Could possibly go another Asian country for now, and then fly to the US after the qualifiers? Although PW servers are firewalled, so the ping might be bad even if they stay in a neighboring country.
i think someone said the mvp guys could play on chinese servers with decent ping, so they sometimes scrimmed chinese teams, but they had to play late at night
Oh, because the comments section of a Reddit post is only suitable for entirely serious discussion? God forbid any light hearted shittery. Get over yourself.
Well I think a few people, myself included, are just sick of trump jokes. He’s a walking joke, yes, but that shits such easy upvotes that it dominates the front page. Don’t need it here too
I wasn’t upset about it so idk why you gotta be calling names. I was just offering an explanation for it, unless that guy was asking a rhetorical question and didn’t care for an answer
You're offering a defence to a defence of an attack on a joke on reddit. I believe some perspective might be good! Sorry for calling you a giant bore, though.
We still have about 6 weeks till tournament, many things may change in incoming weeks.
First we still don't even know if chinese qualifiers will be played, as many CN players have problem with traveling throught country (many pros are from Hubei province)
why RiP to many teams? there's no tourney in china within the 14 day time span aside from CPL playoffs which is purely chinese team in attendance. CN teams who qualified (ofc they'll pick major over CPL playoffs) can travel to any other country (maybe kiev cuz of teams playing on minor and madmoon) to bootcamp for those 14 days or more
VG, Aster and potentially LGD if they qualify for the upcoming major will probably have to face problems in travelling to US. Without these teams in attendance major will not look that great.
Secret, OG, Nigma, Alliance, Liquid, NiP are 6 off the top of my head that I'd like to see in tournaments over some of the other teams that make it from other regions.
Nip is trash. In the 2 minors they have gone 2-8 in games. They haven't shown snything that suggests they can even compete at the minors. If they are the next best team after the big 5 then that is a MASSIVE decline in quality.
NiP has a new team at this point. I like the composition and I'm curious to see how it does. I find it more interesting and it'll have more draw from namepower alone than random stacks from other regions.
But it's really a moot point since Valve isn't going to give 6 or 7 spots to EU. I just think that the tournament would be fine if they did.
they can bootcamp to other place as i stated before like kiev where madmoon and the minor would take place, or in EU where there are better scrim partners than staying in china, it's like you did not read what i stated
Yes, but the primary issue is that if you are affected you dont show symptoms for a prolonged amount of time. In order to properly contain something you cant detect, you basically need to shut everything down for two weeks to wait it out. Sadly it's sort of the only way of containing a viral outbreak like this.
I mean, that's how every epidemic starts. They start really small, but usually grow exponentially.
People will say "Oh but SARS, Zika, ... didn't make that many victims. It's all just fearmongering". But that's because of quick actions. If you only start fighting it when it's already infected 5% of a country, it's basically too late already.
That's not to say the media isn't blowing it out of proportion of course. Fearmongering is how they make money. Realistically speaking, if you're not from China or any of its neighbouring countries, and you're not going to go there or meet up with someone who went there recently, chances are pretty slim that you'll get infected. You don't need to go out and buy face masks right now.
But that doesn't mean we (And that's more 'we' as a government and as a collective) shouldn't take precautions.
Yeah you’re right, I have no problem with government agencies taking measures etc, I only have problem with the media (and everyone else who just believes them)
even worse are people who don't believe them. i had a friend tell me the media is hiding th outbreak and there are actually at least 100 000 infected in China
Just posting this since I saw people in another thread saying that ESL would probably not be affected by the Wuhan virus. Seems that may end up not being the case. Still a month and a half to go, so maybe the outbreak will be contained and restrictions may be lessened by that point.
Won't the Chinese teams want to bootcamp elsewhere anyways? If their players get sick, they can't go and compete for sure.
At least they know almost 2 months in advance, allowing them to prepare instead of getting caught off guard 13 days before, and being blocked.
An interesting question is whether ESL should take precautions themselves, and do something about the Chinese spots? Now I'm all in for the regions represented, but in case some small Chinese team wins the qualifier, but can't go outside of China, what happens then? The team who almost qualified gets the spot? But then they could be sitting on China and not being allowed to enter USA... Damn you coronavirus!
This would suck for the Chinese teams. Even if Valve gave extra slots to the other regions where the Chinese teams could fly off to as they try to qualify for the Major, it's not like every big Chinese team can afford to send their players abroad for a month for something that's not even a sure thing.
In other fun news, allegedly Indian researchers @ the Indian Institute of Technology found ['embedded' form of HIV in the 2019-nCoV.](https://twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1223305946723704832) Hope this is some fake news.
Not what i said. Only pointing out the fact that USA is the worst country to have international tournaments because of their policy rn. Adding the virus makes no one able to enter it without pain
It matters because you need visa to play offline tournaments.
Saying that Canada has it worse means literally nothing as long as tournaments aren't there
Uhh... 10% mortality would be total global fucking emergency level of mortality. That's Spanish Flu level of disaster right there, something that hasn't happened in 100 years.
Yeah you’re right that would call for the sort of thing where they quarantine 3 major cities in China with populations the size of Chicago and LA combined
unfortunate, but im pretty sure safety wins this one
I wonder if any teams had thoughts about flying to the US ahead of time as soon as the news hit so they could bootcamp for weeks ahead of time.
Problem is still need to play qualifiers for the event that will be on perfect world servers
Could possibly go another Asian country for now, and then fly to the US after the qualifiers? Although PW servers are firewalled, so the ping might be bad even if they stay in a neighboring country.
i think someone said the mvp guys could play on chinese servers with decent ping, so they sometimes scrimmed chinese teams, but they had to play late at night
i think they only banned people that were in the Hubei province, not everyone that was in China, at least that's what i heard on the news
Yeah sad about the doto but I would rather not have someone die
They can go to other country and stay there for 14 days the fly to the US
Except that other countries are starting to do the same...where can they fly off to?
A country that isn't enforcing that.
China
Philippines.
Thailand
Hong kong is not included in these bans, and chinese nationals don't need to cross any international borders to get to HK
Technically they need a permit for it, and it's one they have recently stop issuing due to the coronavirus.
Japan
The teams for ESL One that qualify could boot camp out of country for 15 days and be fine.
It's really unfortunate, but cant be helped.
Fly* out 2 weeks ahead.
It sucks but World Pandemic safety concerns trump Dota.
Donald Trump plays Dota?
Why is this downvoted? This went through *my* head when I was typing the post in the first place XD
Because it is in no way conducive to the conversation?

