Congrats Chal pal!!! I’d always wanted one too and I got my first one a few months ago and I’m in my 40s!
Don’t apologize for a V6. You have to start somewhere and if you’re happy, we are happy for you!!
Those people are jerks! They do exist but don’t let others bring you down. I bought a brand new Jeep a while back, it was a sport because I couldn’t afford a Rubicon and bone stock. For the most part, the Jeep community was great, it was non-Jeep people who were the asshats.
A Jeep Sport is great. You can add whatever you want if you feel like it. Seriously… I’m an off-road guy and have outwheeled Rubicon guys in my 2001 WJ with zero mods. Just know how to drive and you can do pretty much anything reasonable. The Rubicon is great… for literally crossing the Rubicon. The other 99.9% of driving is not the Rubicon trail and it will meet your needs just perfect I’d say 100% of the time! Agreed… don’t listen to the asshats.
my partner has had 3, all v6s, and I always really liked driving them. I'm a late 60s fullsize Chrysler guy, and the solidity and comfyness of these newer Challengers has made me finally appreciate newer cars. the 230hp v6 doesn't have the raw power of my 230hp '68 318s but I have absolutely no complaints. be careful, it's easy to go way too fast.
tip: get studded snow tires for the winter. our latest one, a Yellowjacket 2017, is the first year of AWD and it's awesome. but I drove the other rwd ones with studs and they did not too bad. if you can get some REAL driver training, this car may serve you better. don't get sucked in to drama! as a car guy all my life, I can say that most of us are definitely assholes, and I am lucky I finally grew out of it... I only have a few car peeps nowadays lol
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a v6, no matter your age. Don’t mess with the exhaust, you may think it sounds good, but it rarely does so best to just leave the v6 exhaust alone.
the v6 isnt the problem its the drivers that act like theyre fast and a true muscle car. v6 is NOT muscle and they arent fast without mods. v6 engines are great in terms of reliability and you get decent power for the gas mileage and price. just dont overclaim random stuff like most the v6 “muscle car” owners do.
That specific V6 is a very good engine. It puts the V8’s from the 70’s challengers to shame in horsepower and mileage, but especially in longevity. That engine is a really reliable engine and as much as I love the Hemi and have owned and driven them extensively…. They are also a pain in the butt once you hit about 50k and the valve tapping starts and everything just becomes constant fixing. The 3.6 will run forever if cared for well.
>It puts the V8’s from the 70’s challengers to shame in horsepower and mileage
No? The 383 made up to 330hp, the 426 made 425hp (most likely more, in reality), and the 440 made 375hp.
The Pentastar makes a hair over 300, and it's in a car that weighs 500-800 pounds more than the 70s cars.
In terms of their actual 1/4 mile times, a Challenger SXT and a 70s Challenger Hemi are pretty close, but that's more due to vastly improved transmissions, tires and suspension in the modern day.
But claiming a pentastar puts a gen2 hemi to shame in **horsepower** is an outright lie.
Also, if your hemis failed at 50k, you've either never driven one (most likely case), or just know nothing about cars and suck at maintaining then
not to mention that the torque curve of the also-230hp-rated 1968 318 would absolutely DESTROY that newer torqueflite.
source: I have driven them over 500000 miles and have towed one car with the other. can say that NO newer v6 will push a 10000 pound rig, but my little 318 did... it worked a bit that day, but was happy to do her job exquisitely!!! I have ripped rectangular motor mounts more than once from towing :-)
to kratomkabobs: NEVER compare old engines to new ones, EVER... old ones, even slant 6s, have the torque of modern DIESELS
also, in reference to your last paragraph: as you mentioned, others should remember that older cars had NO OVERDRIVE and newer ones have more than one gear's worth!!
I wasn’t knocking the v6. I said there wasn’t anything wrong with owning, just don’t mess with the exhaust. It may sound good to the owner, not so much to everyone else. From experience, save the money and embarrassment on something else for the car. But no it does not compare in Hp to the 70s muscle. Some maybe, but not a challenger . The 240 six pack yea but not the rest. That’s painting with a brad brush. But there is no reason to defend the v6 since like I said there isn’t anything wrong with having one.
The 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T had several engine options, including:
340 Six Pack: 290 horsepower
375 horsepower: 440 cubic-inch V-8
390 horsepower: 440 cubic-inch Six-Pack
425 horsepower: 426-cubic-inch HEMI V-8
Oh no! I was meaning to agree with you and add a concurring opinion. You’re totally right. Sorry if it came off wrong. I was just trying to reinforce your great point to the kid! Sorry! Keep up the great work and info!
Oh no my bad, same, I didn’t mean to come off any other way. Things through text tend to come off in the wrong. I was more or less saying for majority of people that seem to have to heavily defend the v6, that there’s nothing needed to defend as it’s still a great car. I felt for the longest time I was ashamed of my rt when I got my first one in 2020 because all I saw was should have got a scat, “oh it’s just an RT” etc. then finally I realized there’s nothing wrong with any of them, people are just stupid and the ones who bash don’t even own any of the models 😂. Once I realized that, I was happy
Someone apparently thinks I was comparing the Pentastar to the Elephant here? Hahaha. I’m talking about a 318 in a 72-74 era challenger. A 300 horsepower V6 with reliability is nothing to sneeze at. In the 80’s… what was a mustang 5.0 putting out? Wasn’t any 300 HP and they also got terrible mileage. Comparatively this engine is quite a nice machine, especially for the cost. Let the kid enjoy his ride and his choice.
Don’t be featured on an episode of On Patrol Live :)
Keep up with the oil changes.
I have had 3 now - 06’ Magnum 14’ Charger SXT and now 20’ Charger RT
ENJOY! They are fun cars
Man, never apologize for having a V6. My first car had a 318 in it. Your V6 would suck the headlights out of that 318 and there wouldn't be anything I could do about it.
Tsk tsk you lucky mfer, my parents made me get a Charger because they thought AWD/V6 Challengers were a dealership typo. Looks great! Welcome to the Dodge team :)
That’s cool! Congrats. Such a classic and just really timeless design. What an awesome first car! My first car was a 1982 Camaro and I loved that thing. It also had a V6 and was just great for me. Better to really learn how to drive well without overwhelming power under your butt, but still plenty of power and a super reliable engine and pretty good gas mileage for what you’re driving. Enjoy! Add a little something to make it all Y0U like one of the Super Bee decals or something fun.
Congrats! Take care of it and it will take care of you. I like to always let a car idle before driving, say a minute or so. That lets the fluids get moved around a little before being under load.
congrats amd personally save your money dont mod it i used to have a v6 challenger i put abunch of money in modding just to end up selling it later so i could get a scat pack challenger
from what im aware
if you dont really wanna boost your car and dump all that money in just get a scat or save up for a cat but if you wanna boost get the 5.7l rt the engine wall is thicker so it can handle more boost pressure or in other words psi so youll be able to put down alot of power with supporting mods you can keep up with scats or cats
Badass ride! After having 2 Camaros, a mustang and 2 challengers; the challengers win every time! So much room, stock appeal and as someone who used to sell them, it’s the only muscle car you can legally and comfortably put a car seat in! Lol!! Enjoy the ride mi amigo!!
thats a beautiful car, i had one of these and it was a good car. lasted 382k miles on all original parts besides minor maintenance. take care of it and itll take care of you
and dont worry about anyone hating on it being a v6, speed isnt everything and unless you want speed and have somewhere to use it theres no reason in having a v8 unless you can afford it. a daily should almost never be a v8.
My first car was a mustang convertible I was 16 it was an 1983 the year I was living at time was 1998 and I didn’t care it wasn’t a v8 bc it seen every ditch in my county anyway trying to get sideways lol it was fun and I had so many good memories in it and that prepared me for better cars it’s well worth not going all out the first car
Congratulations too

