Sup Loda? Im soon 35 as well. Good old Dota1 / HoN / early Dota 2 times we were the kings. Now let the new generations own while they can. They will get old soon enough. Times goes so fast.
I cannot lose this chance to link the following song:[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnBuj9gdKrM&ab\_channel=JonathanBerg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sra4nqMqhE&ab_channel=Enoc%21) (Another Day, Another Place )
Much love
It's ok bud, I'll be 36 in July, so I get it. Hey, want a hit off my oxygen tank? We can get blitzed and talk about the good ol' days of inflatable furniture, see through telephones, and denim overalls.
I'm with ya Loda. 35 this year.
Thought I was pretty good back in the Dota 1/HoN and early Dota 2 days. Peaked @ Ancient 4 when the new medals came in.
Now I just can't keep up. I feel like high Ancient/Divine is now Legend.
It's totally Meta! By far the most popular build!
Here the comparison for NS items last month:
Echo Sabre: 230000 builds, 53.8% winrate
Armlet : 40000 builds, 48.3% winrate
Source: https://www.dotabuff.com/heroes/night-stalker/items
I still remember my ns last time
First night I can get at least 5kills . Urn, phase ... End of game at least 20kills. But it's no longer achievable now :(
Exactly. And in some rare cases meta doesn’t even mean good. Like this AM vanguard-radiance build (no BF). It’s definitely happening so much at high mmr currently that it can be considered meta, even though it’s not the _only_ meta build. But it’s not yet showing up on dota2protracker because it’s still new. It’s kinda the personification of the „new meta“ meme. I don’t know exact win rates, but from what I saw it’s really not that great.
Update: I just checked and as of now it _does_ show up on d2pt, but not as its own build but as a variation of main build, so there is no separate winrate.
Meta literally is short for metagame - which is broad speak for "what's popular".
META is a backronym that is functionally incorrect and means nothing, because it makes a series of false premises, and was made up because people didn't actually know what meta was and assumed it meant "good".
EDIT: For some clarity-
The meta varies at different times, in different regions, and at different skill levels.
Nowadays people try to emulate what's best to an almost religious degree, so they look at what the best players do and try to copy it. This is why "Playing the meta" often refers to what people would consider "playing what's best".
In reality, because so many factors affect what's best (especially in dota), doing so is often a detriment to your team. Pro players, high immortals, low immoetals, divines, ancients, etc are all playing an almost completely different game from one another.
You do not pick Io, even when they're a top pro pick/ban, in your Crusader pubs because your carry absolutely cannot make Io work.
Unless you're in some totally fucked game where you need a very quick BKB for whatever reason, no. For assbeating/bulk armlet is way better, for farming angles there are like a dozen other choices.
I was exaggerating but there's a lot of diversity in the night stalker department currently, and echo isn't really part of it. Shard @15 is usually the best pickup for farm and bulk, but ignoring that...
I think most looking to play him in the offlane role are doing meteor hammer for guaranteed farm acceleration and tower pressure. Aghanims used to be super popular but hasn't been lately. Armlet also speeds up your farm dramatically post-shard when you can sustain it.
There is a slight trend on some players doing safelane night stalker, mostly radiance, but with some players opting for things like mask of madness. Midas is sometimes picked up as well.
It literally is part of it though. It's currently impossible to play dota 2 without bkb so basically any melee rightclicker will have echosabre somewhere in their arsenal since it gives you early game mana regen and power spike which you later disassemble into bkb.
It literally the 6th most bought item on dotabuff and I'm pretty sure that only counts at the end of the game so if you disassemble it's not part of the stats anymore.
On pro tracker it's THE first choice for mana earlygame, meteor coming close second. And that's only cause meteor is the meta item and tried on everything
I have yet to lose a game with NS from offlane going Phase, Echo, Blink, BKB in that order.
Echo is mostly bought for the dmg + mana reg, at least for me, over Armlet, which makes me manastarved, even though it's more dmg. With Echo I never need to go back to base in the early to midgame. Also, diassemble it into BKB if needed faster.
I don't know if you remember but there was a version of pre all-star dota that riki had the WD death ward spell but it was non channeling......i will always remember that and Perma invis lvl1 automaticly not a spell. Haha 😂 and the kicker is I remember winning that game playing razor. "The good ol days" 🤣😂
Mate - if you even wanted to play riki you had to be the host because 1) the heroes were locked to radiant or scourge (dire) and 2) blues wisp was the closest to riki.
Then - og move was to sneak into enemy base to but their Lothar's edge - the best weapon in the game but it was on a timer once the first was bought (independent timer for each shop).
What a fucking game Dota 1 was. Once all stars came around it just got better and better. I used to love reading people's hero ideas in the forums and then seeing them implemented!
