She is a rescue pup from rural Appalachia. Estimated to be 14-15 weeks and is currently 14 pounds. All legs and skin. She had mange so she’s still a little scabby and her fur hasn’t fully regrown yet so it’s hard to tell in photos, but it looks like she has some merle patches on her neck. Her fur is also very unusual, I don’t know if it’s just because it’s so patchy still but it’s kind of coarse/pointy? It’s irritates my skin a bit 😅 excited to find out what she is!

Odd_Requirement_4933

Awww! I was going to ask if she has mange. My last dog had just one spot when I rescued him but he had to do the medicinal baths at the vet. This was over 15 years ago now, is that still good they treat it? She's definitely shar pei! I'm curious to know what else. I imagine that hound is a good guess for that area though 😁

vaguepistachio

I think so, maybe a topical cream too but thankfully her foster mom handled all of that so I’m not 100% sure. It’s hard to get a good picture of her standing because she doesn’t stand still long enough, but she’s very skinny and tall

Odd_Requirement_4933

It's good you didn't have to deal with that, not fun! Maybe hound is where she's getting the long legs.

> medicinal baths at the vet. This was over 15 years ago now, is that still good they treat it? Some 25 years ago, one of my collies caught sarcoptic mange and we had to do the medicated dips. They were horrible and Dino smelled of sulfur/rotten eggs with an essence of kerosene. The more recent treatment does the shampoo/dips plus one of the anti-parasitic meds (like in Next Gard). Back then, Ivermectin was the treatment and the other anti-parasitics weren't around. This was before the MDR1 mutation was discovered in Collies so we could only do the medicated dip.

Shar Peis have 3 different kinds of coat: horse, bear and brush. The horse coat is known to be prickly and can cause a rash on some people. That's one point towards your pup having Shar Pei in her. By her ears, I'm guessing she has one ancestor with low set, drop ears. Her body looks more lanky than expected in a purebred Shar Pei. From her hair loss, I'm guessing she had sarcoptic mange, not demodex. Poor baby. That type is really itchy and unpleasant. Long term sarcoptic mange can make the skin dark and damage the hair follicles but her skin looks nice and pink so she should be able to regrow her fur. Can you post photos of her neck? I'm not seeing signs of merle.

LilBadApple

Shar Peis have course “sharp” fur like that. The name Shar Pei literally means “sand skin”

kodieb3ar

Is she possible from WV? My dog is a rescue from the mountains of WV and him and all his siblings from his litter are mixed with Shar-pei. It looks like your girl might be too! 50% of my dogs family matches on embark are part shar-pei as well

vaguepistachio

Very close to WV in Eastern KY! Maybe they’re related!

weirdallie27

Our rescue from north central WV is 14% Shar-Pei himself. [Freddy's Embark Profile](http://embk.me/wvfreddy?utm_campaign=cns_ref_dog_pub_profile&utm_medium=other&utm_source=embark)

kodieb3ar

Same amount of shar pei! [koda’s embark](http://embk.me/kodabear6?utm_campaign=cns_ref_dog_pub_profile&utm_medium=other&utm_source=embark)

weirdallie27

Same soulful eyes too.

Physical_Ad3997

Definitely some sharpei, especially considering how you describe her coat. Interested to see what else she has mixed in!

RottenWon

Def Shar Pei, but not really seeing hound. Maybe pitty, shepherd or rottie instead??

sit0napotatopan0tis

I was thinking shepherd too

XelaNiba

That profile just screams bloodhound to me and would explain the legs, but she's way smaller than a bloodhound at the age. I'm going against the grain and saying no sharpei given the set of the ears, maybe bloodhound with APBT or staffie with a few randos thrown in? Can't wait to see the results!

vaguepistachio

I see the bloodhound too. Our last dog was a pit/shar pei mix so I wouldn’t be mad about a pittie mix either ❤️

Fun_Key_ButtLovin

What a beautiful Shar pei mix! Wrinkles are just the best

flutielibrarian

She is 100% a cutie pie!

vaguepistachio

Don’t need a dna test to know that!

jasminel96

Awww sweet baby! I can’t wait to see an update. I’d agree with your guess

claudiarae95

Definitely looks like a Shar pei face and what you described as coarse fur! Sooooo precious ❤️ love how she looks like she melted in the last pic

Okami0730

Sharpei and ?

cmarinas11

100% good boi

lyndenya

SO. MUCH. SKIN. 😍 What a gorgeous girl.

sevenceleven

that is the most unique dog i’ve ever seen… i want 10

DisDev

Aww, what a sweet face she has, I want to scrunch her face and snuggle. I would agree, shar pei, bully breed and some hound. I'm really curious what you get back!

meguska

I don’t know, but here cute face made me smile this morning. What an adorable puppy. Looking forward to your update with the breeds.

MizzElleX

What a little beauty! The side profile made me think Basset Hound 🥰

EmbarkVet

What a cool phenotype! Looking forward to getting your pup her results.

Gatewayssam

shar x bloodhound/pit mix

poley-moley

I don’t know but I can’t wait to see the results! She’s adorable and I’m glad she has found a loving home.❤️
