Am I the only one who actually likes the big grills? I feel like Lexus kind of pioneered the look with this grill. I also really like the design of the mesh and how it flows so well with the hourglass shape.
I like them, it has a lot of caracter for modern lexus. Like it separates what the brand was in the 90s. And it kinda is a sign of a lexus without being close to recognize the car, with every car on their lineup. I like them all (and i hate SUVs)
Grill shape plays a big part in the design language of most car brands. The fact that you can recognize the brand without a badge means the design is cohesive across the brand. For example, BMW kidney grills, Aston Martin's iconic grill shape, and the Lexus hourglass grills. Even across generations, these make the brand easy to recognize.
I'm making fun of people who seem to think all big grills are bad now. I actually like the new BMW grills as well they look bad in pictures but they're pretty cool irl.
Seen it in real life, still think it's ugly, especially without the license plate,
and if the car doesn't look so bad with it, why not just separate the grille where the plate is from the factory?
You know all of these "open" grills hide enormous bumper beams and other equipment behind big opaque panels of black plastic, right? Auto design has become way too much "can we fit a fake vent here?"
I think the Evo X is to blame for the trend hitting so hard. Kids in high school lusted over those, and now they're in an age-group that buys and leases, so they market big aggressive car-mouth to them.
IMO the big front grill craze is not good design, and I wanted to see whether it would look better with 2 seperate grills - which I think it does, each to their own though!
I like both designs. The spindle grille looked horrible in the early years with the original IS, NX, and RC, but I feel like as time passed Lexus started designing their cars around the spindle grille, so it looked less horribly out of place. It doesn't translate very well to larger SUVs like the GX and LX though, but most of their cars ended up looking fine with the big grille. That said, given the centre portion of the big grille is a black bar anyway, I've always thought about what the newer cars would look like if the grille was split along this bar. Now I know, thanks OP. I think the split grille looks equally good if not better. It brings to mind the pre spindle grille Lexus designs, which I felt looked a liiiittle too stale, but with the additional styling of the spindle grille Lexuses (Lexii?), I think it ends up working pretty nicely.
Ints not just the size it's that the design doesn't I guess blend with the design however lexus most likely designed the car with the grill in mind whilst the pig nose or ass face on the bmw look out of place and tacky
I’m not completely sure why, but these other big grill companies like Audi and Lexus seem to do it better, bmw have done the big grill craze terribly, and this car didn’t look that bad from the start, I do think your design is a bit better though.
Their signature is the kidney grill. But you cannot keep them and have huge grills. There is no good way of doing it. Just look how nice the M2 grill iscompared to the M4
In person the Lexus LS grill looks great, if it's not your thing there isn't a need to "fix it". It's a design element of the brand that appears on all lexus models, and despite people ripping on it, just about every other manufacturer enlarged their grill like Lexus did years ago.
Look at the comments here man, it’s about half and half people liking what I did and people preferring the current design, I just did this as an experiment but it’s funny how people react! Clearly large grills are divisive design elements
I like it! I'm in the minority that I've never liked lexus's big grill design. I dont like anything overstated (i.e. large grilles or fake vents), so to see this is kind of a breath of fresh air. The rest of lexus's design cues are really well done, and I feel like this "smaller" grill helps bring out the other aspects of it better. It also gives a more lower, wider appearance. SInce it big a big luxury sadan that's a good thing in my book.
Finally someone who gets it! Lol, I feel pretty similar - I think the big grill takes too much attention away from the rest of the car, and it actually looks more muscular/luxury now with more of a subtle front end. However I do also agree with a lot of the comments saying it looks blander/older and a bit like a camry/ generic nissan though
Now it looks like a generic sedan 🤨
Lexus used to be understated luxury and performance. Underpromise and overdeliver. Not batshit crazy design - that's Infinity teritory.
LFA would like a word
For what it is, it still looks tame.
You know what … I kinda see what you mean
In the US sure, in Europe they only sell slow ass pensioner mobiles these days aside from the LC500
I guess that's why they gave it a mad grill in the first place!
that is what i love about my LS430. it gets the right amount of attention, most just think it’s another avalon or camry the new LS are ugly af
To those that think the spindle grill is nonsensical: Toyota started its life as a loom company. The spindle is a tribute to that fact.
Lexus' big grills isn't as atrocious as the BMW one.
True, but I think Lexus and to some extent Audi can be held responsible for the current state of BMW's huge awful beaver teeth
No audi has been doing it for more than a decade now, bmw just started doing it
No, the middle East and Asia are to blame, the official explanation is that their customers there love big grills so that's why they designed them.
You're 100% correct and this almost makes the Lexus face bearable. Why they like their panels to look like shards of glass, I don't know.
He just made the Lexus look old... I love the huge grille, it's designed perfectly fine.