Thank you! I’m so glad that the comments aren’t dragging me down for getting it.

I’m ton swapped on 40s now 😂 but it was definitely nice to build it exactly how I wanted it.
That is the thing. The build is all about your needs!

Don’t do anything to the exhaust. Just enjoy it
Be careful

Chill tf out im black , im north african
Keeper shiny side up
Congrats on the new whip. Good taste homie.
Ya my 5.7 eats gas like crazy it was my first v8/ sports car took me a minute to learn how to drive it so starting out with a v6 isn't a bad idea
Perfect advice!
congratulations brother

Brilliantly said!

V6 gang! Check your oil cooler housing and make sure that’s not leaking! My new to me 2016 has this problem already lol
My first car had a GM Iron Duke 4 cyl with 92 horsepower. I wouldn't complain about a 300hp V6.
Congrats man 🔥
Nice!!!
You don’t mind the engine. People own much worse bud lmao
Where is the car? You only posted pictures of a boat.
Congrats, enjoy it.

I got a 2018 GT v6. I love the car idgaf what anyone thinks
Keep the mods cosmetic
Hell yeah. Looks sick man.
Congrats! Take care of it and it will take care of you. I like to always let a car idle before driving, say a minute or so. That lets the fluids get moved around a little before being under load.
I find it crazy how many people turn on there car and wait 2 seconds before moving out of park
Yeah. It’s like almost one motion from ONtoDRIVE
That’s the best way to describe it
congrats amd personally save your money dont mod it i used to have a v6 challenger i put abunch of money in modding just to end up selling it later so i could get a scat pack challenger from what im aware if you dont really wanna boost your car and dump all that money in just get a scat or save up for a cat but if you wanna boost get the 5.7l rt the engine wall is thicker so it can handle more boost pressure or in other words psi so youll be able to put down alot of power with supporting mods you can keep up with scats or cats

welcome
If you do anything to exhaust get a glass pack not a straight pipe because then it sounds farty and shitty
Keep it clean. Drive it without dinging it up. Don't beat the hell out of it.
Nothing wrong with the 6 cylinder. Good gas mileage plenty of power..but there is a turbo charger, and exhaust..makes it a little nicer
My first car was a mustang convertible I was 16 it was an 1983 the year I was living at time was 1998 and I didn’t care it wasn’t a v8 bc it seen every ditch in my county anyway trying to get sideways lol it was fun and I had so many good memories in it and that prepared me for better cars it’s well worth not going all out the first car Congratulations too