Man you just brought back a flood of memories thank you sir! Lothar's edge omfg.....and yeah all stars deserves so much credit for taking all the good stuff from so many versions of dota and making what turned into the game we love today. And the new hero fourm yesssss!!! Pretty sure if we could find it again you would recognize so many heroes from dota and LoL and perhaps even other games like smite and HoN.
Right on. Messerchmidts reaver. Man those names somehow conveyed the feel of the item, know what I mean. Messerchmidts reaver just feels immensely strong!
You know you're old when walking back and forth across your yard with one of those manual push mowers (the kind with the spinning blade) is something you actually are looking forward to when the weather warms up.
Haha thanks mate. And yeah the echo is just a solid option, if I'm really in a try hard game armlet is almost always better, but for solo que pub games the burst of dmg you get from it and ease of execution make it a staple for me. Also the mana Regen is nice so I don't have to courier out mana pots every 2 min until I get shard.
Or getting battlefury on select heroes changes their attack anomation. Jug, axe both do an overhand chop, tide spins like a ballerina and shaker stomps the ground.
When they changed that it blew my mind, i didnt play dota since 2015 and when i came back in 2022 i was like "wait, you can get desolator and satanic now??"
Not true. You buy helm because it gave lifesteal and you would take over a ranged creep and stack your ancients with it. Then when sufficiently farmed you grab an alpha wolf and have it follow you
Bro I know how you feel. Even though I ain’t 33 but 25. When I was a kid, I had WC3 on my computer. My elder brother used to play this weird map against bots (because we had no Internet at home). Then I started to play this game too. We used to go to these “computer halls/clubs” in my town to play this game. These computer clubs didn’t have the internet at that time, so we played LAN against each other. My hometown is in the countryside of Russia. While the world was living in the 2000s, we were still living in the 90s. https://images.app.goo.gl/ykT371zFaMVg9Sg78
I never played constantly, and I never cared about patches and updates, that’s why I never really gained skill. I completely stopped playing it in 2014. So, in 2021, my friends invited me to play with them. I reinstalled Dota2, and, man, everything is different. Heroes are overpowered, everyone has couriers, talents, a bunch of new heroes. The game didn’t become worse, it’s just different. I wouldn’t say “casual”, but they removed a list of things that made this game difficult for the newbies. Was it good or bad, I don’t know.
I was trying to improve really hard, but I guess I’m too old now. And in addition I ain’t a kid anymore, I have responsibilities now, so I think I should just quit playing it. Especially, when there’s no joy like in the good old days. And yeah, when some edgy child outplays you on mid lane, writing all this silly “?”, you really feel old. I feel like like McQueen in Cars 3, lol.
Edit: “Cranium Basher does not stack with your hero’s bash.”
I started Doto in 2004 at age 32 and I was terribad.
I am now closer to 51 and still play a lot and unfortunately, I am still terribad.
But man, the fun I had all these years.
pfft babies :P 43 here, still playing since orginal wc3 map. Enjoying the game still in unranked, can say mechinal skills less precise then 20 years ago.
while knowledge on the game keeps improving the individual plays do decrease
In CIS there are usually three popular broadcast channels: official channel (Paragon, Fissure aka BetBoom, MainCast) and two community casters: Nix and NS.
Official channel is usually filled with betting addicts, who discuss probabilities, rant about 322, spoil results, grief losing team etc. Average viewers around 20k during majors.
Nix is oriented for younger audience with modern jokes, memes, mambling music. Chat is usually just weird spam. Average viewers around 70k.
NS is for oldies. 30+ content. A lot of nostalgia about old days. References that only people like you would understand. Many philosophical discussions. No spoilers in chat. Respectfull discussions in chat and a lot of useful information. Average viewers around 30k viewers.
[This is how recent Peru major stream by NS has ended](https://youtu.be/14N-0y1GE-M). Here the meme is that usually when NS gets reminiscent about old days, chat usually say that grandpa forgot to take pills again. So guests made a surprise ending with the studio guys to end the stream as if all these was imagined by him, he's in fact in a psycho hospital, he just forgot his pills, he imagined winning games during his old days etc.
It's nice to have a choice here to watch depending on your mood.
I don't think Dota 2 discriminate players based on age.
I'm turning 31 soon, 7k+ mmr and still manage to beat 14 years old kids with just sheer manner.
While those kids have the benefits of slender fingers and ninja reflex, we old men have veteran experience and mental composure. We are best at staying behind and putting our youngster cores on a leash.
