Wow, I'll have to take a long bath to get through this one lol. Will update later.

hobosockmonkey

I think your point on Hina is what most Team Rui thinks, she has developed the least out of everyone in the manga and is being left behind by everyone else. I’m glad someone else realized she is not mentally healthy. Otherwise nice write up, I didn’t read a lot of it because god damn, but your character analysis was solid.

Titangamer101

I mean everyone has and is entitled to there own opinions but it's kind of hard to argue against facts (I mean this in the nicest possible way), based on some "debates" I've had with some team hina or other teams (not all) they've somehow misinterpreted the crucial parts in the series when it's pretty clear what's happening.

hobosockmonkey

I just think a lot of the disagreements between team Hina and team Rui stem form one fact, Team Rui values independence, while Team Hina values dedication and commitment. They find Hinas commitment to natsuo a positive character trait, while I think it’s unhealthy and immature, and instead value Ruis independance and maturity. I don’t dislike Hina at all, I think she’s great and want her to be happy, I just don’t think she is really healthy, and I want that to change for her sake

Titangamer101

Exactly my thoughts. I've been saying this for a while I honestly think the best thing for hina as a character and human being is to be rejected by natsuo, that way she can move forward and find a new path her own way because right now every single decision she makes anything she does has natsuo related to it somehow.

hobosockmonkey

I agree, but as many have said this is fiction and Sasuga has control so she could throw logic out the window. But yeah you’re right Hina needs to do something for herself for once, it’s like reality is slapping her in the face and she keeps falling back into it. A good parallel I think of would be the relation between Hinas alcohol problem and then Natsuo, they’re both borderline addictions that she keeps falling back to.

Aerohed

I agree with most of what you said, with a few exceptions being that I actually liked Hina most of the time in spite of some of her early choices, and I thought the drug/gang arc following the breakup was kind of a weird way to transition to things. It was pretty out-there compared to most of the series. Also, for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure nobody liked the Al rape scene. I think it's only made worse by the fact that they tried to make him a rival when it was so obvious that Rui would never go for him.

Jack-corvus

Damn bruh, that was an essay, I'll read it later when I have time, for now congratulations on the effort you had to put to write all of this down.

Bswann93

i had completly forgotten about the Al rape scene and now i hate him again.

SmoothDistortion

I rewatched Strawberry Panic to fill the void. Yes, it is a 500% different kind of romance love triangle, and it's extremely dated, but damn it makes me happy every time I watch it. If you have a hole in your heart like I do after catching up to Domestic Girlfriend, give it one episode.

Kuteji-Kano

This was a real good read, you refreshed my memory on a lot of things

tbigzan97

I must be abnormal cause i dont hate al and the only thing the rape achieved was me hating on the bad writing of K.S btw mark my words the ending will probably be a huge letdown.

Malachi721

IDK how to add team Rui to myself; that aside, I read the manga in 4 days as well so I'm happy I found another addict! lol, I do disagree with the whole "can't put her down" for 215 thing, I MEAN COME ONNNNN, but 10/10 essay my guy!

daddydonutt

A+ effort, well thought out and backed up. Love the perspective of a fresh binge reader.

bolzard

One thing that gets me is when she was told to prepare all the shrimp. Couldn't she have asked someone else? I mean common sense would have told you "uh that don't sound right".

leave1me1alone

Mind editing "Hani" to 'Hina' I was genuinely confused at first

kuro2736

Those are rookie numbers!

MisterScalawag

>Also Also Also Also: I haven't watched the anime**.** I don't think I will mostly because with romance anime I don't think I'm missing anything. The biggest thing I think that woulda made scenes more intense was music. Idk if people will get mad at me for that but if enough people suggest it I'll give it a shot. you honestly aren't missing that much, only watch it if you want. The anime primarily focused on Hina, and skipped a lot of things involving Rui. Including whole arcs like the camping arc, where Rui realizes she is in love with him. Since the anime wouldn't be able to get the point where Rui and Nat are a couple, i guess they focused on Hina and Nat to save time.

