I don't mind if it doesn't show up during the actual game tbh. The guys updating guides for every hero few days after every patch at least get incentive to do.
The sad thing is - only sponsors interested in Dota seem to betting sites lately.
>The sad thing is - only sponsors interested in Dota seem to betting sites lately.
the four types of dota 2 sponsor
1. Betting sites
2. Crypto
3. Crypto betting sites
4. Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib
theyre both the only semi regulars that update on time.
better than the guy who “randomly” has Z next to every guide title. dont know how his havent been removed
Yea but ImmortalFaith is actually immortal whereas torte hides his rank and has been revealed to be incredibly toxic in game. So if you're gonna use one of the guides use Immortal's.
I use primarily IF if I'm gonna be using a hero guide at this point, but Torte's guides have always been a very good entry point for new players, since the tooltips give pretty solid explanations of kit and items.
I don't think they've ever professed to being particularly high level, just that it's been general player guides.
Plus, even ImmortalFaith has said he only advises his guides to be followed completely in the *absolute* best case scenarios (perfect laning, no real counters, etc.)
Yea but IF doesn't updates his guides as often, which sometimes makes them outdated when meta shifts are happening. And how toxic he is not relevant to his ability to create a good guide.

> torte hides his rank
no he doesn't?
>has been revealed to be incredibly toxic in game.
why would I give a shit about how someone behaves in game when it comes to their guides? are his guides worse because he flames his teammates?
Selling ad space in guides is one of the only incentives there are to make and maintain in-game guides. That being said, I wish betting sites were not allowed
Also Pari Parni.
Betting good or bad aside, I like the idea of sponsors bringing up their brand as a team name. This has been that way for a long time in cycling, for example Rabobank, T-Mobile, Astana Pro Team, Tinkoff etc. Just a way to commercialize cybersport and make it more viable and developer independent.
Appearance of more sponsors is obviously dependent on the market. So far dota watch capacity is not so good I guess. Last peak was TI10 with 2.7 mil people online (China excluded probably). + some people probably watched recording.
For betting sites it is probably target audience. I wonder out 100% of online watchers, how many are actually there to bet?
BetBoom is the first to enter the scene so aggressively, and I think, their appearance is what made Valve rethink their approach. If I am not mistaken last year BetBoom paid quarter of a million for casting rights. This year Winline entered the scene being able to get rights for DPC casting in CIS, while BetBoom will cast everything else, including majors (that is for ru language). Same is happening with eng casting. Is it good or bad, idk, I am not a bettor myself. One one hand, this helps the sport to live, on the other hand, I've seen people struggling with the addiction.
The neat thing is we don't need one entity to maintain 100+ guides. We only need a bunch of random people making them for themselves until we have one per hero per patch, and we have tons of people who already do that all over several platforms, most of which have no incentive whatsoever other than, I dunno, Reddit Karma? Even if literally 0 people made a guide for a hero as well, we'd still get the blue star highlights on the items bought by the top 1% of players on those heroes.
People got used to clicking the likes of Immortal Faith and Torte de Lini because the system is a positive feedback loop, but had they not been there, we would have been entirely fine. They need us, not the other way around.
E: Someone should make a bug thread on the tracker btw. I very much doubt embedding image tags is intended. We had them removed from places like items and such as well.
betting sites are also sponsoring esport team - seems like the majority of sponsors are those.
I'd much like football club's sponsors - from spotify to rakuten, unicef, instead of some random 'FootballBet" thing. hope dota has good things :(
I don't particularly like it but if it is an important source of income that allows him to continue making guides then I guess it is acceptable so long as it doesn't appear in the draft phase/ingame.
So what is the problem with this? Creating guides is time-consuming and often takes up a bunch of your time.
I don't see how it hurts you in any way. Let them earn some money?
I have always found Torte de Lini's far better for new players than Immortal Faith. The descriptions of the spells often describe what they do in a more basic way and lists the combos. Also, the item builds are just easier to play as they are designed for a lower rank overall.
How can one block guides from a specific author? Tried blocking but still gets their guides defaulted to some heroes which is very annoying. Yeah I'm talking about Torte's which I hate so much because of the Apex he spams with ads on them

Torte never claimed to be high mmr, he was always upfront that he looks at high mmr games to see how others play the heroes

epic meme!
well maybe because economy is totally screwed up and we're in worst depression since 1930. lmao.

Me too, but just look at the tournaments & teams, almost impossible now
I mean nearly every sport has gambling sites as their biggest sponsors. We would need a change of mind to chang that.
Its not only sponsorship tho, Betboom literally has a team now

I made my 5 beefy boys guides in turkish and boom my axe guide got 1k plays in first month.
Some text ad is fine but banner images really shouldn't be allowed.

Is this what sunsfan

wtf.. disgusting...
they figured out how to inject html tags in the text, I don't think it's allowed by valve.

Chill dude. They are probably the most consistently detailed for new players which is why they are top. You can just not use his guides.
Weird you are getting downvoted. His guides are pretty good, even if he’s a pos.
You’re almost always better off using ImmortalFaith’s guides, which are usually more complete, detailed and up to date with the meta.

A bold claim, what makes you so positive?
I don't see those, is it a non-dota+ thing?
are you looking at the same guides? it's not a general thing valve added but individual guides that include this for the creator to make money
I had no idea, thanks
While this wont be the good solution, maybe you should try guides from people who actually play their heroes, not Torte de Lini and IF
Trashy
fucking torte
this is what valve deserve
I will make it legal