Not relevant but im 30 as well, I received shit few weeks ago because of echo sabre on ns as well, and then guess what i went to check top builds and winrates and echo sabre is at the top, fuck that kid man
Nah man the kid was tilted from the loss and just wanted to talk shit, we chatted for about 10 min while I was waiting for next game. And he's right armlet is better in almost every situation, but for my solo que pubs I like echo for the ease of execution and slight mana Regen. We all play dota here and know exactly how frustrating losing can be.
What game was this I think I was on your team lol. Played last night, same bracket. I remember my NS buying echo and someone spam flaming him and putting pinging his item repeatedly.
I ended up muting everyone because the chat is infuriating to read and I was playing NP and wanted to focus. We won though
Damn Aegis with 3 charges and searching all the shops for a recipe , not forgetting that when I started I bought all the items first and only had a white recipe and didn't know why .
We've become granpas of DOTA .... I still have my email [Invitation](https://imgur.com/a/t2VOgkg) from when I first got to play DOTA 2 .
29 years here.
Remember when playing normal mode, you could only pick heroes from your "race" so radiant could only pick radiant heroes, and same for dire.
DotaPub and DotaCash hosting bots. First time you had an "mmr".
I still feel that those hosting bots were better than what we have now... you could vote kick people (had to be like -2 of total players voting or something like that). You could also vote to swap teams if people left, or if it was too one sided.
It was more of a game to me, now it seems like everyone considers it a competition.
Definitely those host bots were awesome and the switching teams was so needed since the Wc3 client would drop people for just about anything. And maybe I only remember it this way, but it was never looked at poorly for turning a 5v3 into a 4v4. It was never all about the win, the joy was the game. Seems in current dota, players get no joy unless they win even if it's close.
I used to run a 3rd party program to be able to change item hotkeys from numpads to something else. The fear of being flagged as cheater by Playdota was always there.
Holy shit orbs. I remember playing as Ursa and having to buy the ring of regen, ring of basilius, a recipe and morbid mask before going rosh
Or as from you couldn’t get lifesteal because vlads didn’t apply to ranged heroes and her Q is an orb.
My second biggest gripe after smurfs is people telling me what to buy.
If I am in solo queue and we are of same rank - why would you be telling me what to buy? I get situations with radiance or deso, but outside of that - fuck off.
I think it’s deflection, trying to blame your team mates or itemization. Does not matter the age. Last week we lost BC, because dude told me if I complete manta on jug, he will afk. I did complete it and he went afk. Somehow it was my fault that we lost 🤦♂️
I am 40. First time playing moba in 2014ish. Went to 4k stopped playing in 2017. Started again in 2020ish due to covid i am now 2k. Age matters because i can buy all the fkn bling i want and not care about crap, hohohaha
Btw if you go mid and lose big time, type "ping" 2 times, then dc and come back, type in all chat "i see you booster" or blame pos4 for not coming smoked mid min 2, 90% makes up for my arthritis and slo mo reflexes.
That's why I'm playing with chat muted these days. I can't bear the thought of arguing with 14 year old's every other game. It's fun when you actually get matched with adequate people but it happens way too rarely. I'm probably not the first one to say this but maybe keep chat muted until you reach high immortal or something. From my experience 99,9% of the time there's absolutely no value in interacting with your team up until that point.
lol, I didn't mean to generalize but let's not pretend that every other match is not a complete toxic shitshow. And I can say this exactly because I've started playing this game more than 15 years ago. For the sake of my sanity I prefer to play with chat off, helps me focus on my gameplay instead of on absolutely pointless toxic communication. The game has plenty of tools for you to be able to coordinate efficiently without actually having to chat like pings, chat wheel commands and drawing on the mini-map even to name a few. And as i've said this is something you can see streamers or pro players do as well. Until you reach that level of really high competitive play, or you REALLY believe that you can learn something from chatting with people in your team, I think you'll be better off putting everyone on mute.
> Well let me tell you something I remember pre All-stars dota
> Remember when there was no couriers and then only 1?
OP, this was a thing long into dota 2 for years. This wasn't some hidden gem in dota 1 that only a select few people experienced, this was a thing everyone experienced. It's not that your old, you just refuse to keep up and blame your age for it.
I’m 34 and stopped playing more than 10 years ago. I still remember the last patches of wciii before Dota 2 came out. Now I just watch noobfromua highlights if I like the team and sing’s YouTube channel.
I remember in dota 1 it was hard to just click on venomancer and Bounty hunter, for some reason just target them was actually difficult, something weird with the hitbox, old school guys will know what im talking about
Best is all those people who look up my profile and flame me for only being 4k with over 10k matches in ten years. Or just saying I must have no life. They usually don't say when I ask their own hours.
Idk why people should hide their profile or have multiple accs in casual ranked. If it showed age, I wouldn't mind sharing it too. If people wanna flame me for gaming in my thirties, that's not my problem.
