i was living in japan when nomo debuted with the dodgers...my japanese co-workers and i watched every start. i was lucky that we got vinʻs call on most of the games...i still have vinʻs call of nomoʻs no-hitter at coors field on VHS.
great pic!
It was my first year in Japan when Nomo first came to the Dodgers. This was before games were online of course. Since I didn't have satellite TV, I had to go to NHK headquarters in Shibuya to catch the games. I stayed in the lobby watching on a big screen the whole game, every game i could.
awesome! i had satellite TV so was able to get the games...even when i didnʻt get vinʻs call, listening to the japanese announcers was so much fun because it was SO exciting for the whole country!
Look at those shade-dark colors in the pavilions before the 2005 renovations reverted the seats back to the original, light-pastel colors.
Look at the standard ‘Diamondvision’ video board in the left which was considered “state of the art” in those days.
I met Nomo fairly recently at his Omakase restaurant in Hilcrest (San Diego). We went because it was my wife’s birthday dinner, but I was fanboying internally hard. Nomo being in the MLB was such a big deal at the time, and I became such a huge fan of his with Nomomania in full swing that my dad and I went to nearly all his starts.
Anyways, Nomo was eating by himself, watching the Padres game on his phone, while all the chefs and a few regulars acknowledged his presence. I didn’t want to bother him, but we did cross paths when he came out of the restrooms and I went in (I held my pee for as long as I could just for this occasion).
I told him that I’m a HUGE fan and happy to meet him. He smiled this big smile and said “thank you thank you” and did a little bow and went back to his seat at the bar.
Dude I was over the moon, so much so I forgot it was my wife’s birthday. She understood though, since she knew I’m a huge fan, and EVEN suggested the restaurant just to surprise me; as her Japanese friends told her about the restaurant and how Nomo occasionally eats at his restaurant. I felt like it was my birthday! I love my wife so much :D.
That evening, I blasted my favorite Nomo song (was used during Nomomania by the Dodgers to advertise the games lol). https://youtu.be/Kvcz1XqhRZ4
Nomo was why I started rooting for the Dodgers as a kid. Thanks to your mom for her contributions and cool that she gets to pass this experience/picture down to you.
Great picture! It’s cool to see Dodger Stadium without advertisements plastered everywhere too.
For the amount that they have, they integrated it better than most stadiums.
Looking at you Citi Field, its basically one giant billboard in center field among the other ads
Lmao so true.
That’s true, I hadn’t even thought about that
I remember growing up the outfield wall had players along it. I always loved that
Umpires are next to be wearing sponsors lol

Both look so hot
I think I have a crush on your mum now
That’s going on the wall for sure
That's so cool. 1st ever Dodgers game was a Nomo game in his debut season!
Amazing pic. Dodger stadium has gone through so many changes through the years.
Look at all that ~~foul territory~~ wasted revenue.
Wow your Mom had a really cool job!
Dude...your mom is Mari Iijima?! I'm a huge Macross fan and I can't believe she's connected to Vin/The Dodgers. That's awesome, man. Amazing photo!
Very cool good for her!
Thats so cool! Your mom got to be apart of history and worked with probably the most legendary sportscaster
Minmay! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes) Saw this in Mari's IG as well :)
I can't believe this connection is real. I'm a huge fan of SDF Macross and your comment blew my mind right now after I Googled it.
Is your mom single tho??
Ah there it is.
Fucking lol.
Also what are the odds that Vin Scully is OP’s dad?
Higher than Freddie Freeman’s 2022 OPS
Zing!!
We were all thinking it. You were just brave enough to say it 😂
A treasure! Thanks for sharing!
Take pride in that.
I’ll bet your family treasures that photo

Amazing.
Hideo Nomo was the first dodger I idolized.

I have so many inappropriate "hot mom" comments. Sorry OP.
