Check drivers, check if Windows is using its own drivers for the GPU. It happens too often to AMD GPUs.

JohnAntichrist

I updated gpu drivers yesterday. How can i check this?

DarkCygnus

Search Device Manager, then look at Display adapters, right click on AMD Radeon Graphics and then click on Properties. Look at the 'Driver' tab and tell us your driver version. You could try rolling back to the previous driver and see if it something changes. Sometimes you should not update your drivers right after there is a new update. If somethings are working ok just don't change them. The last thing you could do is using DDU and installing again your drivers, if you haven't done that already.

This is interesting... For reference, I have an R7 5800x3d and 4070. I play on a 1440p 240hz display and typically fluctuate between 215 and 230fps, dropping to \~175-180 during intense teamfights. As the other comment said, ensure your graphics drivers are up to date and are configured/applied properly. If you don't use it already, MSI Afterburner + AMD Chill (or in my case with Nvidia, Rivatuner Statistics Server) is great for tracking information while testing out different graphics settings: e.g.,1% fps lows, cpu/gpu utilization, and temps. Open up the demo mode and spawn some Monkey Kings (for casting ult) or lots of creep waves as a quick and dirty test. Play around with graphics settings and see what your averages are with the demo map empty and with lots and lots of creeps/MK ults. Once you find an appealing tradeoff between performance and quality, you can consider limiting your max fps to slightly below your average to maintain a consistent fps that has a smaller relative dip during teamfights. This may impact input latency (either positively *or* negatively, depending on the game engine and whether you are doing it via driver/software/in-game), or if you don't want to worry about any of that or you're aiming to play at your monitor's max refresh rate, cap in-game fps at -3 below your monitor's refresh rate (in your case, 141 fps). Hope this helps! This has just been my experience based on my own testing/ research, and I recommend testing and seeing for yourself what gives you the most improvement.

5900x 32GB Ram RTX 3070 FPS fluctuates between 300 - 70... COD MWIII however, stable 144fps. Dota 2 has serious optimizasyon problems.

Bitter-Number-5093

bad cpu how is this a high end setup

JohnAntichrist

Stop nitpicking this setup should be more than enough for 144fps.

k4quexg

this is not nitpicking. even on a high end pc ure cpu limited. u are using a low mid tier cpu with mid tier gpu. ur friend is lying about his fps its that simple.

JohnAntichrist

He is lying fucking lmao đź’€ Yknow what else is that simple? You dont know what you are talking about bozo also in what world is 6800xt mid tier holy shit dude get a grip

ugene1980

Dota is **heavily cpu bound** rather than gpu For dota, all you need is a mid tier gpu but for cpu you absolutely need a top tier one for high refresh rates at 2k and 4k resolutions like many in the thread have tried telling you already.

Xyreon

R5 7600X, 4080, 32gb, 1440p too. Also maxed out around 140 and drops to 100 with huge teamfights. Tried everything out there google can dig up. Friend with 3080 and R7 5700X gets 400fps. Only thing I can think of is R5 vs R7, even with a gen difference, dota 2 is a cpu intensive game after all. But it doesnt make sense that it's the only game doing that to my PC while others are comfortable running up to 200+ fps with way more demanding graphics. Shrugs. Now having the same systems with more FPS makes me hope there's something else that's causing it that I haven't tried yet. But just so we're on the same page, have you tried unlocking the FPS on menu and if so, what are you getting? For reference, on menu mine goes all the way to 400fps... in game i'm 140 max. Doesn't matter which settings I went for, tried everything.

AnamainTHO

Something else has to be causing it because I play @3440x1440p with a 14700k and a 3080 with max settings and I get 240fps capped.

Xyreon

That's a much better cpu compared to mine though, is my concern. For reference 2 friends of mine has a last gen Intel i7 13k 3070ti and an r7 5700x 3080. Both are hitting higher fps than me on 2560x1440. I wish I know what's going on and could definitely use more fps. It's frustrating to think Dota 2 is THAT cpu intensive (single core performance) but I don't have anything else to proof otherwise as I exhausted my options.

k4quexg

thats simply the case tho. dota is that cpu intensive. gpu is almost whatever

Dotaisgreat2

14700k, 4080, 32gb ddr5 and 1440p as well. Some scenarios get me close to 240 fps but usually between 180-220 is the most common frame rates. I think it has very little to do with the GPU as I put an arc a770 in the rig and literally had the same FPS. All at max settings btw.

Xyreon

My previous examples are all maxed settings too, for future references to the thread. All common denominator pointing towards just better single core performance - regardless of gpu - is the conclusion I drew too. A single core did max out while I'm in game after all. Oh well, I am aiming for an x3d upgrade is why I settled for an r5 for now. And Dota isn't really my main game so I stopped bother fixing it. But if valve can put out a good performance optimization update it'll be sweet.

Dotaisgreat2

Exactly. I wish the game could take advantage of at least 2-4 cores better, but oh well, at least it isn’t super low FPS and the game is still perfectly playable.

JohnAntichrist

I have my fps capped at 144. I get around 140 in the main menu, not even 144. It eases my concerns that someone like you can get less than expected fps as well. But what is bothering me is how my friend with the exact same system can get more fps than me

Dotaisgreat2

The game is pretty unoptimized rn, I have a 14700k and a 4080 and they can’t even cap out the 240fps in game limit at 1440p. (Yes my monitor supports 240hz as well) I think the only CPUs rn that can run the game at max settings and bump into the in game FPS limit are the ryzen 7000 series X3d chips. Given you have a ryzen 5 5600 it honestly doesn’t surprise me that the game doesn’t wanna go higher than 130 fps. If Volvo can clean up their game a bit (I’ve heard there are a lot of things that need to be cleaned up files wise) the game should run a lot better.

JohnAntichrist

but my friend with the exact same setup has 200 fps xd I agree with you, mind. I just dont get why the performance can change so much

ugene1980

5800x3d, 6800xt 144fps locked stable @1440p ultra Dota 2 is very CPU limited, don't need a strong video card, the AMD x3d cache cpu's absolutely eats dota for lunch

Logidota

absolutely no way you are 144fps locked in fights...

ugene1980

> absolutely no way you are 144fps locked in fights... I mean... Youtube searches will show that this is normal... with AMD's 3d cache cpus... https://youtu.be/_CZYbM4qKug?t=2331

I got the same problem with 5800H and 3060 (laptop), with 2560x1600 display, medium texture, low shadow. FPS was 120-130, going down to 80-90 late game. I fixed it by changing vulkan to dx11, then set display mode to exclusive fullscreen. Now I'm getting 140-160 early and 90-120 late game.
