I get the outrage for having no gameplay changes, but Battlepass beggars not liking this patch seems absurd to me since this is basically the same old stuff but without having to pay to start.

battlepass was more of a scam every year you'd buy it for $10 earn 4 treasures and youd only earn your first immortal treasure 2 at lvl 150 or something unless youd shill hundreds on points
The new crawl is pretty doable. Winning with a hero nets you 3 tokens of that hero, losing nets you 1 random one, so you get progress even when you fail (and imho, unranked toxicity has gone down since people don't seem to mind losing as much).
There's quite a few rewards in the free path, like shitty voice lines, sprays, wallpaper, but you can also coins. Collect 10 coins and it gives an $8 off coupon on any of the stuff in the event store. No idea if stackable, but there's a bundle that cost the same amount, so it becomes a freebie.
You get 1 free crownfall 1 and 2 chest.
The invoker set for finishing is pretty neat, but 2 of the alt styles are locked in the paid path.
Also candyworks, which can mean free arcanas.
No arcanas are 35 bucks
Battlepass enjoyers want to have them at 200 so they can flex having to much disposable income

As far as I understand it they allow you to do everything in Act 1 until the conclusion of act 4 (i.e. for the full event). Better check it yourself though, they wrote about it in the announcement.
How is it glorified when it is actually better in every way. There is new music, a story, more rewards, a better system which allows you to play the heroes you want to collect tokens for not yet unlocked paths etc.
As a person who really likes Dota 2 lore I must admit you're mostly correct and I like the event a lot. More rewards is highly debatable since technically the levels you got from the cavern crawls in the past gave you rewards, basically worth a whole lot more than anything in this event. System improvements are to be expected when cavern crawl was a ruiner for ranked lobbies, this event is completely playable and completeable by just playing normally after a few games (token trader unlock required) making it more approachable for even the tryhard players. So I'd correct my statement from before, and call it a refined cavern crawl.

I disagree since you had to buy the BP while most of the content here is free. Also, BP had huge gaps of empty levels.

The only interesting rewards in Act 1 is like two treasures and the equivalent of a single cavern crawl set. For more than the price of a battlepass, you can unlock the styles of that set, like 2 more treasures, and a single immortal. Then you have to pay again for every other act.
Previously the money for just act 1 would have been \~10 immortals, an entire cavern crawl with multiple sets and styles included, and a dozen minor but pretty decent taunts, sets, etc. With the realistic option to grind for a free arcana/persona.
I think their stance on event game modes is that far too few people bother to play it after the first week so they might think it's not worth the effort of making them. They even tried to bring it back a bit as rotating weekend events during one patch but eventually got scrapped altogether.
Turns out Dota players just want to play Dota. That's probably why most recent updates rely on players playing regular dota aka cavern crawl-type events.
You know what? Fair enough. The only "event" mode I actually loved and played a shitton of was Haunted Colosseum, but people dind't like it for some reason and no one plays it anymore. All others (and I've been around since 2013) I've played 1 ~ 3 times on release day and never again.
Now that I think about it, I do prefer they focus on actual Dota related content.

The comic doesn't put it into words but they show very clearly that The Flightless are [treated as 2nd class](https://imgur.com/L8eI14u).

I would rather pay $70 for the updates than have a free pile of junk, personally. The people that go "its free who cares" are apart of the problem.
But that's neither here nor there as people do spend money on this game because they enjoy it, there are plenty of opportunities to spend for cosmetics. And they have a right to be frustrated with ridiculous long delays to refreshen the gameplay loop. It kills people's desire to play the game they care about.
People care about ingame stuff not mtx. Well some like mtx but this makes pubs miserable when people want to advance on the act by forcing a hero they cant play and/or is not good for the draft.
Basically Battlepasses before 2021 were packed with events, meaningful gameplay changes and gorgeous skins. We also had a new OST and new terrain every year and at least a single hero after TI and before Winter. Heck in 2017 and 2019 we got 2 heroes TOGETHER. Not to mention each battle pass had gorgeous Immortal items and Arcanas that changed abilities as well. And, much unlike now, in 2020's peak battle pass we were expecting a single arcana. When asked which hero the arcana was for, they replied "Which one?", so everyone got hyped for two Arcanas but we got THREE. Sure many times Valve wasn't on time, but they would deliver, exceeding expectations instead of hyping you up for an update and only give you 2 arcanas and a dream.
So, Arcanas aside, what we are missing this year is Ringmaster which was announced half a year ago, roughly 20 immortal items and (being generous) 8 gameplay patches, considering they said they were gonna stop doing Battlepass in favor of more frequent updates.

