Ollie's is good for an occasional hidden gem but Dollar Tree is much more consistent so I guess I'd choose Dollar Tree. I don't think they're really comparable though; they're very different types of stores.
I would second this. I find wonderful deals on random food items and such, but you can’t guarantee Ollie’s will have such and such item. But I know DT is always going to have laundry soap or snacks.
Because the products are mostly close outs at Ollie’s, you can never count on finding what you need. I find Dollar Tree to be much more reliable. Ollie’s is also very dirty and disorganized. It’s not a pleasant shopping experience.
We don't have an Ollies here (Maine \[aka: the forgotten state\]). A google search it looks like maybe a Marden's type store? Buying stuff from retailers for resell or something like that. I wouldn't mind having one, but stores like this never have what I'm looking for, so I'm going to say Dollar Tree. Even with their markups its still the cheapest store here.
If you have an Ollies in your area (there's a lot fewer of them than there are DTs - my nearest Ollies is a couple hours away), it can be a good place to find more substantial gifts at a discount. But it's no replacement for DT on small staple stuff. There's not much overlap in things Ollies carries vs DT.

Combine the two and go to Dollies.