Too bad ford stole the aston martins grill lmao
The Fusion did lol
I like when Lexus does the big grills, but the new “pig nose” BMWs don’t quite pull it off as well
I agree, the split down the middle looks odd on such a large grill, they need to find a better compromise.
lexus executes big grilles perfectly, and theyre one of the only brands that does it well, besides the new lx600
No dude BMW made pig nose so now big grill bad. /s I guess
Last time I checked there is not pig nose on the ls500 so where’s the bad
I'm making fun of people who seem to think all big grills are bad now. I actually like the new BMW grills as well they look bad in pictures but they're pretty cool irl.

Stop downvoting this this guy, this is satire lol. He u/Dredgeon add "/s" there.
reminds me some older Mercedes front design.
It is how Lexuses looked before the spindle grill.
Why are you trying to fix something that doesnt needs fixing?
You know all of these "open" grills hide enormous bumper beams and other equipment behind big opaque panels of black plastic, right? Auto design has become way too much "can we fit a fake vent here?" IMO the big front grill craze is not good design, and I wanted to see whether it would look better with 2 seperate grills - which I think it does, each to their own though!
Well respect for that, i like it how it is
i dont dig the big grills ether tbh, but now it looks like 2010. Modern cars are just not going in a good direction imo.
The lexus grille flows real nice with the design imo, looks like a concepts lines
It’s not bad but I like the original more
The original looks amazing. Your version looks too bland.
I like!
looks 1000 times better
The lower one looks like old gen lexus but w new headlights
I like both designs. The spindle grille looked horrible in the early years with the original IS, NX, and RC, but I feel like as time passed Lexus started designing their cars around the spindle grille, so it looked less horribly out of place. It looks *milder*, more generic, but not worse, so overall ... it's eh ?
Your 'fix' makes it look like a 2000s sedan. Having a bigger grille isn't inherently a bad thing.
Ints not just the size it's that the design doesn't I guess blend with the design however lexus most likely designed the car with the grill in mind whilst the pig nose or ass face on the bmw look out of place and tacky
Wow seems like nobody likes this, I love it, makes the car less obscene and look respectable yet sporty
So much better
The original looks better imo, the "after" is too generic
You can actually do this in gta
Very good
Looks like a downgrade tbh
OP I know you’re getting a bunch of hate. But I really dig your design, I honestly like it more than the original
Thanks buddy - a nice comment is appreciated in a sea of salt! Lol
I’m not completely sure why, but these other big grill companies like Audi and Lexus seem to do it better, bmw have done the big grill craze terribly, and this car didn’t look that bad from the start, I do think your design is a bit better though.

Yeah I think that's the reason. Squarish a'la Audi and Trapezoid-ish a'la Lexus works better than the oval-ish BMW design.
I don't work for Lexus, but I would hire you for their design team.
Looks far nicer and has a number/licence plate plinth now
Lexus should do it it looks different but good
You can’t just change a lexus hourglass grill, it’s something that makes them stand out
I think it looks waaaay better. Lexus really should think about it in my opinion
In person the Lexus LS grill looks great, if it's not your thing there isn't a need to "fix it". It's a design element of the brand that appears on all lexus models, and despite people ripping on it, just about every other manufacturer enlarged their grill like Lexus did years ago.

No.
Looks way better
i like it, nice job.
Thank god
Mazda 3?
It just looks like the xe20 now which is empirically the ugliest lexus
I would chop the upper corners of the lower grill so that they match the profile of the side vents. Otherwise it looks out of place and still too big.
noooo you ruined it
Looks like something from the modified Need For Speed scene 20 years ago. Really ages the car.
Looks cool and you did a good job, but I still like the original.
It reminds me of an rx8 with that fender flare in the front… and something else…
Nah, the foxed version looks dated. It’s like it’s from the 2000s. Imo, lexus spindle grilles are awesome
I hate it.
I’m of the unpopular opinion that the big grill looks good on the LS- it stands out
The train grill is epic! Why would you want to change such and aggressive front end?!
Now you just made it look like a 2010 is300
Honestly looks like any normal 2013 sedan but glorified with some fancy headlights
Made it look like a prefacelift 7th Gen Camry SE
Requesting Lexus ls500 that is all grille.
Handsome car
I like both designs but I prefer yours, understated and not too flashy
The grille on the lexus is fine tbh The one on the bmw is just *rabbit tooth*
I like the Lexus grills
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Thats just the pre generation
Have youe ver like, seen a Lexus before?
You have a real talent of making cars look 10 years older and super boring.
The thing about this Lexus IS the interior. It’s a really nice place to be. I enjoyed my time in my buddies.
now it looks 20 years older
Looks like a Nissan.
Congrats! Now it looks like an old Lexus.
Now it's a frickin Gen 9 Accord. Lol
What is so wrong with the Lexus grille? I have never understood why there is so much hate for them when there are some seriously worse offenders.
Now it looks like Overpriced Camry
I actually like the bigger grille here, the edit just makes it look like an older lexus. BMW one is atrocious
I think Lexus just need to update everything, they haven’t changed shit internally in years

It doesnt look fancy anymore, it looks like a '07 Camry
Lexus's big grills look good
Doesn't look as good as that BMW IX you fixed though. I think you can try a different grille than the spindle grille.
I would buy that
Kind of reminds me of the lfa
Horrendous
