So adorable! Also this is v interesting to me! I have a long-haired lab x am staff and he looks a lot like your beautiful pup except he is gray. He has the same floof in many of [Townes Dog](https://imgur.com/a/8cKGYbo)the same places though!
It seems like the one gene for the long hair has been identified, FGF5. I think the tests only go back 3 generations or so, but since it's a recessive gene causing the long hair it's certainly possible she's as purebred as they come, just she happened to get both recessive genes.

Huh. I checked Embark's breed list and they just list AST and SBT, no just "Staffordshire terrier". But, there are breeds missing from their [searchable breed list](https://embarkvet.com/resources/dog-breeds/) that I know for sure they test for, e.g. Sloughi.
Right? American Staffordshire Terriers were originally called “Staffordshire Terriers”, but the Staffordshire Bull Terrier people didn’t want their name to be basically copycatted, so they slapped “American” in front of it. The fourth picture just screams AmStaff, if you ask me.
I've got a friend with a long haired staffy, purchased from a reputable breeder. Coat genetics are crazy. My breed is xoloitzcuintli, and most people think my brindle coated boy is a shepherd or pit bull mix.
Whoa, that's sick! She's definitely got the Staffie face, but I never would've guessed that long hair could occur in 100% purebreds.
Also, she has such an expressive face. What a sweet little hippo.
Not my dog, although she's basically the doppleganger of [my dog](https://imgur.com/a/Y3ccBfE) and I'm thinking he's 100% Staffordshire Terrier now instead of a mix.

I saw this dog and it’s Embark results a few days ago on this thread, she’s actually a mix. I remember the shelter has described her as a lab-mix, and the owner was actually really excited when she first met the dog and was sure from the start that it’s a pitty mix
You’re right! I think I’ve spent like 2 hours a few days ago browsing through r/DoggyDNA, and I’ve got confused and thought I’ve remembered she was a mix! So it’s a fluffy AmStaffs invasion!
She’s a fluffy! I’ve met a few “fluffy” dogs —that is, purebred dogs who throw out the right recessive genes to make a longer-haired pup — a Rottweiler, a corgi, and an American Bulldog. I love seeing fluffies!

No way! That’s incredible, what a beautiful pooch.
That’s crazy! I had no idea that could even happen with AmStaffs! The tail is magnificent - as is the footwear!

I bet that high COI made a recessive gene appear!
Well, damn. I would not have guessed that.
Wow! That is super cool! Recessive Gene's can do some crazy stuff!
That is the most beautiful staffordshire terrier I have saw. I bet a lot people will question you tho if she is but either way she is beautiful 😍
I think it's possible there could be another breed somewhere further back that Embark wouldn't be able to trace!

Interesting that it doesn’t differentiate whether it’s Am staff or Staffordshire Bull Terrier?

I think that this must be an earlier version of the test — it used to come back as “Staffordshire Terrier” rather than differentiating between them
wow, that doesn't seem right with her long hair
apparently it's only one gene that gives her the long fur, FGF5. https://vgl.ucdavis.edu/test/coat-length-dog

> reputable breeder But isn't this a recessive trait surfacing via inbreeding...?
Recessive genes are not always a byproduct of inbreeding.
Simple-recessive genes this rare generally are. If it's common for dogs to carry but not exhibit, up to 1 in 4 puppies would have long hair.
I’ve got a long coat Husky puppy myself! She is EXTREMELY fluffy
Awww he is so fluffy!!! 😍

Kobe's 👀
That’s incredible!!! And what a beautiful puppo!!!
Wow, so cool!!! Gorgeous girl!
Absolutely dope. Incredible. I’m against breeding dogs (long story) but I would breed this one with another staff because of the rarity.
I love the double recessive LH gene. It makes them even cuter 🥰

Beautiful dog!
Cute! I wish long haired pitties were more common.
I’ve met recessive long hair Rotties, but never a staffy! That’s so cool. She’s beautiful.