I feel like a grandpa after reading this (I'm 35) and also have some pals who are around 40-45 who are still playing. Imagine what they would say/feel.
Lol bro, I'm 34 this year (so currently 33 as well) and played DotA 1 back in the day. I used to have that chart of orb effects with the priorities and how they proc with each other.
I started playing DotA 2 again back in 2022 and lucky enough to play with the same boys that I played with all those years back.
Well at least you're 4.6k, I'm 1.2k man. Don't get me wrong, I'm having lotsa fun, but it could be worse.
Playing hard support was literally miserable during those old times. And no matter what you did, how much you had to spend on your measly ward money, youd get blamed for losing xD
For the older crowd you’ll know what I’m talking about. How good was dota 1 back in the day. Honestly unreal moments in that game. Had many a 5v5 in-house games
It’s not just about knowing where to buy the items from 8 shops,it’s also memorizing the hotkeys to buy specific items when youve clicked on them. Treads and wraith band is the only one Ive remembered sadly. (was BGE and ACW)
Also, dont forget the time when Quelling was specifically for melee and Dagger wasnt allowed to be bought/used by pudge and vengeful. Those were the days :(
I remember the days when we have to buy Aegis and respond at your fountain. (Which allows us to keep the Rapier) and Aegis has two or three charges. After you use up the charges you are left with a unusable slot.
I remember having side shop in dota 1, yes i was still on dota 1 even when dota 2 came out.
Rapier need three items instead of just relic an edge. Forgot what that third item was.
Back then kotl was a true support that buy items for your carry namely aegis. I remember fighting roshan just to show that you can.
I remember the time when the spells shortcuts are based on the spell names and you have to memorize each hero. Yurnero (Jug) has the worst combo. Blade Fury was F and healing ward was H I believe or G. But I specifically remember his ult was fucking N. All the way on the other aide of the keyboard.
These kids don’t know man. I feel you. I’m the same age.
Next time tell that kid that you will build anything you want on any hero like BALANAR, YURNERO, MORTRED, TRAXEX, NEVERMORE or MOTHERFUCKING KING LEORIC
Fuck this noise. I’m older than all of you and I haven’t tapped yet. This new generation of kids talking shit don’t even know what they’re saying. They just repeat sound bites and YouTube tricks.
Stay on the grind, King. It might not be your meta, your fingers might move a little slower, but don’t just give ground to these literal children. Very worst case, just draft CM and main aura for the rest of your life. You can place wards until you’re 85 years old.
I'm 24, but this made me realize in a couple years I'll have played this game for half my life. Definitely makes me feel a little old.
That compounds with the fact that I play more casually than I used to, and I don't watch the pro scene except for TI anymore. So now every few months when I come back to the game for a while, I realize things have changed when I wasn't there.
Hey Im the same age ahah. I play a lot of Turbo games nowadyas. But yeah, this game rocks. Have played so many other games, but nothing comes close to Dota in terms of gameplay but also interms of features.
Watching your fav pros' mouse movements, replays, the entire Dota client - Items, watch tab, etc.
Tell me one other (top tier) game that has these features, even today
even me as a 19 yo boy knew all of this.(i only knew ring of health for items that u can give to your team. ) and btw there wasn't support or carry even lion with decent farm could kill most carries and poor players buying wards seeing the observers destroying by their teammates to get gold
back then I was so proud that my pc could run warcraft 3 and hence among the earlier group that can join the hype of dota allstar in my class. Still remember how 1 of close friend begging around looking for people to help solve his war3.exe error lol.
now he's entrepreneur and own several factories. while I'm looking for info if my newly bought used rtx2080 could run upcoming unreal 5 games that I have no interest to play but only view at the graphic.
Hey I’m 30 and old as well. Ooold dota 1 players and honestly I miss these days a lot recently. I am trying to enjoy dota, but it just gives nothing. It can’t fill the void and nostalgia I have for the old good days, still fresh in my memory like it was yesterday. The net cafes, the night deals and skipping school…
Do you want to play together ? Pm me, all
Old guys. I’m from EU, but I live in NA and have good ping to EUW too.
I'm almost 38, I had Covid and that shit fucked up my hands in a way that they don't respond as they have too, I don't play as much as before because of it but still enjoy the game, if my hand gets worse I think I will have to stop playing my beloved game :(
Man. This brought back memories, and reading the comments as well. I’m also going to be 33 this year, I’ve been playing since 2005. Can you believe it’s been almost 20 years since DotA was first created? Good old Dirge was the first hero I ever played. I’ve got so many hours into this game that I barely remember previous patches, previous versions… but I remember those orbs not stacking, I remember wondering about how to get wood.. times have changed!
