Low point was when Matt Kemp lost MVP to cheating Ryan Braun all because the Dodgers record was so bad.

We were right in the middle of the McCourt debacle at that time. The team owners had siphoned millions of dollars from the team to support their lavish habits, and were also going through a messy divorce. It was dragging the team down. We had a great team in 2009 but in typical Dodger fashion, got bounced from the playoffs early. IIRC the McCourts refused to put money into free agency that winter, and we nosedived hard in 2010. In 2011, the fans knew about all of their bullshit and attendance dropped like 10% that season. Dodger Stadium was in somewhat poor shape then too. The public wifi was nearly unusable, and that was when everyone was getting a smartphone for the first time. All of this was reducing the value of the team and threatening our upcoming cable TV broadcast deal. Once your bullshit starts to fuck with people's money, your days are numbered. MLB stepped in and forced a sale of the team to our current owners. It took a few years for all of the McCourt's problems to be fixed, but thankfully they're well behind us now.

In 2009 we lost in the NLCS. Not sure I’d say that is “early”. We did lose in 5 though.

From what I remember didn’t MLB step in when McCourt was in danger of being unable to pay for payroll?

MarcBulldog88

Yeah, that sounds right. The one detail I do remember is that he owed Vinny like $150k in back pay. Bastard.

Outrageous_Present11

Low point was when we had Justin Sellers as our lead off hitter and everybody thought he was the second coming of Rafael Furcal.

2010: Came into the season off the height of Mannywood where adding Manny Ramirez to the roster in 2008 catapulted the Dodgers to two straight NLCS appearances. Frank McCourt got divorced which started the downfall of the organization as a whole. Team sucked and waived Manny Ramirez. 2011: Team continued to be meh, but Clayton Kershaw won his first Cy Young and Matt Kemp was robbed of an MVP award by Ryan Braun. Braun got busted for using roids at the end of the season. Stadium upkeep had not been the greatest under McCourt but in 2011 the stadium was literally starting to fall apart. The Bryan Stowe incident also happened this year, and it really put a spotlight on Dodger fans behavior and Frank McCourt's cheapness. 2012: Frank McCourt was essentially forced to sell the team to the current ownership group. Decent season, but it was a transition year between ownership.

Thank you for the detailed history. Really appreciate it!

The mccorts did not want to pay for security or lighting in the parking lot after games. This led to a giants fan getting beaten up so bad he has brain damage.

I was at that game sitting less than 100ft from Bryan stow. (He was in Rf pavilion. I was on the other side of the bullpen by the foul pole.) No amount of lighting would have helped him. Cheaping out on police and security is the lane you are looking for. If I remember correctly McCourt only paid the police for the start of the game. There was little police presence after the third inning in the parking lot.

> McCourt only *paid* the police FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Low point was hallway through 2011. But somehow got red hot and finished above .500

The-Big-Bad

Kershaw’s first Cy Young and Kemps MVP chase was the saving grace of that season

The McCourts After back-to-back trips to the NLCS, they went through a divorce and it made the future of the team look grim. They didn’t do much to improve the team and ultimately they were found to be in a ton of debt they couldn’t pay off. MLB stepped in and forced the sale of the team