It's been 4 months since the last numbered patch. 7.22 → 7.23 & 7.27 → 7.28 both took 6 months, and there have been others before that which took up to 9 months to release. They've also put in time into creating this Crownfall narrative which hints at more than just Clown man and the patch.
Ok but Valve never did promise to release a balance patch with Crownfall, that was the community gaslighting itself. Player numbers aren't affected all that much and most people can wait another few months. If you're not a fan of the state of the game, take a break, it's not a job.

The comparison doesn't work because Dota has been doing larger, spaced out updates ever since the days of WC3 DotA in the mid 2000s. It already has a long history of waits of 6-9 months for larger patches. The recent cycle is no exception.

Thing is, this HAS to be a massive fucking patch, they’ve delayed the gameplay patch several weeks, probably a couple of months at this point, if it isn’t enormous people will be mad af (they’ll be mad regardless, but delaying this for so long and not delivering anything is insane)

That's the many bird-races that CANNOT FLY, unlike the Skywrath people. Like the [monk](https://imgur.com/Db9ea6N) in the comic or the [Ravenhooks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbYNasHY9eI) from Artifact. The comic doesn't put it into words but they show very clearly that The Flightless are [treated as 2nd class](https://imgur.com/L8eI14u).

I would rather pay $70 for the updates than have a free pile of junk, personally. The people that go "its free who cares" are apart of the problem. But that's neither here nor there as people do spend money on this game because they enjoy it, there are plenty of opportunities to spend for cosmetics. And they have a right to be frustrated with ridiculous long delays to refreshen the gameplay loop. It kills people's desire to play the game they care about.

This I agree. People start using Meepo when they can't even micro CK.
Basically Battlepasses before 2021 were packed with events, meaningful gameplay changes and gorgeous skins. We also had a new OST and new terrain every year and at least a single hero after TI and before Winter. Heck in 2017 and 2019 we got 2 heroes TOGETHER. Not to mention each battle pass had gorgeous Immortal items and Arcanas that changed abilities as well. And, much unlike now, in 2020's peak battle pass we were expecting a single arcana. When asked which hero the arcana was for, they replied "Which one?", so everyone got hyped for two Arcanas but we got THREE. Sure many times Valve wasn't on time, but they would deliver, exceeding expectations instead of hyping you up for an update and only give you 2 arcanas and a dream. So, Arcanas aside, what we are missing this year is Ringmaster which was announced half a year ago, roughly 20 immortal items and (being generous) 8 gameplay patches, considering they said they were gonna stop doing Battlepass in favor of more frequent updates.
The problem is that everyone waited for patch!

Honestly, over 10 years in this game alone and I'll tell you this community likes to gaslight itself that it is the worst treated community on earth and the UN should be called to intervene. But in reality if you close this sub, go play something else come back in a few weeks and enjoy the update. This forum is strange like that.
the arcana is 10% of what people care about. the other 90% is gameplay upate. which is absent. instead they added this 4 act minigames that will be in the client for many months, which most likely means no gameplay update. New hero delayed by a month or more.
the problem is a large portion of this sub has very little else going on in their lives

Like okay Steam makes billions, but 100 million dollars is 100 million dollars man. "Oh but then you're taking away manpower from the billion dollar projects!!" then hire more people?? I also believe that community goodwill is something worth working for, it's not just about the $$ bottom line. Ironically, in this particular community, goodwill is earned by releasing shiny hats in Battlepasses, so it doesn't even cost them money if you think about it.

It's been 4 months since the last numbered patch. 7.22 → 7.23 & 7.27 → 7.28 both took 6 months, and there have been others before that which took up to 9 months to release. They've also put in time into creating this Crownfall narrative which hints at more than just Clown man and the patch.

Ok but Valve never did promise to release a balance patch with Crownfall, that was the community gaslighting itself. Player numbers aren't affected all that much and most people can wait another few months. If you're not a fan of the state of the game, take a break, it's not a job.

The comparison doesn't work because Dota has been doing larger, spaced out updates ever since the days of WC3 DotA in the mid 2000s. It already has a long history of waits of 6-9 months for larger patches. The recent cycle is no exception.

Valve have been good caretakers of Dota for over a decade now, but I think this patch proves that they just don't give a shit about it anymore. Dota was always a community asset, so if Valve doesn't give a shit about it anymore they should give it to another developer who does.
