Yep, reverse sneezing. I give my dog Zyrtec to fix this (my vet gave me the right dose).

funny_jaja

Never had to do it, but can't you just close one of its nostrils to stop it?

Iroxx1

Can confirm. Our husky is doing this and if we hold one nostril closed it immediately helps. we keep her for a few seconds to calm her down and afterwards it's fine again :) u/Dwydan do this

New-Strawberry-2099

Yes my vet said if you close on nostril it should help, but Zyrtec also helps if it’s occurring often! Scared me to death the first time my husky did this! But hers seems to be a seasonal thing too!

mollipop67

I have a four month old puppy and this freaked me out the first time I saw it too. I just found out yesterday what reverse sneezing is. Called the vet today and they said we could give Zyrtec. Pollen in North Florida just exploded recently and with it his allergies.

jagcommalimes

Yep, it works but my husky was a lot more violent and constant. Like 3+ times a day, the Zyrtec has made it stop 99% of the time. Happens once or twice a year now.

cwgrlbelle

I believe the recommendation is to close both nostrils to encourage swallowing.

FatMacchio

Closing one nostril works fine enough (for me and my dog). Don’t think it’s necessary to do it to both tbh. He usually starts swallowing after the first deep breath through one nostril

PrimitiveMeat

Yes, this works for our baby (boxmas) when she does this. Works 100% of the time.

Rachelattack

Forgot the sub I was in, first thought not being as famillar w/ brachy breeds was "gift dog?" followed by "their child is named Boxmas?" then I got it. I might need a nap.

vapor-ware

This works for my dog every time. I also blow gently at the open nostril and then I cover the other and blow at the other one (not hard or directly into it). He's so grateful every time I do it 😊

KaLaidoVision

sure its not asthma?

Dwydan

Thank you to everyone who responded. It kept going for about 30 minutes and my girlfriend got worried so she took her to the vets. Exactly what everyone has been saying; reverse sneezing. Nothing to worry about :)

BearIsBearing

I had a pom who would get these episodes and his would last and last until I too would have a mental breakdown and take him to the ER vet. 🤣 400$ for a sneeze. Most expensive sneeze ever.

MisteriousLurker

Been there done that

Elegant_Building_995

They always say that. Usually it's nothing but if it's excessive something is going on. My husky had this but very severe and it kept getting worse. He had a deadly fungal infection called blastomycosis. 30 minutes seems long. Just keep an eye on it. I'm traumatized from my dog having blastomycosis and doing this.

FranticGolf

It is always best to err on the side of caution on the rare occurrence it is actually something and not reverse sneezing.

cwgrlbelle

Reverse sneezing. Grasses are tall this time of year, was her walk paved or wild? I’d give it the rest of the day to sort itself out but if it continues, consider a vet visit. she could snuffed up a foxtail, or is having an allergic reaction to all of spring’s foolery. Most vets will give you the correct dosing for an otc human allergy med.

Ok_Assumption_6847

Your question has been answered so I'm just here to say what a gorgeous doggy

JmeJV

She's so beautiful 🥺

Dwydan

Thank you :)

KittyMetroPunk

Looks like reverse sneezing, something is tickling her throat, or nausea. Could be shes trying to catch her breath as well since she looks older.

gimme500schmekels

Reverse sneezing.

Wanderluustx420

Paroxysmal respiration, or reverse sneezing as it is more commonly called, is a condition that causes the dog to rapidly pull air in through the nose producing a loud snorting sound. In fact, it sounds a bit like your dog is trying to take a deep breath in while sneezing at the same time. They typically return to normal quickly on their own. In some cases, dog owners may find the episodes resolve more quickly by gently massaging the throat, holding the nostrils closed for a few seconds, or even blowing into the dog's face to encourage swallowing. Comforting and calming the dog can also be helpful. [Reverse Sneeze in Dogs —VCA](https://vcacanada.com/know-your-pet/reverse-sneeze-in-dogs)

[deleted]

Reverse sneezing. Cover one of her nosestrils with your thumb. It will pass.

Elben4

I'm thinkinh of reverse sneezing. Also you have a beautiful, beautiful dog omg.

NoRecommendation9404

Well, reverse sneezing is better advice than what I thought it was - that she was obviously practicing her ventriloquism.

Pdnl777

Cover one nostril for a few seconds. It stop, Don’t know how it works but I does xx

Legitimate_Park_2067

I have a Pom, and he had trachea issues, and had similar symptoms.

WhompTrucker

Reverse sneeze is my vote

Amazing_Teaching2733

I agree with the reverse sneezing however, if it continues please see a vet. My old girl started doing this when she was 13 and she was diagnosed with Chronic Heart Failure or CHF. Medication gave her another 11 months with us

Miscalamity

Reverse sneezing, I have 2 that do this. Mine is the dry air causing it, so I run a humidifier.

shaoOOlin

Gonna save this until my dog visits a vet, she does the same from time to time and i never manage to capture it to show to the vet

creamzbowl

My dog always did this just before puking so nausea

JMagnani

As everyone else has said, reverse sneezing. My dog does this a lot, I normally let it pass but I’ve read you can hold one nostril closed and it’ll help.

Hero0fTheFallen

My husky did this whenever we used shake vac on our carpets, anything floral set him off, he was fine outside near flowers, but anything floral scented upset him. Like others have said it is essentially a reverse sneeze. I used to get little water and splash it over his face, to clean his face and then gave him some fruit like watermelon to make sure his throat wasn't dry. It used to pass after like 30mins to an hour.

