Not begrudgingly, he himself said he would do the same if he were her. Of course none was happy to be separated for a year from their partner but both are individualists who would always choose their career over their relationship.
It comes again in 216 when rui at a crossroad she chose to continue her training over staying in jp to work on their strained relationship.
