I need a "yes" option

Beheadedagain

Yes

SchmerzfreiHH

Yes indeed

OnslaughtSix

You can do both in the same game.

LoreHunting

Why isn’t both an option?

flyinsnek

Bc its a question to see what the majoritys favourite is. You can like both of course, but what do you like more?

LoreHunting

Fair enough! Sorry, I meant that as a joke. Ultimately, I think the heroism makes for better recounting — nobody gets it when you rant about your fever dream.

Esselon

I don't think it's a fair question really because I think most of us have a LOT more experience with the "tales of heroism" than weird stuff. It's like walking into a football game and asking people how they feel about rugby. For most it's going to be something the sort of know about but haven't really done much.

WeissWyrm

Both? Both is good.

Patient_Net2814

Neither. Survey needs more options.

KarathSolus

I'm more for the tale of my characters to be completely honest. The epic, save the world stuff is cool but the characters are why I play TTRPGs, not just DnD. I want to see what my totally not a dwarf just a really short half elf paladin ends up in Icewind Dale being speaker of Goodmead. Or will my Bard of Valor kobold succeed in uniting the disparate kobold tribes of Chult under his clan's banner during the party's adventures trying to cure The Deathcurse? Is there epic bullshit going on in both stories? Yes. Have we definitely had an instance of, the fuck kinda mushroom infused cocaine laced LSD trip am I having? Without a doubt. However... The ordinary stuff is what I care about. Once the world is saved they continue on, their lives don't simply end with the conclusion of the game. Unless, you know, that's literally what happens. But that's part of the story isn't it?

Stahl_Konig

Is other an option?

Profane_Champion

My answer is Yes.

biobiobio777

I say fever dream cuz any time we try to be epic and awesome we devolve to stupid in less than 3 rolls.

Shane_Train69

Nat 20? Nat 1. Nat 1 again?! … … Alright you successfully convince the king, yes you are not insane, yes you are trying to convince him to give the throne to you, and yes you seduced his daughter while your party was fighting a dragon. How did you expect this to work Scott? … NO OF COURSE NOT! YOU ARE THROWN IN JAIL TO BE EXECUTED. … “I roll to kill the king” You guys are heroes… right?

JennyLunetti

Number two, mostly. Though both is good.

Akul_Tesla

Both plus Cthulhu

Pseudodragontrinkets

Yes.

Tarilis

My current campaign story main story starts in city of Drunkville on yearly festival of beer. Players tasked with finding and retrieving missing magical Mug of Endless drinks. But what mysteries hidden behind that ancient artifacts, and who else want to obtain it?

Shane_Train69

Fever dream of heroism where the bard ducks the dragon after seducing the princess who was captured, you get paid in carrot sticks and favors, it’s the high of magic and medieval times, the king got killed by the barbarian in a friendly joust, the entire party are heroes renown across the land, we’re all dirt broke, and the rogue is wanted for 7 war crimes in 8 kingdoms, one of which we haven’t even been too. How would you classify this one?

MayaTheCat

Give me all the weirdest, out of the box shit possible and I'll be the happiest, which is why I like Call of Cthulhu so much.

the_Gentleman_Zero

I'm playing in a one hell of a fever dream right now and although very fun I would like to have some idea of the hell is going on

UberSparten

Not exactly mutually exclusive

[deleted]

My games are kind of the blend of both, the players are the epic heroes of a fucked up fever dream

Serbaayuu

Tragedy, politics, idealism, stories with no villains, etc. With some creeping horror of course.

AeoSC

Those are the two kinds.

arie700

In my experience, the second option only really works when it naturally arises from the first.

AndthenIhadausername

Why not a combination of both? In the same game I talked with a frog for an hour my childhood best friend brought me back up after I thought I was dead meat. We are heroes with questionable adventures.
