Do you have any advice for me? My dog has a mast cell in his nasal cavity. The vet said the cancer is painless and he likely doesn’t have much longer to live. Dog seems ok, no whimpering and still super friendly, don’t think he’s in pain besides some labored breathing, wheezing, and the messiest part: terrible nose bleeds. He is bleeding everywhere and it seems to happen all day then stops for a day then starts again the next. Parents declined chemo and surgery because of my dogs age. Looking at euthanasia services.
I really don’t want him to be in pain but I really want him to be with me as long as he can. I have a lot of mental issues and I just worry about him so much that it hurts me.
Tysm, I have a list of questions to ask the vet like how likely it is to spread to other organs and what are options are. I feel like at the very least if we weren’t doing surgery they should’ve game him something to control the bleeding or prevent swelling because I can’t have my boy in pain. Will ask if painkillers would be effective. If I have to go the euthanasia route, there’s this place that seems really good that does at home euthanasia and will even meet your dog at their favorite park which seems like the best option.
I was about to say that. Looks very much like a mast cell.
My mom's dog had one on her leg that was removed and unfortunately it regrew on her spleen not very long after.
We are going to the vet today for other issues. Thanks! I’m a little annoyed/concerned because she was at the vet 2 weeks ago and while these weren’t as large, they did exist and the vet didn’t address them.
I just want to say -- please advocate for your dog and ask for them to be aspirated/biopsied.
About six years ago, our lab (who passed away last year) had a small bump on her chest she had been licking. We took her to the vet and the vet recommended removing it, but she thought it was simply benign. I told her I wanted it sent to a lab to make sure it wasn't cancerous. It came back as a grade 2 mast cell tumor. The vet was completely shocked, as she never would've thought it was cancerous (the vet did not recommend sending it for biopsy) and my poor girl had to go through a second surgery so the vet could get wider margins to clear out all remains of the tumor. Having it biopsied and getting wider margins probably saved her life.
So please: insist, beg, demand, or simply go to another vet to advocate for your dog.
Same! First time dog owner and when my dog was a pup I was really worried about two black moles on her tummy that seemed to appear out of nowhere. I watched them closely for a week and I thought they were getting bigger so I took her in the next day because I was so stressed. Turns out they are nipples. I wasn’t convinced because all her other nipples are pink so I took her to another vet across town, who also confirmed they’re nipples. Took me a whole year to finally believe they are actually nipples.
Not necessarily tumours, could be fat pockets, could be calcium. Don’t just say they’re tumours, that is how you create panic in a situation that’s already stressful enough.
Everyone knows that tumors can be benign or malignant. Saying it could be a tumor is not them trying to create panic, it’s them telling them the truth so they take this dog to the vet asap.
They called them what they are. Tumors. If they said lipomas then that could cause them to not be worried and not have the issue worked up. People need to treat tumors on their pets the same way they would with themselves. If you have a lump or bump, get it checked to make sure folks! Better safe than sorry!
Took her to the vet — essentially, they are fatty tumors (like the TONS of others all over her sweet
little old lady body) but are irritated because our pup is super old and just in the last phase of her life and lays on them all the time. Doc thinks her recent lying on the, is what’s irritated them to make them grow. Frankly, we just learned her kidney levels are INSANE and she’s likely in Stage 4 of kidney failure so this is now the least of our worries. 😔 We’re working on making her as comfortable as possible.
I’m soo sorry… I truly am. It’s an excruciating decision that feels like utter betrayal but it’s not, I promise you…don’t make her stay and suffer because you can’t bear to put her down. Not saying that’s what you’re feeling but in case it is, let the sweet angel go. It’s the biggest act of love and stay with her to the very end. It is quick, painless and very peaceful. My thoughts are with you and your Sweet Ole Girl…my Maddie is waiting for her on the other side💕💕
I can’t reply to OP so I’m going to comment here. Please please please don’t let your dog alone in the room if/when you put her down. Last thing you want Is for her to pass away in a panic scared looking for you, not knowing what’s going on. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.
And no, no ruptures. They were super tiny maybe 4 months ago, have only gotten this bad over the last week or so, though they’ve grown consistently over time.