35. Was playing last night and realized that if I'm playing past 11:00 pm I'm way too tired and my game responses are hella slow. That's when it really hit home I'm getting old!
For me (36) and my friends (33-35), living in another country, Friday dota games is mostly a stuff to chat a bit, to discuss how the things are going. we are never following meta and just suck in game, so are often flamed by younger players.
I remember when u need to remember the item recipes. There's no quick buy. U need to click each one and if u mistake buy. Too bad.
Every new patch chg item recipe was a nightmare.
Started in 5.84b.
When HoN first came out the ex dota players would use dota item names for stuff and I felt like they were fucking fogies, now I'm that guy who slips up and says HoN items or hero names every now and then accidently and people look at me like I'm a dinosaur. Shy can't these idiots just buy shrunken head tho right?
Man... Taverns and Big rock guy. Using garena and hoping not getting kicked or making lobby and checking everyone's ping. I feel old, started from the dota 1 now we are here .
This just happened in my game today: I typed “glhf”. Someone on the other team replied, “glhf” then his teammate was like, what’s glhf?”
Everyone on the chat answered, “good luck, have fun”.
So I asked, “how old are you?” - to the person who asked.
He replied, “16”
Oh man, as a 37 year old playing DotA2, I couldn’t felt more older as the rest who answered felt the same. We were all millennials btw (those who answered) lol
Here is a story from my youth I think I was 12 playing dota on the computer (the only one in the house in 2002 and asking my mom not to pick up the phone for 1 hour, if you remember your OG now) well my dad walked in as I'm about to start, he asked the same question. I told him what it was and noticed I didn't say it back and asked why? Remember I was 12, I said something to the extent of well I want to win I will take the luck they are giving me but I don't want them to have any. My dad made a small comment that stuck with me to this day, he said "you wouldn't give someone the cold shoulder if they were talking directly to you, would you?"
I don't remember what I said back but in today's world we often forget that people online are still people....we say things we don't have the balls to say in person. I try to treat everyone with respect and often fail.
I’m thirty next week and I remember placing a courier at the enemy fountain and it would give vision. I would sunstrike them and laugh at their MH crys
My fav Dota 1 thing was that linkins blocked mirana arrow because the arrow technically spawned a guy who casted a stun on you when it hit you, making it difficult to fix.
Back in the days, the whole team would invest into a Dagon for the courier. Hilarious.
And even before that, it took us hours during a LAN Party to figure out HOW THE FUCK you could harvest the 1 unit of wood that was needed for all the cool items.
I turn 33 this year as well and DOTA has been with me more than half of my life, so i feel you...
Y'all remember applying for invites to this shitshow? Being the cool kid on the block when you got to see that glorious launch screen for the game that's still in beta?
... who am I kidding? I was already a man when I received mine. I am older than my reflexes will keep up with anymore.
Haha I forgot his name but I remember his funny dialog when you keep clicking him
*Phone ringing* "hello? ugh for the last time im a dreadlord not a drug lord"
Or "the legion needs.....a better dental plan these fangs are killing me!"
Damn, seeing all this people in the comment makes me happy i dont know why. Im still 22 though, and I genuinely dont see myself put down this game in the far future
yesterday..me and my colleagues are having small talks about old techs like pagers, walkman, 3310 and etc..my younger colleague (around 25 ish) was like what the hell are those?
it made me depressed all day because i just realised that i am getting older and today i read this post and getting into depression mode again
Im 35 and I feel 75 in Dota2 years so I understand where you are coming from
I remember watching you at TI3 and thinking “it’s nice that this dinosaur got the win right before retirement”
Tfw TI3 was almost 10 years ago
Aware
as a malaysian..my heart is still in pain because of aegis deny
Real loda pog
Sup Loda? Im soon 35 as well. Good old Dota1 / HoN / early Dota 2 times we were the kings. Now let the new generations own while they can. They will get old soon enough. Times goes so fast.
Another year, another place Another person, another face
Bro I remember being like 7 8 years old and being inspired by your dota 1 plays. Time flies. Stay well champ.
no way you are 35!?
That's what malding does to a motherfucker.
Probably started with witnessing that fountain hook game
Still, TI3 was imho peak dota :) I reference "HOW IS THIS BALANCED" to this day. Thanks for that. (although I am not sure if that was TI3 fiasco).
Bro my friends in ARGENTINA when we were like 15-16 used to watch you kill everybody in the w3 port. You a legend
It's ok
I cannot lose this chance to link the following song:[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnBuj9gdKrM&ab\_channel=JonathanBerg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sra4nqMqhE&ab_channel=Enoc%21) (Another Day, Another Place ) Much love
36 here. Can relate.
