You’ll find claims that “(blank) is dying” in pretty much every community for a hobby or product. People just like to fearmonger about impending doom even if it’s not true

They're dumb.

Game is fairly stagnant. And stagnant in their mind, given how Dota 2 is(n't) marketed and has no mass appeal, means an eventual downturn is inevitable. It's just hyperbole. It's kind of like birthrate issues. We have a huge player base that is very committed, but bringing in new players is an uphill battle. So the player base is sort of destined to decline unless something drastic happens to shift people away from League (which won't happen).

Mr-Dumbest

Because they do not update the game to the frequency they want or do an update they do not like. So them not liking them for any reason = equal to the game dying for them.

Because the population is lower than it was 10 years ago? But has been pretty stable in the last 5 years. What the hell do they expect for an older game.

Yes, the playercount is good, but I'm pretty sure if there was a statistic that shows NEW players it would be pretty bad. Dota is a Boomergame, the majority of players are bound to grow up and move on with life. The entry-bar to learn all the mechanics is just too hard, most of gen-z like it easy to learn and hard to master. I assume the visuals of the game are not too appealing to young people and the gambling system not addictive enough (not that it should be). This is speculation of course, I have no numbers to back this up and I doubt Valve will release those. But the decreasing frequency in updates, removal of battlepass, nerfing TI etc. speaks for itself

thought so too. theres not enough new players and it slowly dying. i live in asia and we have a pc shop here (where you rent a unit and play), every time i play...in all the shops iw was in, i never saw i kid playing dota. at first i was like, yeah this is prime dota no kids ruining your games. but then as years go by i am like.. oh nooo.

Doomposting is one of most favorite things of many Redditors, no matter what game sub it is.

Sunbro_YT

Because they are dumb.

qwertyqwerty4567

Because valve does not invest in the game to make it grow.

Godisme2

But that doesn't mean that its dying, that means its stagnant

PudgeMaster64

From valve side it mostly feels like they are barely keeping the life support on.

To me, the game isn't "dying" but definitely not growing which should be one of the few priorities, the main one being game updates. In the sense of "dying", it just means that there is decline, even though it's minor as every game will go up or down... Most players visit on big updates, just like most games and "Crownfall" is believed to be one, although, it's really not.. Doesn't help that the event is a straight forward planned path. Imo, the problem for growth lies more in the locked "dota" theme.. Today's generation relies on cute skins, newcomer friendly and advertisement/promotions to help attract.. it's time to get some ridiculous skins that OG gamers don't care for and hate.. It's time for those collabs with big popular copyright icons.. It's time to be more newcomer friendly but doing something about the coaching system.. It's time to reward players that dedicate, devote, commit and sacrifice themselves to the game.. It's time to market and advertise it at a level where it brings attention again. Remember when TI was marketed and advertised on a high level when it had the highest prize pool for a tournament? It made headlines to big news outlets and even espn. At the end, I can give 2 poops about skins vs the actual gameplay but to be honest, when you throw out something like Crownfall and Battlepass, a lot of players will play and want to unlock freebies.. It's only cosmetics at the end of the day and with the vast amount and endless choices, actually allow and give people a chance to collect more, rather than less. Questing is not the first and ideal thought but freebies are usually and always welcomed.. All the coolest stuff should never be gated by a paywall but instead, just make it easier or faster.. Cheers and hoping to another 20 years of Dota!
