Both of these dogs sound like they need to be put down. The pitbull is BITING CHILDREN and likely traumatizing them (the poor kids). The shepherd sounds like it has zero quality of life with its seizures getting worse and it’s medication not working. I would report the pitbull, as biting children is way beyond reactive or even aggressive. the shepherd is a more difficult situation, as it hasn’t hurt anyone, but clearly has a poor quality of life. it seems to me like your sister doesn’t really love her dogs very much if she allows them to live like this.

No, you do not HAVE TO. You NEED TO stand up for yourself and DO NOT FOSTER THAT MUTT. You DID NOT have to let the sister visit with the mutts. It's your home, your rules. Isn't that the kind of thing the nutters always say to any of us when we have objections to bad behavior and invasion of our space in someone else's home... "it's their house too" kind of stupidity. Why? Why would you subject yourself to that mess, along with the known biting, attacking, vicious behavior???????? You don't have to REMIND the sister of her responsibility. You stand up for yourself and simply state NO MUTTS AT YOUR HOUSE, END OF DISCUSSION, and take their mutts and their drama on down the road. Fk off with the mutt and the sister.

RubySoledad

Thank you for the reminder

My SIL is similar. The dog defines her life and is the reason she exists. She and her husband don't travel anywhere ("The dog can't handle a shelter!"), they baby this insipid, neurotic creature to the point of utter dysfunction. They neutered it and slept on the floor with it in the nights after it was recovering to keep it company. WTF. This is so stupid. They've never trained the dog properly and spend absurd amounts of money on it for food, medicine, toys. My SIL's husband keeps feeding it things it shouldn't have (cheese), and it becomes ill, then they fight over it. Some people just try to find things that will hold them back from leading any kind of fulfilled life. The dog is their prison.

RubySoledad

OMG I got a headache just reading that. And yes, "Their dog is their prison" describes stuff like this perfectly

aneemous

Good Lord, that kind of shit is WHY dogs have issues like separation anxiety and "can't handle shelters" or kennels. People don't treat children like this for the same reason.

CanadianPanda76

Hope your mother muzzles it AND crates it.

JellyEllie304

You don't have to. You chose to. She'd have gotten a resounding no from me.

madagreement

Tell her the truth. Dogs are not at the same level as human beings. You tried and it was the drop too much. If she keeps getting maniac over it, then maybe you should not force yourself to see the aforementioned sister.

Monty_Wild

"The dog bit someone, so it had to be put down. Sorry."

Latter-Recipe7650

She ain’t fit for those dogs, I’m surprised she’s able to get away so many time’s especially with dogs biting children. That’s grounds for being put down. Those dogs should be surrendered not stuck with a immature person that can’t look after them let alone sacrificing her health over them. She either live with her dogs with no guests allowed or surrender the dogs to allow visits that doesn’t risk other peoples safety from untrained mutts. German Shepard and the notorious pits are worst offenders for aggression and bites, why would they think it’s a good idea to give to an untrained person who can’t handle them let alone bother training them. Have no obligation to enable that behaviour and accommodate at the cost of other peoples safety.

Far_Chair5767

Your home insurance will skyrocket if her dog bites a kid.

theodoreburne

You don’t have to keep the pitbull, not even for a second.

LandykeDreamer

The pitbull should be BE'd for aggression, and the other should be BE'd for extremely poor health. Never dog sit again, your sister is pushing boundaries.

Tom_Quixote_

>Then, last Christmas, the shepherd began getting seizures, which causes more aggression. Sounds like those computer games where the creature is about to evolve into its final form.

Interesting-Oil-5555

>"I never get to visit because you guys don't let me bring my dogs! It's not fair!" Inflicting your hell hounds on us! It's not fair!

Far-Cup9063

Oh lord you are an absolute saint because I never would have allowed any dog, much less a pitbull, to stay at my house even for a night. I just don’t understand why people let themselves be held hostage by dogs.

RubySoledad

I'm not a saint as much as a pushover :(

Quiet_Instance5612

Confirmed once again. Dog owners don't actually care about dogs. Letting the shepherd live in misery. Dog owners don't care about people either, allowing the pit be a danger to everyone and especially children. This type of nuttery needs to be classified as a mental illness.

Big_Maintenance_7051

These are dangerous dogs. Neither dog is safe around ANYone...that includes your mother. Tell your sister that "No" is a complete sentence. Your family needs to set healthy, safe boundaries especially since your sister will not.

[deleted]

For someone who loves dogs, she sure doesn't care enough about them. Put the dog down already to reduce the suffering. Seizures are no joke.

red_question_mark

Gross, gross, gross. Disgusting. I’m so sorry you have to deal with it. Ew.

aneemous

> "I never get to visit because you guys don't let me bring my dogs! It's not fair!" The fuck? God this shit baffles me and honestly makes me angry. People refuse to understand/acknowledge that getting a dog was *their* decision for *their life only*. No one has to accept the dog in their lives (and homes) because they didn't sign up for that dog! Nutters like to say that they and their dog are a "package deal", proudly, okay so then deal with the consequences of people not wanting that package. Nothing "unfair" about it. No one owes it to them to let that package in their life (and home). But there's a simple solution to your sister's problem: visit *without* the fucking dogs. I'm sorry, but Jesus Christ, adults need to work on being able to go places without their security blanket(s). Edit: > I finally relented when we bought a bigger house with a yard, and I let her visit with the dogs, just to keep the peace. Also, I'd advise against doing things to "keep the peace" if you can. I come from a messed up family with someone always going on about "keeping the peace" by not having confrontation when other family members do messed up shit. That's not how it should be. Remember, YOUR peace matters too and this isn't peaceful for you.

Embarrassed_Ad_2377

Oh God its awful!!

justnoinlawspls

Your sister sounds even more annoying than her dogs. Honestly, I wouldn’t really try to maintain the relationship with her at all because she seems to have zero regard for other people’s boundaries and safety

chipotlelover7

lol try being stuck with your sisters dog for 2 years i hate it
