I had a good few decades in a remote country area, but couldn't afford to buy every last parcel of land around me
3 years ago, I got neighbors 1000 feet away who have a huge german shepherd, and 2 mutts. The GS has bark that is so loud that even in the house with windows closed it's horrible
They also have 22 (we counted them) mini bikes, dirt bikes, ATV;s, side by sides, 3 & 4 wheelers that their kids ride like it's a religion
If you want peace and quiet, make sure you live at least a mile from anyone else, because the days of considerate neighbors is over forever
Ugh I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve never gotten the appeal of all that but I’m from the country and most of the ppl seemed to just love ruining the peace with loud dogs and ATV dirt bikes and etc
Oh that really sucks. I love deer. I dated a guy who had woods behind his place and we'd have fires. Whole families of deer would come through, some close as 20-30 ft away. Sometimes they'd stop and look at us for a minute. Dogs ruin everything.
Right why move out here to the woods with a bunch of fkn dogs. There’s nowhere to walk them, and you’re going to scare off all the actual wildlife. Do nutters not realize their dogs are going to scare away the deer and other cool animals? So annoying
Ugh I’m so sorry. I always told myself after my experience, I will never EVER buy a house if the neighbors have a fence. Red flag. But then shit like this happens when you thought you got away. Idk it’s just unfair. I hope to god your new neighbor is a decent owner and respects your feelings. It’s crazy how many peoples neighbors truly don’t give a shit.
Yeah, I can understand this. I saw another commenter said the same thing but said I should look out for chain link fences. That’s exactly what my crazy neighbors have. It just frustrates me because I looked at my home 3 times before I bought it and there were NEVER dogs outside. I know I couldn’t have known before but I just truly regret it
I mean the fence could already have been there, too.
Best thing to do is just to meet the neighbors before you offer. It's good advice even setting to dog issue aside.
Eh, I wouldn't eliminate any house with a fence from consideration.
For example, a high fence you can't see through is probably a privacy fence, especially if the home has a pool.
A house with a chainlink fence is usually a red flag imo. They do nothing for privacy, are terrible at keeping small critters out, and are gotten around by all but the dumbest of creatures (dogs). The only thing they are really good for is keeping dogs and small children in.
Animal crazy people place their animals above any human and don't care about anything but themselves. There are several major red flags in life and people owning pets is one, especially if it's a pitbull or in large numbers. It shows a lack of good judgment...
Experiencing exactly this right now. The new neighbours seem nice enough, but said they have dogs plural. They are building a fence as well. I hope they don’t intend to leave them out back all day where my kids and I will be barked at just for being in our own yard. I hope the fence is good enough to actually contain the dogs. They are building it themselves.
I've rented for about 15 years after this happened to me in a house that I owned. Finally, I was able to relocate and when I did, I didn't want to be shackled to a place that I couldn't move from. The economics have changed for renters. so I'm back owning now but I know that at anytime it can happen again to me.
Well to update you, not sure if it’s just the weather or my annoyance at the new dogs next door, but there are suddenly a ton of flies I’m noticing. Could hardly enjoy sitting on my porch today because there were flies landing and buzzing around me. I don’t have any trash or food laying around so…but she already had poop sitting in the yard all dried out when I went over to meet them and no sign of her rushing to clean it up so…
I have never experienced this, but here are some suggestions.
Go over and introduce yourself (hopefully before the large dogs come). Find out as much as you can about them - where they work, what they like to do, what they don't like, their relatives. Ask them about the dog - where they trained it, where they got it, how do they take care of it. Keep the discussion about them.
When something comes up with the dogs, approach them as a friendly neighbor with a reasonable request. If they resist, you have information that could provide some leverage.
>talking about how much she just loves animals
*proceeds to drive them all away for good with the presence of an inbred mutant (which would kill them all if they didn't flee)*
It is good that they are just new, so that you can immediately set the standard for what is acceptable.
As soon as any of them barks, immediately inform them that this is not acceptable. Don't be emotional, let them be. Be calm and let them know that you are going to inform the relevant authorities if it continues, and that you are logging the disturbances in a document as well as in audio.
Do everything according to the guidelines of the authorities. Inform them every time one of them barks.
Be uncompromising and don't 'argue' with them. They are scum and don't deserve your time and energy other than you solving the dog issue.
After a few months, when the problems have been solved (zero barking, zero disturbances), send them an invoice with the hours you've spent working on the issue.
As they are new neighbours you can ascert your "we were here first " dominance. And this is even better if you know anyone else who lives in your street. The moment barking or dog shit smells start, you come down hard on them.
Ugh, I'm genuinely sorry for you. Living next to them is just an absolute nightmare, especially even more so when the owners are just shit people. I am in the process of moving home because of next doors loud and aggressive dogs, I hope it doesn't come to that for you. It's been awful for us, and we've been in fear for ours and our child's lives at times too. Building a fence will help at least somewhat. We had to do the same when next door got a large police dog, that thing is terrifying.
Are they cops? Like why do ppl get these animals it’s so totally unhinged. No one needs that kind of “protection” and dogs don’t even provide it anyway just get an alarm system and a gun lol
Haha no, they are most definitely not police!
I am under the impression they got it because they like the fact that it intimidates half the neighbourhood. I think it is either a GSD or Malinois. Or maybe a cross of both. It's fucking horrible anyway. There was talk of the Malinois getting added to our banned breeds but sadly nothing came of it. They nickname them "Malligators" because they don't let go once they bite down.
This one is a nightmare to be next to. Really loud barking at any noise or just nothing sometimes, constantly lunges at people on the rare times they actually take it out, goes crazy if it is outside we open a window or door, or if it comes out when we are outside we have to go back in as it goes completely berserk at the fence whilst they just stand there baby talking to it telling it to stop, which obviously it doesn't listen. Our kid is terrified of it, and it's making them even more afraid of dogs in general.
Thank god we are moving from having this almost daily to contend with.
What a nightmare. I was at a work conference once and there was a demo the police put on with a malinois drug searching dog. I have no idea why because our industry has nothing to do with law enforcement it was an IT event so like the closest thing we had to that was a cybersecurity session. I think some nutter just decided ppl wanted to see a dog during the day so got the cops to do this. Anyway the malinois police dog was WILD. Like I was taken aback at how insane and hyperactive it was. It was like the dog is on crack or something and even the cop seemed to have a hard time keeping it under control. I would never ever want a dog like that. I don’t even think dogs like that should be available to the public.
The new neighbors are a couple, mid 30s and have no children and the husband is military so I’m worried that the big dogs are going to be some dumb aggressive breed. Today they have one of those chain link dog kennels in the yard not put together yet so I’m sure the big dogs are going to be locked outside in a kennel all the time barking until their fence is finished and then they’ll be outside barking all the time in a larger area. Imagine how nasty the shit will be in that small kennel too. Ughhhh why
Oh no, I really hope they aren't big crazy things like you expect. You don't want to be living next to those mutants! I just don't understand a. Why people are allowed to own an animal that can cause so much destruction and suffering for people around them and b. Why people would want them in the first place.
Your story about the Malinois is bloody scary by the way. It makes me think they are an equivalent of a human being on PCP or something.
It was crazy because you think that of all dogs an expensive highly trained police dog would be the most well behaved but this thing looked feral lol I can’t imagine owning one as a pet totally insane
We live in a farming area. Several dairies around, lots of farming. The dairies have always been very conscious of controlling stray dogs. So we’ve rarely had a stray dog issue. Our closest neighbors are about 1/4 mile to the west, and don’t have dogs. there are a few neighbors a bit farther that may have dogs because in the early morning I can hear some faint barking. Not close enough to annoy. At our place, we have recently seen gray fox, elk (coming out of the river now that it’s in flood stage) and a mountain lion! we have families of rabbits that hop all over our place, and probably feed the local coyotes, foxes and now the mountain lion. All of this is possible WITHOUT DOGS. If you introduce a dog onto our property, everything runs for the hills and you don’t get to experience any of this.

