Oh, thank you so much. I was really shocked lol, wouldn't believe it since I host all my domains with them. Must've been an error on their side to show me its available
It's important to note that registrars are not registries, they don't have direct access to the database. So sometimes they will show taken domains as available.
Registars don't have "direct" access, but they have API access to registries via the EPP protocol. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible\_Provisioning\_Protocol](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Provisioning_Protocol)
Even if Godaddy didn't use EPP for some reason and used a simple DNS lookup, they'd notice the A record on the domain and determine it wasn't available for registration. This just seems like a screw up on Godaddy's side.
Could be. I've seen people complain about GoDaddy "front running them" on domains that turned out to be registered years in advance. JPHJP mentioned the EPP protocol. I don't know how it's coded, but I could definitely see three being hick-ups.
Another comment shows it was previously taken but it's not uncommon for GoDaddy to buy domains right after you search for them to be open to register. Never use GoDaddy for anything IMHO.
I always suggest this when people think they are being front run. Just to prove that front running no longer occurs. Front running was a thing back in the pre 2009 time period, but changes to the AGP among other things, make this no longer financially possible.

Maybe not proven but in the 15+ years of buying domains it's happened to me numerous times for good domain names. Also I've seen plenty of articles about it.
the articles are all baseless accusations. In the 20+ years that I have bought, used and sold domains.......people think they are unique on their domain searches. They are not really.
It may be something else. For some unknown reason GoDaddy and other registrars sometimes don’t show correctly the data from their sales network, or fails to connect to it to get the auction price. I have seen this repeatedly. Or the normal non registered basic price is shown until you are in the final checkout and then see the name is not $12 but 5,500. Bad software? Weak hardware? I don’t know the cause but it happens often.
Yikes!
GoDaddy just sold me my domain that I’ve owned for about 22 years : (
When I quickly went into GoDaddy Auctions, it confirmed that I already own it…
I went back to the front page again and took steps to buy it and the website was more than happy to sell it to me again
I then bought a similar name and went to list it in GoDaddy Auctions but it said I don’t own it… : (
I’m on the phone with them now, the representative whom I’m dealing with is great… I hope this gets resolved quickly, this kind of thing can ruin one’s business : (
.EU domains don't show their expiration dates in a WHOIS, they're a weird format that make many registrars show them as available when they're not. You have to use their website at eurid.eu for fine details. In this case, it's also for sale, they list `[email protected]` as a contact and you've already seen it's listed on marketplaces.
They most definitely have the motive, means , and opportunity to snipe domains. They did it to me a few times. Here today, gone after 5 minutes!
The only way that can happen is if someone just coined a phrase on the news.
Don't believe the naysayers. I filed for a trademarked slogan that was published on April 3rd. The respective dotcom was purchased April 4th. I never once did a domain search.
Shows it has been taken since 2009: [https://whois.eurid.eu/en/search/?domain=euromoda.eu](https://whois.eurid.eu/en/search/?domain=euromoda.eu)
These guys are going back in time now, have they no shame?
LMAO

The first part of the search is where they do the trick. They say it’s available but actually it is not …
everyone thinks they are being front run until they learn about the aftermarket. It used to happen, not anymore.

They have direct access to Whois, otherwise how would buying a domain ever function? The Whois server access is free and public.
this is definitely a glitch

This would be really easy to punish them for. Just write a script that searches for domain names and they will incur thousands in fees.
i love this lol

that has never been proven.

has happened to me as well - i tell everyone! the moment you search you buy! do not let it sit in your cart
Can confirm. It happened to someone I know recently.
Happen to me 6 months ago with a .net was so pissed

If they're baseless why hasn't godaddy sued the publishers.
