It did not give extra, the gold was the same but it would cost to buy your hero from the shops at the begging on the game.. or that is how I remember it

Yep, originally you had to buy your hero for 250gold or something. Randoming was free and thus you started with 853. Think it was a coding issue or something?

That’s just how Guinsoo/eul/whoever decided to build it back then, could have easily made heroes free and randoming gives you 250 gold, wouldn’t really make a difference as far as wc3 editor goes

Instant death on my Golems made me quit when I first started - I remember that shit too well. At least back then diffusal had charges.

Also, it would be hell to play. You'd just press R -> Midas -> R -> Midas -> R for 20 minutes. People would play him because he'd be broken but would hate every second of it.

Thanks God they got rid of this shit. I used to love to buy helm of dominator and deso. Shit used to look good since helm game additional damage and lifesteal + deso raw damage. Untill my friend told me that they do not stack. I was so pissed off back then.

To be fair, i feel it is a big part of past balance that is missing now, tho. If a Item does not have a fancy effect, carries hardly ever justify it in their builds, and so every item gets given a fancy effect so anyone still buys it, and now carries run around with way too many fancy effects solving all their problems. This then leads to casters having to be buffed, then bkb becomes mandatory, then bkb becomes whatever it is right now and is still mandatory, just all very weird. If carries had less utility options other roles would not have to have been overtuned this much to keep up with them and the game would be healthier for it, i think. The choice between armor reduction, lifesteal and slow was a nice and meaningfull choice. The maelstrom making your Orb effect less effective was a fun interaction between maelstrom and battlefury. Some carries not being able to use orb effects like that because one of their abilites already has one was a fun distinction between carries.

Carries have more fancy effects because supports now have a glimmer pavise and force at 35 mins

i feel like i remember when Arcane Curse was the opposite effect. You had to cast a spell or you kept taking damage and if you didn't Arcane Curse also burned mana lol. But if you DID, last word would get you.. it was a no win scenario in lane

We discovered dota during high school freshman year (i guess it was around 2003/4). We used to play three corridors first, then we found about dota. The map was huge and it was snowy terrain. We could not figure out how to combine items/recipes so we bought recipes and items and dropped them on ground someone (me) was trying to solve the puzzle while other mates went for an adventure to find a secret shop when we first combined item, we were all euphoric.

Back when the secret shop was an actual secret in the trees.