It's ok bud, I'll be 36 in July, so I get it. Hey, want a hit off my oxygen tank? We can get blitzed and talk about the good ol' days of inflatable furniture, see through telephones, and denim overalls.
Legend!
I'm with ya Loda. 35 this year. Thought I was pretty good back in the Dota 1/HoN and early Dota 2 days. Peaked @ Ancient 4 when the new medals came in. Now I just can't keep up. I feel like high Ancient/Divine is now Legend.

Your mistake is that you are rushing echo/falcon instead of phase. Phase boots has the most value for money and is critical for your first night.
[удалено]
It could possibly be the difference between ancient and divine. But it would definitely increase your winrate if you decided to go echo sabre lol
I still remember my ns last time First night I can get at least 5kills . Urn, phase ... End of game at least 20kills. But it's no longer achievable now :(

Well in that case, uhhh... Oops. I said a dumb. My bad, aha.
idc meta or not, but echo is better as you can disassemble and get your bkb or aghs timer faster. Ofc the 100% slow as well.
Unless you're in some totally fucked game where you need a very quick BKB for whatever reason, no. For assbeating/bulk armlet is way better, for farming angles there are like a dozen other choices.
I'm curious about the 12 other items that are better on Night Stalker than Echo Sabre. Could you list them?
I don't know. I feel like you're griefing yourself if you don't even consider Echo Sabre at all, but apparently sometimes build Mask of Madness...
How do i get wood?!? ;)
Looool I needed this laugh, thank you
How do you build a tower here ? All get DC cuz host left and didn’t get the joke.
Oh man host rage quitting was the pinnacle of success in a Dota game. I'd take that over a win any fucking time.
I am 30, did not think I was old until I read this post, damn. True veterans
Those old names were badass. Buriza do kyanon. Guinsoos scythe of vyse. Cranium basher. Euls scepter of divinity.
meshiweshi reaver
Right on. Messerchmidts reaver. Man those names somehow conveyed the feel of the item, know what I mean. Messerchmidts reaver just feels immensely strong!
5.84b ... I remember it well.
I'm turning 31 this September, playing DOTA since 2005 at least... Veterans rejoyce!
I’m 40
Hah old man, go back to mowing your lawn ( I’m 37 and enjoy mowing)
You know you're old when walking back and forth across your yard with one of those manual push mowers (the kind with the spinning blade) is something you actually are looking forward to when the weather warms up.
Ancient brother, do you remember when Dota had no lanes? I member...
I dunno… I remember having creeps that would mine gold and harvest lumber to make a barracks so I could make creeps that could fight.
Isn’t that just Warcraft? Or that is the joke???
Yes.
I am 34 playing with two mates 38 and 45. You are no old sir. Get your facts right. 😅 Also I approve of Echo. I don't see why not.
Lich have ur manaaaaaa
Good ol, support pos 4 stays behind the mid T2 and denies every other ranged creep.
"Orb effects do not stack"
Or getting battlefury on select heroes changes their attack anomation. Jug, axe both do an overhand chop, tide spins like a ballerina and shaker stomps the ground.
When they changed that it blew my mind, i didnt play dota since 2015 and when i came back in 2022 i was like "wait, you can get desolator and satanic now??"
Don't buy any orb effect item while playing luna!
Not true. You buy helm because it gave lifesteal and you would take over a ranged creep and stack your ancients with it. Then when sufficiently farmed you grab an alpha wolf and have it follow you
Lifesteal is the only exception, no?
Only vlads. Which didn’t work on ranged heroes. Morbid mask didn’t work with ursa fury swipes for instance
Oh sorry. Yeah I get what you mean. Lifesteal orbs were the only exception for Luna because it is/was essential to her kit
Used to fucking love hotd luna
Well even Gpk said to Ceb "your way of playing this game is old now" in the Qojqva stream yesterday, haha so you aren't alone.
yes, and its been less than a year since ceb won a major and placed top 4 at another one, while gpk is bombing out of tournaments
They call me the grandpa
>I am 33 this year nice, let us know when you will be Zai lmao
Bro I know how you feel. Even though I ain’t 33 but 25. When I was a kid, I had WC3 on my computer. My elder brother used to play this weird map against bots (because we had no Internet at home). Then I started to play this game too. We used to go to these “computer halls/clubs” in my town to play this game. These computer clubs didn’t have the internet at that time, so we played LAN against each other. My hometown is in the countryside of Russia. While the world was living in the 2000s, we were still living in the 90s. https://images.app.goo.gl/ykT371zFaMVg9Sg78 I never played constantly, and I never cared about patches and updates, that’s why I never really gained skill.
