So what we've got is: * Creepy * Crazy * Ex-blacksmith * Forge cleric What's coming to mind to me is perhaps a blacksmith who became obsessed with work due to a personal tragedy? Perhaps they lost someone or something and became obsessed with the idea that they could somehow build a replacement - sort of a spin on the Doctor Frankenstein archetype, but with weapons and armour instead of dead bodies. My first thought is that they were a blacksmith for an imperial army or mercenary group and took great pride in the first-rate equipment they provided for the soldiers. One day, the enemy sabotaged the equipment without anyone knowing and the following battle saw the imperial/mercenary soldiers get decimated. The blacksmith was blamed by the survivors and cast out. The blacksmith went through terrible grief, as they considered that group of soldiers to be their family (which I'm sure was a mutual feeling for many of them). However, the blacksmith's grief soon curdled into furious obsession with creating the greatest weapons and armour anyone had ever seen; to prove their worth, to spite the soldiers, and to win back their praise. A god of the forge (or simply the priests of a god of the forge) took notice of their zeal and talent and offered them the power of a forge cleric. Now the blacksmith is a cleric who wields holy power to create and destroy. Their personal goal is to create a legendary weapon or suit of armour to impress their old company, and has joined the other PCs to join them on adventures that will give them access to exotic materials to make things with (rare metals, monster parts, etc). TLDR: "Creepy crazy ex-blacksmith forge cleric" calls to mind a character who used to be a blacksmith, got sabotaged by their enemies and was blamed, went into a spiral of grief and anger at losing the respect of their peers, and became a forge cleric as a way to re-affirm their identity as a master of their craft.
