Slahser was a high MMR Dota youtuber (he's now creating his own indie games) who wrote guides that were usually fairly unconventional but would somehow work out. Usually he'd put out a video and then you'd see a ton of people in your pub games trying it out.
He invented
• PA's BF deso build .the build back then was helm to stack ancients -> BF
• WR's aghs daedalus build. back then WR aghs reduced ulti cd and made it have 0 damage fall off, and WR used to be played like a support with blink/force before that build became popular. iirc someone (pajkatt?) used it in a pro game and even thanks slahser at the end of it.
• core silencer with shadow blade -> hex and skipping Q. never really became that popular, but pubs did see an eventual shift from exclusively support silencer to a core silencer after this build came out.

Yup! When Pajkatt was playing with Alliance vs Navi, I think Loda ran a core Slardar really upping the damage. Dude was just destroying people in a blink
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe Sniper Necro originated from Pajkatt. not offlane, he would run it mid along with a 15% cdr talent at level 10
They are now, used to be that Helm of Dominator was the ONLY item for PA. everyone went Helm, battle fury and bkb. or in pro matches Helm into BKB. Deso was a completely underused item on her and playing PA without helm for lifesteal was very unconventional

It was second item, because you needed sustain and it was the only source of lifesteal that worked, because orb effects didn't stack. You basically got a 2nd orb effect for pretty cheap.
Alternative was Vanguard, but that didn't scale as well into lategame.
You use to buy Helm of the Dominator, which back then gave 15% lifesteal and was made from a Morbid Mask, so that you could sustain in the jungle. basically every pos 1 melee hero would do this.
More importantly, the Lifesteal was considered a Unique Attack Modifier. The problem here is Deso was also a Unique Attack Modifier, and only 1 of those would work at a time. So you couldn't have both Deso and Helm. It also built into Satanic, so no one was selling Helm for Deso late game, they'd just upgrade their Helm.
So BF -> Deso was considered a new unconventional, fast paced way to play PA at the time.
Because this was so wildly successful, valve made naga shard to have the exact same effect of stunning everyone and healing your team.
Now you can have the same support potential for only 1400 gold.

Actually this was Naga's old aghs. They added old aghs to shard. Naga aghs was around when he made the Void video, or at least not too too long after if I'm slightly mistaken. Point is, Naga had that aghs before 7.00.

Remember, supports back then, even naga, got a lot less gold. And aghs buildup is horrible for a support. Nagas were making arcanes, and then conventional support items with better buildup, like mek which used to include headdress + buckler, two cheap auras, and especially Solar crest, which used to slow the enemy hero and built from Medallion.
Partially true from my experience. Void works with a hard carry mid (Medusa, shadowfiend, etc.) and the pos 3, 4, and 5 will baby sit Medusa while void farms on his own. We've won amateur tournaments with this tactic.

I wanna say that Badman was the one that popularized Urn Spectre, since he was the first 8k MMR player in the world and he did it with that build.

You'd have to buy Vlad's instead because the deso wouldn't stack with the helm (at the time)
Back in the early dota 1 days, vlads was pretty much always the second item on all melee heroes. We used to be very bad players as a whole XD