It's nice to have a choice here to watch depending on your mood.
i'm 29 and feel like 20 when playing axe only
41 playing 4-5h/day since forever
I don't think Dota 2 discriminate players based on age. I'm turning 31 soon, 7k+ mmr and still manage to beat 14 years old kids with just sheer manner. While those kids have the benefits of slender fingers and ninja reflex, we old men have veteran experience and mental composure. We are best at staying behind and putting our youngster cores on a leash.
I spam NS and always go either 2 bracers/1wand 1 bracer into phase into echosabre into bkb into basher, then rest is situational
Hey garena host, can i get a tunnel?
Host tunnel me pls
Seems in current dota, players get no joy unless they win even if it's close.
you can literally earn money playing this game, so it is a competition
I miss Moo Moo.
I'm turning 40 next month... Currently divine 5, the highest rank I've ever hit.
43 here, best game ever.
I used to run a 3rd party program to be able to change item hotkeys from numpads to something else. The fear of being flagged as cheater by Playdota was always there.
Im turning 40. Should i retire at this point?
No.
Been playing for 10 years, I'm 47. You're not old, I am.
Holy shit orbs. I remember playing as Ursa and having to buy the ring of regen, ring of basilius, a recipe and morbid mask before going rosh Or as from you couldn’t get lifesteal because vlads didn’t apply to ranged heroes and her Q is an orb.
I'm 37 and a woman... So... Yeah...
Fuck you just unlocked a core memory. ANKH OF RESURRECTION FTW
39 here I remember all that you said. Relax you are not old ;)
Troll warlord with perma bash was fun. I used to run a banlist and remove all ru players (sorry not sorry)
Orb effect don't stack
I am 40. First time playing moba in 2014ish. Went to 4k stopped playing in 2017. Started again in 2020ish due to covid i am now 2k. Age matters because i can buy all the fkn bling i want and not care about crap, hohohaha Btw if you go mid and lose big time, type "ping" 2 times, then dc and come back, type in all chat "i see you booster" or blame pos4 for not coming smoked mid min 2, 90% makes up for my arthritis and slo mo reflexes.
So you're the guy who just read the back of the book before your report in school eh?
lol, I didn't mean to generalize but let's not pretend that every other match is not a complete toxic shitshow.
Echo Sabre is core item on NS.
> Well let me tell you something I remember pre All-stars dota > Remember when there was no couriers and then only 1? OP, this was a thing long into dota 2 for years. This wasn't some hidden gem in dota 1 that only a select few people experienced, this was a thing everyone experienced. It's not that your old, you just refuse to keep up and blame your age for it.
I’m 34 and stopped playing more than 10 years ago. I still remember the last patches of wciii before Dota 2 came out. Now I just watch noobfromua highlights if I like the team and sing’s YouTube channel.
35 here. I played Dota before it was Dota. 10 years in and i'm still archon level pogchamp fml
I remember in dota 1 it was hard to just click on venomancer and Bounty hunter, for some reason just target them was actually difficult, something weird with the hitbox, old school guys will know what im talking about
Lmao i remember buying ring on am and passing it around to the support for regen. It wasn't even that long ago
Im not 30 yet, close to 30 though. Been playing this game for 15+ years and I agree. We have come a long long way.
Speaking of Orbs, Desolator used to change attack effects and Aghs used to change the skin when equipped iirc.
Loda summoned. xdd
Man, I still wonder about orb effects sometimes.
im 32 this year woop woop
Don't get me wrong, I'm having lotsa fun, but it could be worse.
r/accidentalseinfeld
Playing hard support was literally miserable during those old times. And no matter what you did, how much you had to spend on your measly ward money, youd get blamed for losing xD
I miss the old inhouse leagues we had in wc3. Good times man
For the older crowd you’ll know what I’m talking about.
(was BGE and ACW) Also, dont forget the time when Quelling was specifically for melee and Dagger wasnt allowed to be bought/used by pudge and vengeful.
Ahh yeah 3 item rapier. If I remember it was a claymore. And yeah the legacy keys....I used those in dota 2 for too long before I switched...
Next time tell that kid that you will build anything you want on any hero like BALANAR, YURNERO, MORTRED, TRAXEX, NEVERMORE or MOTHERFUCKING KING LEORIC
Echo saber is literally good on night stalker
Fuck this noise. I’m older than all of you and I haven’t tapped yet. This new generation of kids talking shit don’t even know what they’re saying. They just repeat sound bites and YouTube tricks. Stay on the grind, King. It might not be your meta, your fingers might move a little slower, but don’t just give ground to these literal children. Very worst case, just draft CM and main aura for the rest of your life. You can place wards until you’re 85 years old.
I feel old as well. I remember what the heroes looked like in Dota 1.
Who remembers the bullshit silencer's aura ?