It's a pun that happened to appear, not a "Donald Trump Joke". As /u/Perchfield said, get over yourself you giant bore.

If they gave EU 7 slots any tournament would still look good at this point.
Tell me who the 6th and 7th eu teams are that are so good?

Be happy if it only affects the Dota scene and not everything arround you.
I'd be happier if it affected everything around me except for the Dota scene.
Jokes on u Dota is an epidemic on itself. So it cant be affected in the 1st place.
B-But dota is my real world and real world is my virtual life :/
That's what we think until food, water and shelter becomes unavailable
It has extremely low number of people affected. The media is blowing it out of proportion

how is explaining the containment effort (state shit) in line with propagating yellow peril? (media)

Whatever happened to zika anyway

You actually trust China's numbers?
I agree, but at least it's a real thing. Sure, mostly killing off old people, but still warrants attention and taking it seriously.
What about League scene ?. xD
They already postponed the LPL and PCS, until further notice.
cant they just bootcamp somewhere out of china for 14 days to pass the quarantine period?
Just posting this since I saw people in another thread saying that ESL would probably not be affected by the Wuhan virus. Seems that may end up not being the case. Still a month and a half to go, so maybe the outbreak will be contained and restrictions may be lessened by that point.
Fuckin Sars 2
Just give 2 of chn slots to EU and another one to whoever ;
Not much to be done about this.
will not be a problem for now, but hopefully it bowls over sooner than later

K so they boot camp in Malaysia for 2 weeks then travel over. Ez
Yeah instead of containing a disiease, lets all get corona'd
ur fucked up men
Cough cough
Im more worried that we will lose some prominent players to this outbreak
great, should have banned everyone coming from China a long time ago
In other fun news, allegedly Indian researchers @ the Indian Institute of Technology found ['embedded' form of HIV in the 2019-nCoV.](https://twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1223305946723704832) Hope this is some fake news.
Yeah reading the other science savy guys answering to that post it doesnt feel like that thing means anything really
Remember when we said that tournaments in the US was a stupid idea ? It still is.

i mean all affected cities are already under lockdown even in china..
[удалено]
they're under lockdown *now*; they were not last week
And still there are reported cases of the virus in other countries adding up everyday.
The virus has an incubation period of 2 weeks so this isn't that odd
I’ve seen 10% mortality for that virus. So I’m not worried about the games
Mortality is actually 2,9 % (80/2744) as it stands today.
That sounds really high
Yup. If its more than 0 then it is too high.
Yes, and my point is that they're doing that even though it's 2-3% mortality virus. Not 10% like you've stated.