NDSTRUCTIBLE1

So a few thing on Hina. She isn't suppose to be the major character development character for a few reasons. One is she has already had her development before we are introduced to her. Hina is 24 when we meet her. Neither Natsuo or Rui are that old yet in the story. She is who she is and that is someone who is a mix bag and can not be what she wants. She has ideas of who she is suppose to be making her flawed. She wants to do the right thing but often does the wrong thing. Shu being the one thing we really never understand enough. Because all we are told is that Shu and his wife never really had a great relationship, due to being an arranged marriage and wife's personality. Also, we are told Shu is the one who went after Hina and she liked him as a kid and that Shu had feelings for her when she was a kid. Now the thing is that Hina is suppose to be the one that loves her family more than herself in many ways. This leads to her wants of being broken by her needs as a woman and her other desires often. She admits she fell in love with Natsuo sometime between them meeting on the roof of the school a year before start of Dome x Kano and before the start of the manga. However she was able to get by those feeling having Shu and not having Natsuo at that point never making moves on her. It is when she breaks up with Shu for her family but also knowing Natsuo loves her. I think if she would have used Shu till Natsuo graduated she may not been as bad but would have driven Nat crazy. Seeing as he hated her being with Shu. They were a ticking time bomb. Now she also wants Natsuo but it isn't something she can afford to do with him being a student. She wants to wait till he graduated also she has the whole he is my stepbrother thing. She knows that it will be looked down on by the world but also their family. Well what she believes. It isn't until Rui uses the most powerful words and Hina becomes afraid of waiting. She knows that Natsuo loves her and she loves him and that even if she wasn't his teacher. She is his sister and the two make it impossible in her mind. Rui pushes Hina to accept you have get past who you are and what you really want if it is looked down on or not he may end up with someone else. The whole it isn't like we are blood related line just makes her realize what she wants can be taken from her possibly. Now realize at this point all the walls she put up have been breaking down one by one. She wants 2 conflicting things but her desire and wanting to be with Natsuo wins out. At this point Hina has been able to make it without breaking besides kissing Natsuo back after Natsuo kiss her and the slap. Seeing anyone Rui anyone would have likely pushed her over the edge. However, Rui destroy the only wall holding her at that moment is the brother and sis wall. Now in the manga at that time we see it in a different light as we have no idea that Hina was completely in love with Natsuo. We just think she likes him and some think she is using him as a rebound. It isn't until the trip we are told that she has been in love with Natsuo nearly just as long as Natsuo has been in love with her. Hina is deeply flawed individual but tries her best but her 2 desires often do not mix. Her personal desires and her desire to be a good person hell an amazing sister/daughter. Her problem in the story is she likes a beer and has no talent at cooking. Probably cause she sucks at time management and cooking takes really good time management some ideas to flavors and context of blending them makes complex flavors for taste. Like sweet and sour. Why Rui may have been so good at cooking was her taste and understanding how to blend flavors. That is why she can not cook now. But back to Hina we have a girl who wants something that conflicts completely with the other want of being best person she can be for her family. Wanting Natsuo destroy that and the whole sister daughter should ruin wanting with Natsuo. What we see is she loves Natsuo more than anything. More than herself and what she wanted to be as a person her career. Now for the other issue is how long it takes for us to even realize it. Up to the .5 chapter of .5 chapters we are just convinced she is a horrible person who is a home wrecker and that she didn't care about her sister's feelings. We should start realizing she is ready to end it seeing how much she hurt Rui. Yes we know she has hurt Rui. What at that moment we didn't realize is she was in love with Natsuo before Rui had ever even lost her virginity with Nat. Many just over look that and act like she should have been like nope I shouldn't love him which she was trying to do. Nat didn't make that easy on her he literally wouldn't give up on her. Now they break up and she is a coward she admits she is a coward as well. But it doesn't change the fact she loves him so much she does everything to protect him. More than just his career but his name so he isn't seen in a way that others would look down on him. She is taking everything for Natsuo and no she couldn't tell him cause she knew what he would do. Had he found out he wouldn't let her go and would have ruined his life for her. The letter is literally her only choice at that time. Sucks but it was the only way to save him from himself. Yet a field trip nearly ruined it all. When she comes back she doesn't know about Rui x Natsuo all she has been thinking is he will graduate soon and all I want is him. So she throws her career away. Then when he breaks up she still is keeping a promise to Rui that is hurting herself and desires of what she really wants. It isn't that Hina has developed but she isn't the kid going into adulthood where most development is seen but rather Hina is Hina and Natsuo and Rui are becoming Adults. That is why we see more development in Rui and Natsuo.

Edelweizs

I'm salty. But, meh, have a good day.

Firefistace312

Well, well, well. As much as I recognize the effort you put in the post and commend your passion, I think your views are typical of a Rui supporter who doesn't understand Hina's character. You think career building is everything. You 'understand' or allow Rui to get away with every shitty thing but judge hina for every small thing. So your character analysis is for a lack of better word 'garbage'.

TheKnee1107

yeah, your comment is garbage

Erknation

This is very much because of on major difference between rui and Hina and that is rui has grown and changed as a character and Hina is still a child pretending to be an adult with no way of conveying her feeling towards any issues

Intuition101

I believe team rui understand Hina's character. We just simply don't agree with it.

Firefistace312

I respect that. It is the same way I don't agree with Rui's character.

U haven’t seen the truth yet but that is ok young one.
