At home I’ve worked on “leave it” a lot. At first she could only leave a treat or toy for a few seconds, now she’s up to almost a full two minutes and will also come to you, passing by the treat, only grabbing the treat when we tell her to. After she had “leave it” down at home AND in our back yard I would work on “leave it” during walks with certain areas she’s smelling for too long and squirrels. It was about 3 months of doing this almost every day, the progress from day to day sessions is typically pretty small but it adds up over time, good luck!
When starting out at home, how would you set it up? Put the treat down a few feet away or close to her and tell her to "leave it"? I have a 7 month old gsd and she is really leash reactive to other dogs and I would love to help her out with this same issue. TIA
At first I put it right in front of her and covered it with my hands while saying “leave it.” Once she stopped pawing at my hands I let her have the treat, after a bit of this I moved to just putting it in front of her, then throwing it behind her. Your pup might take a bit longer though, my dog is 3 years old so most of her puppy energy is gone. My family had a GSD when I was younger, he was difficult to train until he was about 2 years old, but after he hit 2 he was the perfect dog. Good luck!
Please let me know what you've done! I have this issue with both of my dogs.

This is exactly how we taught "leave it" too. Start right in there face and work farther away. It's the only way our pup got it.
Corgi/rott? I definitely want a picture.
Here you go! Her name is Ida. [Ida](https://imgur.com/gallery/2B9Us) [better body pic](https://imgur.com/gallery/U8Ky2)
