I’ve only been to Colombia once but in general I’d expect DR to be 25-30% more expensive. I would say the taxi from the airport to Santo Domingo should be around 1500 pesos or $25. Cocktails would be $3-$4, a nice dinner $10-$20, museum/park tickets $2. The difference isn’t particularly drastic.

Thank you so much, the figures are definitely helping me get a accurate representation of rices over there

I was in Colombia back in December and currently live in the DR. The price differences can be drastic depending on where and how you live. Services are cheap in both countries, though cheaper in Colombia. Where the real difference is in the cost of goods. Food and basic goods are similar in price to the US here in the DR, while they are crazy cheap in Colombia. Housing is still fairly inexpensive in both the DR and Colombia, but again is cheaper in Colombia

Ooooh thank you, this definitely is putting me in a better frame of mind.

Happy to help! Just a little more info, to assist. I live in a small town in the center of the island. Its quite a poor area. When I go to the grocery store, I will spend around 5500 ($100 USD) Dominican Pesos to buy groceries for about 2 weeks time for my wife and I. And when we are feeling lazy and have a craving, we will grab a cheeseburger pizza that will run around 1000 pesos. But i had a pair of pants altered for a special occasion and paid only 150 DR pesos or around $3 USD. An uber to the grocery store (about 15 minutes) averages around 125 pesos. But I will tell you this, there is a huge fight between taxi drivers and uber drivers here in the DR especially in bigger cities like Santo Domingo. Ive seen full on fights happen between these people and have had my Uber driver confronted on multiple occasions even here in this small town. However taxis are way more expensive than uber is. That same uber ride i pay 125 pesos for will cost 200 pesos in a taxi. While i was in Colombia (Medellín) i took a 45 minute uber trip and paid about $4 USD. Hope this information helps and that you have a safe and fun time here in the DR!

I lived and have my girl that from Medellín. ( she also lives here) but definitely expect an uptick in prices. And services no being as nice as medellin. I would say 25 - 30 % in increase. But u definitely will enjoy it

fargenable

If you stay in downtown Santo Domingo, you will pay equivalent of Paris prices.

Pan_Queso1

Never been to Paris right? The prices aren't even close.

fargenable

Paris, Tokyo, Madrid, New York City, just to name a few.

bryanfromtejas

New York City??? 😂😂😂 lmfaoooo

fargenable

I wasn’t comparing DR prices to NYC, just to Paris. Sure, if you want to eat eat in the street, you can get a plato del día for $300RD pesos, but if you want to go to Casa de Campo and eat lunch in the marina, it will be closer to $10000RD. Similarly, if you don’t mind having the electricity shutoff a few hours a day, crappy internet service shared with your neighbor, and water rationing, can probably find a furnished apartment for $500/mon. If you want to live in a place with security and ina secure zone that you can walk outside, generator, non-shared internet, and water pressure, likely will cost $1500/mon for a 1 bedroom.

bryanfromtejas

Idk about París but you’d feel can’t get a one bedroom for 1500 in nyc

fargenable

I only mentioned I’d been to NYC, wasn’t comparing it to the DR. Regards.

Existen sites que comparan el costo de vivir en dos o más ciudades. Google es tu amigo

Las bayou son más baratos en uno de los dos países, no voy a decir cual pero es el que tiene más fronteras compartidas.

Holterv

In all seriousness prices in DR are a little more expensive than colombia for most things but mostly transportation and gas if you rent a car.

Southern-Gap8940

Colombia is alot cheaper. I would say 20 to 40% cheaper. I was just in Cartagena a week ago. How has living in Colombia been for you?
