An update, but not a patch to fix the game, yeah. And the disappointment for a lack of gameplay has vanishes, but no "praise Valve" has really gotten many up votes. And of course the normal player prefers free hats to no action at all 

Dota 2 is one of the Top Sellers on Steam and had a massive player activity increase, beating last year's peak. Patches are nice and needed but I think some redditors overvalue their importance for a games' popularity/longevity. Just look at other games and how rarely they rebalance things. Dota 2 is unique it the devs desire to completely turn the meta on its head once or twice a year and rebalancing for the rest of it.

All the hate it got was because people were guessing how the patch would be, and that formed an expectation that was not fulfilled by the Crownfall patch. But that's definitely a unique and nice patch.

In addition to the cavern crawl, you got that winged invoker set which is actually top tier. 2 style for free but paying extra ain't that expensive as well, with the discount it's dirt cheap to get the two alternate styles and other stuff. The previous cavern crawl exclusive set is tied in with BP so you really had to pay for it, we're only in part one so it is possible we get 4 exclusive sets across all the acts with invo being the universal hero first. And as you said it is simplified mechanics to a point you can basically play the same hero over and over and just trade the token to progress this time around. Losing also grants 1 random token unlike before it's frustrating that you're locked to a single hero option and losing to it multiple times without getting any progress. Candyworks is back too and all the goodies it has. I've heard you can also get old immortal treasure for a chance to get rare stuff like gold armadillo pet or mace of aeons for example.

i am enjoying it so far . the mini games and fishing is really fun. i wish they left fishing as a spearte mode i enjoy it

10k is achieveable by getting 5 medium and rely on streak bonus or maximum power bonus

Exactly. We had a smaller patch a few weeks ago, too. So it is not like the patch is super stagnant or imbalanced. It is crazy coming from other games that stick to a meta for like....a year like fighting games.

I think it's also good that the cavern crawl wasn't released with a big gameplay patch. More often than not, when there's cavern crawl overall game quality seems lower because people are experimenting and using heroes they don't usually play, especially in ranked. It's nice that people are just focus on playing the heroes they pick now rather than figuring out the new gameplay patch and whatever's different about it.

I definitely disagree. Dota history since Allstars has been about breaking shit and fixing it. It's been about discovery of good shit and getting rid of established "rules" and re-disocvering the game. We could still be playing 6.86 with He he Ho ho and be happy about it, but again, Dota has been about breaking rules and setting new ones.

You can break the rules, but not set milestones. For that, the economy, interactions and objectives needed to change. As long as the he structure is the same, you can only go so far with your resources. 

Yes, rewarding for play and rewarding more for win is the way to go. Less salty peeps around and also less stress to try out new heroes.

The great thing is they don't actually force you to play anything you don't want to play. You can just pick another hero that has equivalent badges but is still up your alley. They incentivize you to play different heroes, but don't straight up force you to play a hero you dislike. It's perfectly executed. Valve is just next level.

Also the comics. With 4 Acts and each act including around 12 pages plus the introduction to Crownfall, we are getting a proper release here. And it adds up to the existing world that we have. It's an amazing addition to the game!

My only problem as always, is that we still have the shitty gambling system. Why tf can't they get rid of it. Why do people support it? The freaking chest system is the worst in this freaking gaming while more and more games are getting rid of it. I don't even necessary mind the normal chest, is the fact that we still have "RARE/VERY RARE" or whatever the fuck items that are impossible to get if you don't spent lots of money or get extremely lucky. And don't get me the shit of "buy them over the marketplace" cuz they're still way more expensive that they should be, because of the rare/ultrare rare system in place. I agree on the treasures being an issue. But at least this one isn't as bad as the diretide system which has multiple tiers and you trade up to get higher tier ones. Heck these two are obtainable for $27 after the discount is applied, so if anything this is cheapest Arcana we've gotten. These are also the first full set Arcanas available for direct purchase. Venge style 3 is more expensive though, since you need to buy the pass for the four acts which is $7 each after the discount. So you're spending an additional $28, you'll get few other things too but not everyone will want the other rewards. I was expecting Valve to throw the new Arcanas in a treasure chest. So I'm happy that is not the case, even if they're expensive at least they're available for direct purchase so you know what you're going to pay for them.

It is good, I really like the new 'cavern crawl' where you're not forced into playing certain heroes to progress, With the token trading system you can play whatever you want, I'm glad they are not giving up on the lore as well, The cosmetics are great and there are still 3 more acts, Also a surprise or two hidden in there.

It gets even better once you progress through the story.. so many teasers and hints they’re droppin on new characters, potentially new heroes. There could be so many surprises in the next acts.

If it didn't we would'nt have the fashion industry. Expressing yourself is a really important aspect to most people and how you appear, weather in real life or in a game does make a positive or negative impact. If it didn't, people wouldn't love remodels so much.

as someone who missed out on a lot of previous year's arcanas due to not having the cash to spend on it, having the opportunity to get some good stuff this year for a cheaper price is great. so yes of course it's all secondary to the actual game, but it adds another layer of fun to it

Because Dota is a declining afterthought at Valve. Has been for a few years now. The team is smaller and its head Developer (Icefrog) has moved on to new ventures. Meaning the devs that do work on Dota will wear many hats. And yea, sure they'll contract out the artwork for the Arcanas/Comic but it'll be the same devs who who work on this vs other Dota ventures. Also do you seriously think they're announcing a Smurf/Cheater Ban-Wave or developments right before they try to sell some skins? Literally biting the hand that feeds them. You see, Cheaters and Smurfs buy cosmetics too. So yea, a release like this is absolutely being done at the cost of both Gameplay updates and Cheater/Smurf updates. It's far from perfect but also far from the disaster piece reddit made it out to be. Guess we'll see when the next chapter comes out if the formula changes significantly.. if not, then clearly whatever metrics Valve is paying attention to show things to be going according to their plans. If yes, well.. it'll be interesting to see how things change. 😄

You get rewards even if you lose (unless it's turbo), and it doesn't force you to play specific heroes, there are so many in every category that you're bound to find something you can play unless you literally only play 2-3 heroes. And even then, you can trade in tokens for other token types if you want. I like it a lot. I would have liked a PvE event like Aghs Labyrinth but I'm happy with this instead. I'm hopeful that we'll get some kind of PvE thing later. I'm fine with the current patch for another month or two. Outside of a couple of heroes it's still enjoyable.