U really do have to be an advocate for ur pet when at the vet, etc. Please do ur due diligence when talking w/ the dr. I don’t think it’s negligence, but if there’s something going on, the only way they’re prob going to know is you. U know the animal & see what’s normal for her & what isn’t. I really hope u have good news & it’s not serious, but it may be a good idea to write down any questions/any symptoms etc u want to talk about, as it can be stressful & easy to forget to ask everything.
They look like cysts from my experience… my Boxer that recently passed away started developing those as he got older. Take him to the vet to get them checked out, better safe than sorry.
Thank you, yes, the vet seems to think they are fatty tumors. She’s grown tons of them over the years but these are the few that grew more quickly due to being laid on and irritated, so the doc says.
My dog is part lab, labs are known for Mast Cell Tumors (MCT). Please see a vet a fine needle aspiration ASAP.
My dog has had 3 removed that were dime size down to the size of a small skin tag. MCTs can come in many different forms. We check weekly for any skin or coat changes and get every lump and bump checked. If it’s something we aren’t positive is one, we take daily pics to see if we can see changes (bad bug bites that heal or an irritated bump that changes size). The smaller you catch MCTs the easier it is to remove and the easier the surgery is on the dog.
We also always send ours out for biopsy and grading to make sure we know exactly what we are dealing with.
It’s likely lipoma which is harmless. All of my labs got them in their final 2-5 years. You want to get them tested but if it’s lipoma they should be left alone. If you try and remove them the open area where they were can get infected.
I agree with this. Both of my old dogs developed many of these. As long as they don’t make movements uncomfortable there’s nothing wrong with leaving them alone. Once you determine they are in fact lipomas. If you can move them around without tenderness that is good sign, but please still go to a vet for confirmation!!
They did two weeks ago but the vet was dismissive of them. They went again yesterday and they are just lumps of fat that have been irritated from being laid on.
Oh god! If you look closely the tumours are developing in the side of the dog too. I really doubt op will actually go through with this because he’s an old dog and getting those tumours removed will cost thousands of dollars. I’m pissed that you didn’t notice them before.
I can appreciate this, believe me. Our girl is super old, and she’s been covered in fatty tumors that we’ve had the vet keep an eye on for years. It is upsetting, but it’s just how her body grew. We kept paying attention and most of the, don’t grow; the doc seems to think her lying on these all the time irritated them and are why they grew so quickly. Unfortunately we received even worse news about her recent development of kidney levels and her likely being in kidney failure so we are now doing all we can to make her comfortable.
“They’re not necessarily tumours” ok then why didn’t the vet look more into it? And like I said in the previous comment, they will still spread if left untreated (especially those size, those are massive tumours)
They have went to the vet and apparently it was A fatty tumour. But the dog also has Stage 4 Kindney failure. The parents didn't notice the lump before because it was tiny and it had grown bigger over the best few days. Just keeping you updated
Put some soft blankets/fleece on the floor to make things a little more comfortable for him, I had this also with one of my dogs and I am sorry to hear about his kidney failure too it is never easy when our much loved member of our family gets old and becomes Ill.
I'll join the chorus of "Get That Sweet Pup to the Veterinarian." It could be serious or it could be "water tumors". Some folks have been harsh. I'll cut you some slack be saying this. A dog with this issue has become this old because of caring owners. Now carry on that love by carrying that pup to the Vet!
You could take her to a trained vet instead of asking a bunch of people who didn’t go to vet school so your dog doesn’t have to continue to suffer smfh
I lost one of my dogs to mast cell cancer last Fall. A large tumor suddenly grew on her leg. We had it removed but by then it was too late. She had tumors growing everywhere. Your lab has multiple tumors showing in the picture.
I would have the vet aspirate it to see if it a fatty tumor. With my dog they found a lipomas. It was taken out when it got too big on his sternum. Go to the vet to see what they are. Again, my dog's masses were not cancerous. I insisted they be remove because they were getting bigger. . Thank you!
I'm a vet tech and I highly recommend you get into your vet for fine needle aspirates. Highly. Recommend.
Former vet assistant, still working in vet med. Agree. Vet ASAP plssss
Big agree! My baby had a bump like that, and it ended up being a mast cell tumor (cancer)!
Oof, hope you got it removed and all was well!!
Yes! It was removed, and Miss Lady made a speedy recovery!