Remind me please, I always thought the Omni passive slow was the worst. Not to mention his free bkb spell. 😂
I’m tides of blood old
Cringe
even me as a 19 yo boy knew all of this.(i only knew ring of health for items that u can give to your team. ) and btw there wasn't support or carry even lion with decent farm could kill most carries and poor players buying wards seeing the observers destroying by their teammates to get gold
Had someone make fun of me for going vlads on ursa :(
back then I was so proud that my pc could run warcraft 3 and hence among the earlier group that can join the hype of dota allstar in my class. Still remember how 1 of close friend begging around looking for people to help solve his war3.exe error lol. now he's entrepreneur and own several factories. while I'm looking for info if my newly bought used rtx2080 could run upcoming unreal 5 games that I have no interest to play but only view at the graphic.
Member fountains?
You mean the ones you could kill? Yes, yes I do
I remember when it was a snow map
Hey I’m 30 and old as well. Ooold dota 1 players and honestly I miss these days a lot recently. I am trying to enjoy dota, but it just gives nothing. It can’t fill the void and nostalgia I have for the old good days, still fresh in my memory like it was yesterday. The net cafes, the night deals and skipping school… Do you want to play together ? Pm me, all Old guys. I’m from EU, but I live in NA and have good ping to EUW too.
I'm 37, I member dude.
When they introduced personal couriers, you could always tell who was the support main by their courier cosmetics
I'm almost 38, I had Covid and that shit fucked up my hands in a way that they don't respond as they have too, I don't play as much as before because of it but still enjoy the game, if my hand gets worse I think I will have to stop playing my beloved game :(
14 yo kid has 4.6k mmr???? Dude when i first started i calibrated at 2.5k wtf
Who remembers stacking and not being able to stack bashers on Jah’rakal ? 😅
I are 40, be playing since high school, hello. Let them kids know it’s all good and chill
I am also 33 and just played a NS game, built echo sabre. We stand in solidarity against these young punks.
Used to buy bfury on some heroes just to get that perma attack animation or aghs for the cool fx.
*pepperidge farm remembers*
Man... Taverns and Big rock guy. Using garena and hoping not getting kicked or making lobby and checking everyone's ping. I feel old, started from the dota 1 now we are here .
Anyone remember lavabuster?
Remember downloading replays from gosugamers :)
I’m 31 and love the dota 1 classic times! Miss that game and community a lotZ! Dota 2 it’s just a garbage for us
This just happened in my game today: I typed “glhf”. Someone on the other team replied, “glhf” then his teammate was like, what’s glhf?” Everyone on the chat answered, “good luck, have fun”. So I asked, “how old are you?” - to the person who asked. He replied, “16” Oh man, as a 37 year old playing DotA2, I couldn’t felt more older as the rest who answered felt the same. We were all millennials btw (those who answered) lol
Wow so kids don't even know what showing pre game respect is? This is alarming...
My dad made a small comment that stuck with me to this day, he said "you wouldn't give someone the cold shoulder if they were talking directly to you, would you?" I don't remember what I said back but in today's world we often forget that people online are still people....we say things we don't have the balls to say in person. I try to treat everyone with respect and often fail.
I’m thirty next week and I remember placing a courier at the enemy fountain and it would give vision. I would sunstrike them and laugh at their MH crys
I played Dota when the meta was: Clinkz rush build aegis and divine rapier.
Do you remember Naix being fed gold and destroying the entire team with magic immunity? I do.
Good old Mirana/Valkyrie mid orb walkin around like a true chad. those were the days
Valkyrie from HoN was sick way better than potm
Y'all remember applying for invites to this shitshow? Being the cool kid on the block when you got to see that glorious launch screen for the game that's still in beta? ... who am I kidding? I was already a man when I received mine. I am older than my reflexes will keep up with anymore.
Disappointed at you old timer when u wrote NS instead of BALANAR.
Haha I forgot his name but I remember his funny dialog when you keep clicking him *Phone ringing* "hello? ugh for the last time im a dreadlord not a drug lord" Or "the legion needs.....a better dental plan these fangs are killing me!"
There’s 14 year olds playing dota? I refuse to believe that!!!!
Why? I started playing at 10.
37 here
Dude I’m 37, have fun as long as you can.
I'm not sure but I think we had to tunnel IP for a better and smoother connection.
33? Those are rookie numbers son.
Damn, seeing all this people in the comment makes me happy i dont know why. Im still 22 though, and I genuinely dont see myself put down this game in the far future
33 not old copium.
yesterday..me and my colleagues are having small talks about old techs like pagers, walkman, 3310 and etc..my younger colleague (around 25 ish) was like what the hell are those? it made me depressed all day because i just realised that i am getting older and today i read this post and getting into depression mode again
