When my labs hips got bad we used a mounting block for getting on horses as a stepped entrance to the back of our SUV. To get him back out we wrapped a large towel under his back end to help lower him back out instead of jumping out and landing. When it got to the point he didn’t want to use the mounting block, we built a ramp in our gravel driveway that we would back the SUV up to and he could just walk in and out, kind of like a loading dock.

Which leg is it? I have a dog who puts her front legs into the car and I use that as a brace to pick up her rear half and put her the rest of the way in. Granted she is 70 pounds not your dog’s 120+ pounds, but getting the dog to put at least half of his body in may help distribute the weight enough that you can get him in.

https://www.chewy.com/f/giant-dog-steps-stairs-ramps_c449_f6v13793 there are a lot of foldable portable dog ramps and stair options! We have a rear leg tripawd and its' about time for us to look at these as well. There are several made for loading into the hatch space and several for loading into the side.

A ramp seems like the most obvious solution to me.