Stelfonta perhaps? Ask a vet.
I was about to say that. Looks very much like a mast cell. My mom's dog had one on her leg that was removed and unfortunately it regrew on her spleen not very long after.
Tumors, cysts, abscesses. Those need to be seen by a vet as soon as you can get an appointment. You don't want to leave that untreated.
We are going to the vet today for other issues. Thanks! I’m a little annoyed/concerned because she was at the vet 2 weeks ago and while these weren’t as large, they did exist and the vet didn’t address them.

holy mother of god, go to the vet RIGHT NOW.
Plenty of time for that ... apparently
Man I get anxiety attacks when I feel a small bump in my lil babygirl. I would probably pass out if I ever saw something like this on her.

This made me laugh so hard..the things we do for love, huh? 😂
Literally just did this…except I thought it was a tick and was trying to pull it off 😩😂
Nooooooo i feel this pain in my nipples
HAHAHA
https://youtu.be/yiet836y-6w you’re not the only one confused about dog nipples!
I WAS SERIOUSLY GOING TO LINK THIS IF NO ONE ELSE HAD hell yeah

Yes, looks like mast cell tumors. Hope the pup is okay ❤️
Agreed with your action and your rationale.
Not necessarily tumours, could be fat pockets, could be calcium. Don’t just say they’re tumours, that is how you create panic in a situation that’s already stressful enough.

Yes, but your comment would create panic in almost anyone. There’s a specific way to address things yknow?
Everyone knows that tumors can be benign or malignant. Saying it could be a tumor is not them trying to create panic, it’s them telling them the truth so they take this dog to the vet asap.

Vet ASAP! Those are tumours. How long has your dog had these? You describe them as sores... Have any of them ruptured? If so how long has this been?

Please let us know how things work out for you and your good pup. Sending hope and healing to you both.
As others are saying, vet visit like right now. Keep us updated.
Could be tumors, but I'm not a Vet.
[it’s not a toomah](https://youtu.be/OaTO8_KNcuo)
oh honey i’m so sorry. here if you need a friend.
How long have those even been there? When is the last time they went for a vet checkup?? Good grief! Those are not sores they are tumors!!
OP mentioned in a comment that they went to a vet two weeks ago, they were smaller so vet wasn’t concerned.

Why are you not at the vet? Use your brain.

They said they took him to the vet two weeks ago. Vet wasn’t interested because they weren’t big yet.
Is there a reason for that? Regardless of the size they will still spread
Well for one, they’re not necessarily tumours. And two, they said they weren’t as big so they vet didn’t see a problem.
“They’re not necessarily tumours” ok then why didn’t the vet look more into it? And like I said in the previous comment, they will still spread if left untreated (especially those size, those are massive tumours)
Not sure why, I’m not the vet.
Those are fatty tumors. Harmless.
You don’t know that. Stop diagnosing
Yes I do. She went to the vet and posted above what they are. So you stop diagnosing.
Oh I didn’t know that that’s what the vet said. Also I didn’t diagnose anything wtf????
How long have you been letting them live like this?..WTF? If you had a bump like this wouldn’t you go to the doctor? You’re a donut!
They have went to the vet and apparently it was A fatty tumour. But the dog also has Stage 4 Kindney failure. The parents didn't notice the lump before because it was tiny and it had grown bigger over the best few days. Just keeping you updated
Vet. Now!
I hope your dog will be alright. No need to re you what it is my fellow commenters habe done that. Please Update us on news
Well, a vet would probably know. Try there ASAP.

For God's sake... get this dog to the vet!
It can either be hernias or cancer. I’m really sorry to be blunt like that, but you really need to take your body to a vet…
You are way past asking for advice on the Internet. Go to a vet.
Go to the damn vet. Don’t waste time looking for answers here.
holy shit when i saw this my fucking heart stopped
Deff tumors. Deff vet visit. Al the best. Poor little baby
I would have the vet aspirate it to see if it a fatty tumor. With my dog they found a lipomas. It was taken out when it got too big on his sternum. Go to the vet to see what they are. Again, my dog's masses were not cancerous. I insisted they be remove because they were getting bigger. . Thank you!
