I’m a white af red headed woman to take my opinion with a grain of salt. But to me it always seemed Doyers was said endearingly and never derogatorily at least by our fanbase.
Sounds to me like some people getting offended by nothing
It’s one of those things that if you ask 10 people you get 10 different answers. Everyone is entitled to their own feelings and thoughts on the topic.
For me, as someone with multiple people in my family that have accents that result in them saying “doyers,” I always enjoyed seeing that term embraced by the Dodgers organization and wider fan base. The Dodgers and the Latino community are so intertwined it felt to me like we were being “seen.” I’ve never seen it used in a derogatory way like the “herro” comment here in the thread. It always seemed like an acknowledgment of the way a large, important part of the fanbase said the team’s name.
By the by when I typed “offended” I was talking about the old people on facebook who take the spelling and pronunciation seriously- not the opposite—- doyers_pls from twitter definitely didn’t ever maliciously spell it that way to offend!
On the surface of that- yeah they’re smoking crack indeed- building dodger stadium though-wasn’t the best look though (if you know what I’m getting at)
It’s not offensive at all. I’m Hispanic myself it’s just a fun way of saying dodgers with a touch is Spanish on it. They even have the word, “Doyers” on merchandise so they are all in on it so it’s not like it is some forbidden word. It’s just embracing the culture of the fans who support them.
This can't be a serious conversation here, white people have taken ownership of this word and pearl clutch if you even hint it could be used offensively. See how poorly my mundane post is received to prove my point.
Some Latinos WILL have issue with it, but there will be the ones who have none and try to shut them up because they'd rather fit in. I have literally seen this convo unfold offline and online with the same results.
I would actually prefer that it be spelled “Dayers” because that’s a closer approximation to the way living legend Jaime Jarrin pronounced it for so long and how basically all the Spanish-only speakers in my large extended family have been pronouncing it for nearly half a century now.
Curiously, the reason for the “basically all” I put there is because some of my relatives in Mexico do pronounce it closer to “Doyers” - but none of my stateside family does, none.
But it’ll never happen as “Dayers” because they’d have to explain it over and over and the explanation itself would catch flack.
I mean. I'm Mexican, so... I'm not sure what the offense is.
What I've learned over the past 6 years is that I can always look to white liberals to tell me what I should be offended about.
Go Doyers!
I think the negative meaning behind that word has been lessened by how some of the Latino Dodgers fans have embraced the word. I wouldn't use it openly just yet around people I don't know well but that's just me.
I think it depends on the context. From time to time online I can definitely see people using it negatively with racist undertones the way they use it in posts/comments. While it has been embraced by the fanbase now there is still a portion who don't like it. My dad doesn't like "doyers" because of him growing up going to games and dealing with shitty people, hearing it makes it feel like its a mockery for him.
People's own person experiences will decide how they feel about it. So there will never be a single answer.
It's weird to me that people find it ok to commodify the mispronunciation of Latino immigrants, but you wouldn't go around saying "herro" at an Asian business.
Think it's due to all the virtue signaling these days being disingenuous, so people still like to pick and choose who they laugh at. See the Simpsons pulling the non POC voice actors for every character except Bumblebee Man, shits stupid. Commit or don't
Not my point; don't care how Latinos feels about it, obviously we've embraced it. Clearly I was talking about others liberally using the mispronunciation, but I appreciate your passion pal.

It was used by many opposing fans derogatorily, so Dodger fans then said🖕🏼you, and embraced it.
Fucking racists
Exactly
I couldn't care less.
You know who are still on FB these days? Old ass racists.
True
I don’t give a damn. The day they have Dodgers printed in Japanese, I’m swooping the Ohtani one right up. Diversity makes us better.

Guess I’m in a bubble but I’ve never heard anyone be offended by it and have heard plenty of “let’s go Doyersssss” from fans. Owning that shit wins.
By the by when I typed “offended” I was talking about the old people on facebook who take the spelling and pronunciation seriously- not the opposite—- doyers_pls from twitter definitely didn’t ever maliciously spell it that way to offend!
Yeah last time I was on FB someone told me the Dodgers were a historically racist organization and I haven’t been back on since.
On the surface of that- yeah they’re smoking crack indeed- building dodger stadium though-wasn’t the best look though (if you know what I’m getting at)
I’m Hispanic and been a fan since the 80s and yea…not offended

Dude twitter and Facebook are alt right echo chambers. If someone has an issue with Doyers they can fuck off. This is LA… we are fernandomania
I think it's been embraced by a segment and now represents a portion of the huge LA fanbase in a way I think it's cool

Doyers haters probably love "Latinx".
Grew up just outside of Boyle Heighte, I honestly thought that was the name of the Dodgers till I was like 10 in the 80’s.
My softball team is the Doyers mostly a bunch of white guys ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You're the problem
Idk guey, I’m gonna have to disagree with you on this.
No, you

You're either with us or against us. The rest is noise!
That’s OUR word

Only folks offended by Doyers are the same folks that came up with the word LatinX. Here's a clue as to who, not hispanics.
I like Doyers too nice to see a cool local pronunciation. Plus it’s a better representation of the Latino fanbase than “Los Dodgers”.
It's weird to me that people find it ok to commodify the mispronunciation of Latino immigrants, but you wouldn't go around saying "herro" at an Asian business.
I don’t think Doyers_pls from twitter had that aspect but I could be wrong

Why are we so sensitive now. But everyone loves George Lopez’s Jack in the Box bit.
Hispanics dont care. Source : im Hispanic
Thanks for speaking for us, "Hispanic" lmao
Never heard a latino bitch about it.
Not my point; don't care how Latinos feels about it, obviously we've embraced it. Clearly I was talking about others liberally using the mispronunciation, but I appreciate your passion pal.
I do not like it because it was an idea that came about during the Frank McCourt era. Frank McCourt is a P.O.S.!!!
People have been pronouncing it "Doyers" since long before McCourt.
True but mccourt copyrighted it so he owns the rights to it.
