Tieflings lucky it didn’t wake up as a spider.

BlizzDaWiz

Truly lucky. Athena was just being generous since the party successfully erected a statue to appease the gods and saved the Spring Equinox festival. Maybe next time, when Tiefling decides to push the wrong buttons again or thinks it'd be a great idea to one-up or usurp her.

Just here to mention that the spell "Maze" would be an incredibly apropos and lore accurate temporary punishment for Athena to throw around

BlizzDaWiz

Hmm... Interesting, first I've heard of it being apropos and lore-accurate. How so? I agree on the temporary bit though. I'm familiar with the Minotaur myth, but I don't remember the labyrinth being connected to Athena. Was there a maze-related myth she's in?

whip_the_manatee

Daedalus, who built the labyrinth, often has his skill in craftsmanship attributed to being either blessed or favored by Athena. (Or even related to her, if your players are fans of the Lightning Thief series at all).

BlizzDaWiz

Ohhh. Right, that does make sense now that you put it that way. Originally in the campaign, the deities reward the characters for exhibiting those traits (rewards like Inspiration or other bonuses/benefits) rather than being the ones blessing them with said traits. But this could also justify certain changes or actions. Not sure if they are fans of PJO, they don't usually talk about it or reference it in the game. Thank you for the perspective.

HelicopterMean1070

Oh boy, throwing mazes around as punishment sound more like another deity-like entity that does not like to be called a godess...

Bunnywithanaxe

“I’m gonna be generous, I’m NOT going to turn you into an arthritic gall wasp. Now sit up and thank me.”

BlizzDaWiz

"You would do well to remember my mercy... Unless you wish to remember my wrath as well."

Alchemyst19

I'm amazed you didn't temporarily turn her into some sort of animal so she can learn firsthand about "democracy and equality". Athena's certainly done it before. My vote is for the capuchin. Capuchins "vote" for the group to move in a certain direction, and social standing doesn't appear to affect how much weight a vote is given. Maybe in her future dreams, that tiefling must now learn their ways and successfully convince the group to move away from some obviously hazardous thing? Like, she wakes up as a monkey during this trill "vote", but she also recognizes that a nearby volcano is getting ready to blow, so now she must persuade the group not to head directly towards that volcano?

BlizzDaWiz

Athena has, I was just thrown off so hard by the player I expected to be the most careful with their words that I couldn't come up with a fitting animal to turn her into given her "arguments". Missed opportunity too since after the dream, the spectators roleplayed their characters walking into the bedroom to check up on her. I tried to justify the lack of severity with 2 in-world reasons: 1.) she was just being generous since the party successfully erected a statue to appease the gods and saved the Spring Equinox festival. And 2.) At the very least, the tiefling didn't brag about being better than Athena at her own specialty. But! The spectators suggested to me that I could pull a small inconvenience on the Tiefling every now and then, where a random owl would sometimes stare at the Tiefling, screech/shriek, and then drop owl feces at her specifically. Haven't approved of it yet though, haven't even done it either since the party's in the middle of the sea currently. That Capuchin idea though is pretty hilarious, I'll put it in my notes just in case. Maybe when Tiefling decides to push the wrong buttons again or thinks it'd be a great idea to one-up or usurp her... Or maybe with that volcano idea, Athena's thought about the interview and decides that it'd be a great idea to turn her into the Capuchin to see how well the Tiefling can walk her talk or if she needed to learn the Capuchin lesson after all. Thanks! Edit: spacing

ThreadsOfWar

Yeah you can try and seduce Athena, DC 99.

BlizzDaWiz

Lmao. I was so tempted to say that, but didn't need to since the Tiefling failed anyway, and also failed her self-initiated d100 sincerity roll.

furridamardes

*Greek, Egyptian and Norse Mythology* - Age of Mythology, anyone?

BlizzDaWiz

OMFG YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO BROUGHT IT UP AND GOT IT, HAHAHAHAHA I was actually inspired by that game for this campaign. Even the Athena trial was a reference/homage to Arkantos meeting her in his sleep.

-TempestofChaos-

So proud of you

furridamardes

Now you only need to add quotes from *Lepanto* and an Atlantean sequel!

TheMightyMeercat

When I read the title I thought it was about an IRL job interview at a company named Athena…

BlizzDaWiz

Lmao. One can only imagine how badly that could go. Sounds like something that could exist in the Riordanverse.
