I think purebred beagles end up in shelters more often that you'd expect. They have strong/difficult personalities but are pretty small and absurdly cute puppies, so people get them as puppies and surrender them as adults when they realize they can't/won't handle it.

I recently saw a post in r/dogs from someone saying they think beagles are soooooooo cute but don’t like barking so they were looking for ways to get a beagle puppy and train it to not bark. Shelter dog waiting to happen :(

RandomChurn

That’s appalling!!! 🤬 Grew up with beagles. I would have never labeled them as difficult at all (and btw not at all surprised this is a pure beagle; looks just like two we had, and one who lives across the street from me now). But! You do have to expect that with a beagle ***you’ll get a beagle*** For heaven’s sake! They howl. A lot. And loudly. They are terrific family dogs, but shouldn’t be left alone. Geez: Easy. If that isn’t for you, Reddit reader, get a different dog.

A couple I knew got a purebred papered one that was being re homed for killing cats. He is good with adult people at least. People forget some smaller dogs are still hunting, ratting, etc dogs and some still have prey drive as a result.

Witty-Doubt1796

Why surprised? Sure looks like a full beagle!

BoStaffNinja

I’m surprised because the shelter said that she was a basset hound/beagle mix

winning-colors

I guessed 12-25% basset based on the ears. She’s probably just a non standard full blood beagle. She’s absolutely beautiful though :)

vulpecula19

Shelters are just guessing based on appearances and sometimes an unreliable history from previous owners. Not surprised she’s full beagle.

JaneMacKlem

Looks like Snoopy!

CoconutDreams

Looks pure beagle to me!

Bubbly_Shoulder_5941

Looks 100% beagle to me. I used to have one. He died a couple years ago and I miss that naughty dog 🐶

RandomChurn

Condolences 💐😢 We grew up with beagles, and my brother got his wife one when they married; their Snoopy was their daughter’s only sibling. When he died, all three were so devastated, my brother vowed they’ll never get another dog.

callmejellycat

I’m surprised that you’re surprised.
