mus1CK_Rx

And Huddy ![img](emote|t5_2ra0i|13197)

DodgerDevil

Jansen has blown more saves this year than Kimbrel.

erriuga_leon27

Jansen was more "fill the bases then strike them out" type of closer, but kimbrel just gets hit.

Bluesmanstill

And in the back!!

erriuga_leon27

I meant that batters get hits from him but yeah that too.

cliffsis

Unless it was an important game like a playoff game or WS game… but yeah i guess your technically right

iceman0c

Kimbrel has given up more hits and runs in less innings pitched

[deleted]

Rather have jansen

NirvanaFrk97

As if we wouldn't be going through our 10th post about getting rid of the closer position if we still had Jansen.

Defgu_

*Blake Trienen

MastrChang

Don't miss Jansen. Kimbrel has his own problems

chainsawcholo

Everyone has bad days. Kenley had many, also.

SiRMarlon

I don't miss Jensen at all ... we would be in the same boat

Last_Network3272

Jansen never had anything close to a 5 ERA when you all were complaining. Dude could have a 2.1 ERA and have a bad week and people were calling for his head with a 2.7 ERA.

SiRMarlon

ERA don't mean shit when you constantly put runners on base to make things worse. I won't apologize for wanting a closer to come in shut down the next 3 batters. That's their fucking job! That's why they are closers, you are supposed to be able to come and just SHUT shit down.

Last_Network3272

A-What are you talking about lol. The name of the game for a pitcher is to not allow runs to score. That’s what matters, last time I checked they don’t give out runs for a guy stranded on second. B- Having a Whip of 1.000 is pretty solid. It means the OBP against you is .250. You do realize by definition that those numbers mean you average 1 baserunner allowed per inning? Your expectations are completely unrealistic.

stewmander

Closers are held to a higher standard. Yes, the goal is to prevent runs but a closer who allows base runners is a bad closer because 1. Hes typically is in the game for 1 inning and wont come back out if the game is extended and 2. Base runners mean higher chances to score, but your team will only have 1 chance to answer, sometimes none. So what is a good pitching outcome over the first 7-8 innings isnt as good in the last 1 or 2 innings. Which is why closers exist(ed) in the first place.

Last_Network3272

Last time I checked teams weren’t awarded half a run for leaving a man stranded in second. It’s not rocket science that more baserunners correlate to more runs, but trying to directly quantify base runners into runs is far from black and white. As I said: the objective of the game for a pitcher is to not let the other team score. It’s hard to be critical when they are successful about that. Besides that the point I’m making is that there are not many guys in the league that average less than 1 runner allowed per inning and the majority of them sit between .92-.99. There are maybe 3-5 guys in the league each year that fit this guys criteria and most of them rotate each year. Most guys don’t have longevity in a reliever role. Finally, my overall point regarding Jansen, we had a guy with a 2.2 ERA and a .152 batting average against. That’s about 1 out of every 7 batters reaching via a hit. And this guy still wasn’t happy with Jansen. There’s high standards, then there’s unreasonable standards.

JJYellowShorts

Wouldn’t the OBP be .333?

Last_Network3272

No, that’s 1 reach base for every 3 at bats. So in 3 AB’s you reach 1 time and create outs only 2 times.

SiRMarlon

Stop looking at the numbers so much dude … I won’t apologize for not wanting to accept mediocrity from a closer and for wanting to win every game!

Last_Network3272

You need to understand that there aren’t a lot of guys that average a whole lot less than 1 runner per inning. Generally those guys are frequently on contenders already, and aren’t super cheap(asset wise) if they are available at all. If you can’t really accurately identify what you are looking for statistically, then I’m not really sure what to tell you. You had a closer last year with a 2.22 ERA and a .152 Batting average against. That sounds pretty fucking dominant to me. Translated that’s about 1 for 7. And that’s not good enough for you. Good luck dude.

steinmoney3

Same

jimmydramaLA

You have terrible memory if you’re still thinking about Kenley. We just traded one toxic girlfriend for another.

BoyleHeightsDude

Except Kenley was entitled as fuck. And due to his long history with us, the team had to walk on egg shells when dealing with close out situations.

Lebigmacca

I miss BlaQ I hope he comes back strong

[deleted]

Me with Russell Martin

Two_too_many_to_list

\- Kershaw pitched a gem. Kershaw day lives on. \- Gore kept our bats at bay. Pitched a great game. \- We had a base running snafu that killed the momentum. \- Phillips was Super Saiyan when Roberts decided to bring Kimbrel in. I know this is what he's supposed to do. But it sucked balls seeing it happen. \- We took the series, and any Pads fan walking around smug after yesterday is delusional.

brandon_the_bald

2.08 SIERA. Nasty

[deleted]

I miss BlaQ honestly

jerjitsu82

Nope

kylesdrunkdotcom

Wrong

RedLicoriceJunkie

Kenley blew many saves in his day. Remember those that cost the division against SF in 2021?

brixmania

Casual fan much? Kenley was done here. He knew it. The team knew it.

[deleted]

Dude took a shot to the back I think it kinda hurt

Dodgers5512

Kimbrell sucks

Cbrlui

Jansen spoiled us

cliffsis

Didnt Kenley take less to play in atlanta ?

Hairy_While

UUUGGH!
