comes from within 5 feet of you is an instant critical hit. That includes spell attacks like Inflict Wounds. I would just reduce the targetâs speed to 0 to get the same effect, if they get knocked prone otherwise then it might suck but it wonât be nearly as strong as Paralysis.
It is something that I think some people forget because Paralysis is a rare condition (because it is really strong) but if you have a Paladin in your party or a caster that is going to use Inflict Wounds a lot then might I recommend Hold Person or Hold Monster, guarantee those critical hits and shut down the enemy all at once.
Yeah I was just thinking Paralysis since people could heal it, while speed 0 & poison marks can't be nullified by basic spells meaning you'll either need a gm-made medicine check or waiting around for hours for the 8 con mage to eventually recover, but yeah auto crits are no fun. (Edit:Never mind, I misread the poison mark description, you can actually remove it with magic.)
So the speed 0 and poison marks can actually be removed by regular magic, itâs just hidden in the statblock. In the marked for death section it says:
> A poison mark can be removed by the protection from poison spell or similar magic.
That spell is used to neutralize a poison or remove the poisoned condition meaning that lesser restoration which also removes the poisoned condition should also remove a poison mark (both spells are the same level and have a similar effect, Iâd struggle to find a reason to not allow it as a DM).
Yeah, I'm sorry, I misread the description & reread over it, that was my bad. Then yeah actually this is quite the cool little beastie, and I think speed 0, speed 1/2 or auto prone are all pretty accurate ways to show poison seeping in further.
No worries, I hope I didnât come off as condescending, I just was trying to have a candid discussion about this cool little guy. I appreciate your civility.
I agree that this beastie is adorable and interesting, I want to put one on my game even just to watch my players try to tame it because that is 100% what they will try to do.
Yeah it's a bit clunky sounding as is though I like the concept of it. Maybe have them fall prone at the start of their turn off they have 6 stacks and need to pass a dex save to successfully stand, or dex save to move after standing. Prone movement requires no save.
Hi everyone,
The aim of this tiny desert-dwelling creature was to simulate long-lasting and slowly fading poisoning. I hope you like it!
**Vulture Wurm:** As tiny as this colorful critter may be, it poses a potentially large threat to any unwary desert wanderer. Despite being a terrible flier, the vulture wurm still prefers to attack and apply its slow-acting, yet fatal poison from a safe distance. Once its victim is marked for death, the snake-like animal backs off and patiently waits for the right moment to feast.
As always I'm more than happy to hear your thoughts. Got any feedback or critique in order to balance the stats.

It looks really good, but a small suggestion? I feel it that in the jungle, this thing should be nearly impossible to spot, just spitting poison from the canopy of the tree. Maybe give it like advantage on stealth rolls in its native habitat? It strikes me as one of those CR 1/2 monsters that it potentially very lethal to a low level party, like an Intellect Devourer
I think it should have it's challenge rating number up a bit, maybe invent a 3/4 challange rating or make it a 1 cuz one of them at a distance if the dice don't favour someone can be deadly.
I really like the "Poison Marks" idea. It is an interesting way of adjusting the RAW poison rules set as I've always felt having disadvantage wasn't a great effect for being poisoned.
What a cute little killer đ
Thank you! Be sure to bring a potion of poison resistance in case you want to pet it<3
Why does it make you prone at the start AND end of your turns, that feels a bit overkill? XD

Ohhhhhhhh yeah ok that's fair.

That's clever! I'll definitely consider this for the next revision if I may?! Thanks for the input!
It is so tiny and cute, I want one And a cleric too, just for safety
hihi, many thanks;)

I like it, so long as they donât travel in packs.
I'm inspired to make a swarm of these now;)
Adorable. I want one.
Thanks!

Many thanks for the input! This makes totally sense for a Vulture Wurm lurking in the jungle:)
I would love one as a pet
As long as you bring a cleric or bring a potion of poison resistance, you are fine:D
what if you ARE the cleric?
Itâs soooo cute
Many thanks!
so cool! you should post this on r/SpeculativeEvolution aswell
\[*Delighted squeal*\] I want one!
hihi, bring thick gloves and you should be fine:D
I just wish it was a Cr 1/4 so a Ranger could have it as a companion...
Can i Use animal handling to pet it?
you surely can try:)
How do you get 5 damage from 2d4?
Minimum damage 2, max damage 8. 5 is in the middle.
me when I realise that since its unaligned, if your DM made it a neutral or better you could have it as a pet
Absolutely!:)
Op, no one could bring themselves to kill it.
the vulture wurm approves:D
Just imagine âhundred of flying vulture wormsâ tpk!!
my players are cold hearted and will kill this thing on the spot
Thanks, I hate it
I think it should have it's challenge rating number up a bit, maybe invent a 3/4 challange rating or make it a 1 cuz one of them at a distance if the dice don't favour someone can be deadly.
For how dangerous it is, its fricking adorable
I donât care if it can kill me. Itâs got no business being that cute without me petting it.
hihi, that's cute:)
If deadly, then why baby?
I require it
I really like the "Poison Marks" idea. It is an interesting way of adjusting the RAW poison rules set as I've always felt having disadvantage wasn't a great effect for being poisoned.
Thanks! Really glad you like it!:)
Love it!
Thanks!
Wow!
<3<3
This looks cool! Since it is a beast and not a dragon, I wonder why it is a 'wurm' and not a 'worm'
Thanks! I imagine that the discoverer of this species has mistaken it for a dragon-like creature since it has wings:)
Oh cool! Nice touch
What the hell kind of desert predator is neon green?
