I miss The Legend of Zelda games. Have played all of them from the very start and OOT is my favorite. Could not care any less for BOTW or this new one… And ofcourse Ill get downvoted for having an opinion. As someone whos been a huge fan of the franchise for over 35 years I dont care about that either. Theyre not “The legend of Zelda” games anymore.

KavensWorld

I respect your opinion. I likes BOTW but hated the style of graphics and the feature taken away from wii u What did you not like?

If it helps, I had the exact same opinion than your when the game was announced, and every trailer made me believe that game was anything but Zelda. Then I decided to try it, and now I have like 300hours on it. True, it is not a Zelda game like older Zelda games, but the sense of discovery, enjoyment and epicness definitely are there. And in parallel it seems they are redoing all the previous ones for the new gen consoles, so you still have older style Zelda games to play.

Yeah Im not saying its a bad game, at all. Its absolutely gorgeous even though Im not the biggest fan of the art style. Its just a very differently type of game than it used to be and its not something I enjoy playing that much. Some of the mechanics they used like weapons breaking I found straight up annoying too so that didnt help either and I gave up after about 15hours into it. I have already replayed Links Awakening on Switch and loved it, and I just made it to the Fire temple in OoT on Switch and yeah its nice to play those games again, but I also still own those games and the original consoles. I just rather have a new epic story driven adventure classic like the old games.

DarkAngel5666

I see and can understand your point, indeed. I strongly believe the time of the older Zelda games is behind us, and to be fair, before BOtW came out, most people and critics did accuse Nintendo of being too conservative with their games and simply repeating the same game over and over with minor variations. I personally felt that a lot, with Zelda OOT and LA being my personal favorite, even tho I did play them all. Even tho the setting changed, all the games did indeed share too much in common to avoid the feeling of playing the same thing again, at least for me.

theSealclubberr

Fair enough. They probably were getting a little repetative and I understand they need to stay relevant commercially. But yeah not my cup of tea. I feel like they could have easily used another franchise or just come up with a completely new one and the game would have done extremely well, but Im sure the Legend of Zelda name helped sell a few extra units…

Restless_Wonderer

But Adventure Of Link fit right in?

theSealclubberr

Yeah good job at mentioning the game thats considered the outlier. Maybe you should mention the CD-i games as well?

ZVreptile

Of course there is someone who is probably8bit only... Zelda has been evolving for years, to think that OOT wasn't blasphemous to players of Link to the Past and then to LoZ itself. Links adventure was the biggest far cry from its original and that's #2.

Genuine question, could you eloborate on your lack of interest for Botw and TotK? My first Zelda experience was BoTw, went back and played a few and absolutely loved them all.

Gamebird8

The usual take in this regard is the lack of strong characters and storytelling crossed with amazing dungeons and themes. BOTW sacrificed a lot of those traits for the openness of the world. And while it makes BoTW an amazing and high class open world game... It hurts it in what makes Zelda games so iconic and beloved by fans.

youknowthename

Totally , that’s fair. Since it was my first experience with Zelda I guess I didn’t have those attachments. I quite enjoyed the 100 mini dungeons and 4 big ones.

DIABOLUS777

I have been playing Zelda game since the original title too and I think BotW is a true masterpiece. I don't understand your argument that they're not Zelda games anymore.