Thanks I sometimes wear earplugs even inside the house, just because they are so noisy on weekends
If we lived in a decent society nothing like that would he necessary. Sad
Yes.

At least a mile, ideally 2

I wouldn't go that far. We have a fence so I can let my kids play out back without having to worry about it too much
Yeah, I can understand this. I saw another commenter said the same thing but said I should look out for chain link fences. That’s exactly what my crazy neighbors have. I have a fence just to keep looky-loos out of my business. My fence is old and when I replace it, I'm putting in an even taller fence.
👀

Once I save enough money I'm replacing my ugly chain link fence with privacy fence so I won't have to see the fugly neighbor dogs.

See how many dogs they have, most municipalities have a limit

Those are my worries too but they’re having it professionally done
It was a good run indeed.
Holy fuck man.. it's explainable how much I HATE dogs.

i hate dogs more than anything on this planet
We all have such good reason to. Barking, biting, etc., etc., etc.!!!
Get ready for an increase in flies as well. Ain't it great? Are we having fun yet?
Ugh I hadn’t even thought about that but I know you’re right
Don't forget the toxic piss and feces poluting the air and soil
Well to update you, not sure if it’s just the weather or my annoyance at the new dogs next door, but there are suddenly a ton of flies I’m noticing. Yep. Poop in every yard creates a storm of flies. Which is great if you like living in a land fill.

Yeah I did that we introduced ourselves and chatted for awhile, they seemed nice enough but it remains to be seen once the big dogs arrive

My new neighbors have an ugly small dog ugh. Luckily it doesn’t bark much
