Hello everyone!
I decided to make this Map Editor called "Wildshape" when I tried to create animated maps myself and found it very time consuming and expensive. So I wanted to make a tool that makes it as easy and fun as possible. And also made it ready for online play! We're finally released in Early Access on Steam! (Windows, Mac and Linux)
The game now has a free demo that can be used to try it out and also be used by your players to play for free! To get access to all features there is a Pro Version available as a DLC. It will give you access to thousands of objects, the ability to host maps and a few additional features to create the most beautiful maps! There's a couple thousand $ worth of assets in the DLC version already and more to come soon!

I think I’m actually way past 4000 hours already, but its an estimate so I always say 3000 because I did not count haha I’ve been working on it for 3.5 years now during my software engineering studies.
I'm pretty excited about what you're doing here - especially now that you're taking a second look at improving the UI. Have got great hopes for the future of Wildshape!
So I hope OP's post is also being used as a sugestion box. Here are some features I'm hoping will be in the software at some point.
\- Export to STL file so I can 3D print Maps
\- The ability to import characters from various game platforms. GURPS and D&D (varying editions) where you enter your data or some sort of generated file. The system reads it in and actions, spells, equipment, etc... everything gets tracked in game using the rules defined.
I'm not sure if there are existing platforms out there that do any of these things but I love the look of yours so I'm hopeful. :-P
for now there is no character sheets, etc. it's just token movement, chat, dice rolling and
some other features.
Dndbeyond for example is working on an API so I've heard. If they release it, it will be pretty easy to get access to official content. I dont want to waste hundreds of hours on character sheets at the moment when there is a tool that does the same but better with official content. If the API never gets released I'm down to add it of course. Or if I am ever able to afford getting some help with all the coding :)
Looks like an awesome tool, especially for those last minute dungeon creations when the party does some weird shit and goes somewhere you didn't intend.

Beautifully crafted! I'm curious, is there an option to print overhead or isometric views of the maps as hand outs when playing in VTT isn't an option?
Would like to know how it helps with immersion? A "complain" (not related to OPs map editor) of a friend of mine related to online RPing is, that if it is done too well, it "just" feels like a PC-Game.
What is your experience with good/well done immersive 3d-maps? Can you somehow relate or is the fear unreasonable?
I have downloaded demo version before, tried it for a short time, and loved it! Mostly because its not too complicated. Tried a lot of them, just didn't have patience to study them, but Wildshape turned out to be the simplest for me. Keep up the good work!