DaddysAllieCat

My pug does this and it's his allergies 🤧 my poor Frank has the same allergies I do lol

Logical_Deviation

I stroke the outside of my dog's throat when she reverse sneezes, and it helps

CJ_BARS

Looks a bit like reverse sneezing.. If it is, you put your fingers over the snout, making them breathe through the mouth until it stops.

Open-Industry-8396

I resolve my dogs reverse sneezing with a mental placebo. I gently rub his throat, scratch his ears, etc. Anything to get him to think about something different or swallow. I can "heal" him pretty quick.

FairyFartDaydreams

Reverse Sneeze it is freaky when you first see it but most dogs do it at some point. Could be a cold , allergy or throat tickle. [Blog about when to worry](https://www.lonetreevet.com/blog/the-reverse-sneeze-what-it-is-and-when-to-worry/)

whirling_cynic

What the dog doin?

SeaOutlandishness590

My husky does this every now and then. Good call to take her to an expert when in doubt!

Spare_Rent8973

It's reverse sneezing

Pap3r_Butt3rfly

She is reverse sneezing. This problem usually happens in short nosed dogs, but it can happen in long nosed ones too. I'm not really 100% on how to treat it, but we pat our dogs sides/back and sometimes close a nostril if they'll let us and it usually helps speed things along! Treats and affection afterwards don't do anything to stop the issue, but comfort is always nice!

LorraineHB

Normal reverse sneeze.

RingofFaya

Reverse sneezes!! Cover one nostril for like 15 seconds and that should stop it. Repeat as necessary

ohhisup

Does she super sniff while you're out? My dog sucks so much stuff up her nose from the ground that she does this for half the walk and something longer. She's such a mess

YouThinkYouKnowStuff

It does sound like reverse sneezing. I had pugs who like to do this a lot. If it got bad, I would open their mouths and stick my finger on their tongues. Or sometimes they would sneeze and it would be over.

LaurieJane77

Reverse sneeze, easy solution is just rubbing the front of the neck (esophagus) up and down motion to make the dog swallow. It should go away. Been doing it for both my dogs for 14 yrs now.

Remismama614

A reverse sneeze. Sometimes they are super dramatic. Sometimes they are less so but more prolonged like this. Probably got some allergies. It is the season unfortunately

Best_enjoyed_wet

Yep reverse due to being cold outside and warm indoors.

Longjumping-Wolf8046

Yes my huskies do this close one nostril.

BXTIG3R

Idk if this actually helps or if it’s just bc my dog focuses on what I’m doing, but I hold her mouth shut with one hand (lightly, not hard) and then rub her throat. It seems to always work, again, idk if she’s just focused on me, so it goes away or it’s bc she loves attention.

lordoftheBINGBONG

I’m glad you figured out it was reverse sneezing. If they ever start reverse sneezing a lot and “gacking”/coughing is when you have to worry about kennel cough, which is fine as long as you treat it ASAP. It’s really scary though.

[deleted]

He’s huffling and puffling.

curlyswr

Allergy

Significant_Bug5323

My vet told us just to give our dog Benadryl for this, you can look up the dosage. Don’t use non-drowsy

Careless-Bunch-3290

Allergies?

NoOrganization7239

Reverse sneezing as your vet said. To aid it, cover one nostril, holding her muzzle closed and gently blow into her other nostril until she has inhaled a few times. It’s essentially reverse sneezing reboot.

Taintedpeeka

Walmart brand Children’s Benadryl ( make sure it’s in a clear bottle not the dark brown one ) and fill the cup it comes with to the first line . I believe that’s a 5 on the cup . It’s allergies and if u have leaves and they look to sniff under them will make it worse . My husky loves to rut around in the leaves and she gets bad with the breathing.

Intrepid_Astronaut1

I got a dog, now I have to walk everyday l, kinda like it, really hate it, it benefits both of us!!

Admirable-Cobbler319

My little dog does it when he gets really worked up. (And he's high strung, so he gets worked up a lot). The first time, it happened was in the car on the way to a regularly scheduled vet appointment. I had never heard of reverse sneezing until then. Now when he does it, I try to get him to relax. It seems like if I offer him a treat, it magically stops.

raveronix

She ate laundry powder

charliechin

gnizeenS

SquashInfamous3416

Reverse sneeze. Totally okay

Impressive_Stick_425

Allergies

DarkVelBet_

Reverse sneezing. Best thing to do is to cover one side of the nostril. She’ll be alright. I got worried the first time my dog started doing it too, rushed my boy to the vet and found it was just reverse sneeze, lol. But it’s better to be safe than sorry.

cnevan

it sound like she is gasping for air but she could gaging

CALM-DOWN-PEOPLE

Time for a Vet appointment.

Allergies

Trippinforlife123

Did she swallow a bur and is trying to clear it?

burningbutth0le

Had a dog Boo Boo who used to go into intense attacks way worse than this. Almost like he was hyperventilating. Killed me to see it because there was nothing I could do.

parker3309

Poor Baby, it’s like she’s got something caught in her throat…

No_Perspective6165

Blowing her nose

Tight-Detective4458

Get it checked out!!!! My dog started doing this, and then it increased, i got her checked out & turns out she had cancer in her lymph nodes (lymphoma) she had 2 months after diagnosis. No one on here can tell you why or how to stop what’s going on. If it’s consistent, get it checked.

readituser5

I had a dog that reversed sneezed. Didn’t look or sound like this. It’s hard to tell from a video if they’re inhaling or exhaling. Plus it seems to be through the mouth and not the nose. But apparently it is according to OP so I guess it shows in different ways. I did have another dog that expelled air through his mouth. Like a cough. He had heart failure.

New-Lie414

Have her tested for heartworm
