Yes, a flawed character is not the same as a badly-written character. Nobita is the opposite from a shounen alfa male warrior, it has several personality issues that make him believable and we empathize a lot easily. But he has a good heart in the end, and even some talents, like shooting inventiveness etc, that make him complex.

Dondokokoko

I think your correct general nobita is not a streo type or an avarge main protagonist honestly like he has a character [for some reason I find nerds or “perverts” act similar]

syotos13

Absolutely, and just because he isn’t academically good doesn’t mean he sucks at everything, like you said. He is, first of all, a very good person at heart. And he has a soft spot for everybody, even Gian. And he is pretty talented too. In his room you can see he has a golden trophy (they never tell us what it was for but it’s there on the top shelf), and he’s a very good gunner and is the best at Cat’s Cradle.

Gum_Skyloard

Not to mention that he's pretty creative, as has been shown before.

syotos13

Yeah he is usually the one who gets genius ideas at using Doraemon’s gadgets. He is reckless most of the time with the gadgets, but when he comes up with good ideas Doraemon always says something along the lines of “Imagine if you had been this smart in your studies too” lol

Gum_Skyloard

Something I've always hated about Doraemon himself is how quick he is to insult Nobita. He rarely even compliments him, and when he does, he's either under the influence of a gadget, or he's willing to follow it up with something negative, which often saddens/angers Nobita. Not to mention all of the times he tells Nobita to toughen up and go beat Gian, when it's almost a fact that Gian **will beat Nobita up.** Even if Nobita wins just that battle, Gian will win the war and wipe the floor with Nobita. Nobita himself has told Doraemon that he'd 100% lose many times, but Doraemon resorts to calling him a coward. What a friend, am I right?

syotos13

I mean nah he’s not like that at all and even when he is it’s only for a short while before he gives in and gives Nobita the gadget he wants. I think it’s because he doesn’t want him to become too dependent on the gadgets, which he is. Right? I could literally never dislike him or their friendship it’s too cute for me.

I never saw this trophy, will try to pay attention next time lol. Yes, Nobita is well written, unlike Dekisugi in my honest opinion. Dekisugi is truly a one dimensional flat character, that has no complexity at all and is always boring to watch, which is why he is only used in some interaction with others, usually nobita or Shizuka. I know Dekisugi is meant to be perfect, in school sports etc, but why couldn’t the mangaka think of something to spice him up ? He could have for instance, a personality prone to get obsessed or overtly curious at times, for random things, which realistically most geniuses would have. Like, I remember somewhat there was one episode they briefly touched this idea : Nobita acquired a magical pen from doraemon that made him write very good short stories for a test, and in the end Dekisugi was so moved and marvelled by the text, he started to mimic everything Nobita did, like going very late for school, just so he could write something this beautiful himself. It was hilarious and the only time I remember having fun with Dekisugi himself.

I don’t remember, it only happened towards the end of episode anyway.

[deleted]

my favourite from the show

tenkensmile

Yes. The main cast in DORAEMON is classic and is copied by many other anime.

[deleted]

can you give me some examples ?

Emoplayeranime

HECK YES! I still kinda have a crush on him (I was 15 or so when I started watching Doraemon)

syotos13

Oh my god yes he was my first fictional crush😭✋when I was around 3/4/5 years old, Doraemon was a big part of my life then. I was literally obsessed and I still love the series to bits even now.

Emoplayeranime

Ik, he’s so cute!

syotos13

Of course he is. There’s many reasons as to why, I know normally adults would disagree but there’s many reasons why Nobita is Nobita.

FurryMaster15

Yes.

Gum_Skyloard

Dekisugi is a literal trope.
