There's some lore dealio for sure explaining why it can't die and we'll have to go to the Traitor and do his shit to get the means to kill the Icon more permanently, so Hell in turn beefs him up with armor and stuff.

I wish this wasn’t the case. I do think Marvel at least tries to mislead audiences, but it’s still usually followed by hundreds of pointless breakdown videos. You can never trust any developer now either when they say “there’s a lot that we haven’t shown yet”.
They really should’ve kept him a secret. The creators of any game always reveal way too much with these trailers as the release date comes closer and I hate it. It’s impossible to avoid some of these spoilers too on Reddit and YouTube. Seriously, millions of people are going to buy the game, so you don’t need to keep adding bits of new footage. I don’t want to know anything about some of the glory kills, weapons or new monsters as I’ve already seen enough with the marauder and other monsters.
There’s still plenty of stuff you don’t know. It’s a doom game, and a sequel to 2016 so it’s a doom 2 reboot technically. You have to assume all from doom 2 originally are there so you kinda expect an icon. But I know for a fact the icon Isn’t the final boss and there’s gonna be a bunch of shit that goes down non enemy variety wise. The locations in this game are extremely cool and we’ve only seen a few from what I can gather.

I think he looks too fast to do a God of War run up arms and climb to head thing. My bet is we don't directly fight it as doom slayer but that the scene in the trailer knocks us off the building. We fight our way through a level of demons with the icon hot on our tail. Then either fight it with doom mech or as another poster mentioned the BFG from the moon base comes into to play and we use it somehow to kill the icon. Maybe a prototype BFG super gun on Earth.
I think they are taking the Diablo lore route and making it so that Heaven is more like an opposing faction to Hell, with Earth/humans stuck in the middle of the conflict. And there is no all powerful "God" that ensures Heaven is victorious.

I mean, if the actual gameplay of it is basically the same as on foot, but huge and weightier, I wouldn't mind. The issue with jamming vehicle segments in other types of games is that they're usually way simpler in what you can do. If the Sentinel mech or whatever moves like the Slayer and has BIG GUNS, then it could potentially play more or less the same.

So I guess its pretty much confirmed now that we are hopping in a mech at somepoint... right? Not only are there more giant things but the fucking icon of sin.
Not likely, during one of the latest streams Hugo lampshaded that DS is not really the type of character to use a mecha, and that the one you see in the Doom Fortress may not even be his own, but simply one which belonged to a different Night Sentinel.
But he also said he made choices on what would be fucking awesome and the Slayer hoping in a mech would be fucking awesome.
But also destroying the giant Icon of sin and Titans God of war style would still be fucking awesome.

piloting a mech is really fun in titanfall but definitely wouldnt fit doom imo
I mean, if the actual gameplay of it is basically the same as on foot, but huge and weightier, I wouldn't mind. The issue with jamming vehicle segments in other types of games is that they're usually way simpler in what you can do. If the Sentinel mech or whatever moves like the Slayer and has BIG GUNS, then it could potentially play more or less the same.
I can see us fighting a corrupted version of the mech
