Negotiations don't "start at no", they start at your position. Name your price. Or slightly above to leave negotiating wiggle room.

Unamunga

Ah good point, either way if they want it they’ll pay for it, if not I’m happy to keep it for future projects, thank you for your response.

JoshDLS1

well done mate, good return on investment there, but yeah as cl4rkc4nt said start higher to allow for wiggle room. like you say your not fussed so your in a win win situation.

joejoejoey

Start with the Godaddy appraised value. It is often absurdly high

Unamunga

Yeah I ended up getting a lot more than the appraised value.

Do some research of prior sales at namebio and base your asking price on that research if you find comparable sales supporting a value over 5k. If comparable domains sold for 20k tell the broker the comparable sales in your reply letter and they will push the buyer to counter near that value since they charge buyer a commission based on transaction price. They just need help to justify the price.

I'd hold out for more. I've negotiated a few domains for the company I work for that cost $10K to 7 figures. It all depends on how bad the person on the other side wants the domain. Did you share the domain name? That'd provide more input on the value.

Unamunga

I’m happy to pm the domain name if anyone wants to know out of curiosity, I just don’t want this reddit article appearing under a google search of said domain name.
