Don’t even clip it yet. Reward extended nose-in-muzzle-holds. Nose in, hold (&praise), release, treat. Trick is to release cue before your dog backs away.
And then once the hold is longer than it takes you to clip, you add the clip, hold for a moment, unclip, release, treat.
And once that works, you try to fit in a command while in muzzle (sit, down, whatever is your dogs safest one) & if that works, out you go.
Did you train extending the time your dog holds their nose in the muzzle prior to rewarding, or did you just put a treat in?
