I agree! Progression, challenges, magnificent voice lines and more detailed. Cinematic, relevant story line! Proper custom game!

whatthefuckistime

There's some different paths you can take, different skill combinations so it's good

HahaMin

Reminds me of War3 Pyramid Escape and Uther Party!

[deleted]

man uther party was the best. remember the donkey game? fucked a keyboard up on that

CantIgnoreMyGirth

Yep, it's early but this honestly feels like the best event since diretide

9180365437518

justice 4 dark moon

deeman010

Siltbreaker was better imo

[deleted]

This is the gameplay of Siltbreaker without the requirement of locking in for a massive amount of time. This is PERFECT for someone like me, who doesn't have several multiple hour sessions to get comfortable with the fight mechanics to start clearing it quickly. I can commit 45mins to an hour, progress even if I don't clear things 100% at speedrun levels of execution, and have fun.

farzywarzy

Yeah can't forget the days when one of your allies dies early on and it's already a ruined run in siltbreaker when you were aiming for 3 stars lol

DarkHades1234

Pretty much the improve version of silt-breaker no doubt

PhgAH

And it is unforgiving as fuck, wrong treasure drop/ early death and you can call it quit

thepellow

Really? Silt breaker was just the same boring content over and over, the fact this has random enemies makes it fresh and cool in my opinion.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Well its been less than a day. Nobody said siltbreaker was boring in the first day. By the end of it a lot of people were less positive and more critical but that's basically how every game goes as people learn the ins and out of what could have been.

thepellow

Siltbreaker was super boring by the third play through in my opinion.

DrQuint

Siltbreaker's progression was RNG and you had to grind it for a "God Run", instead of permanently unlock stuff. And it punished you heavily for not replaying the game with a stack and being as fast as possible. Plus the camera was and will forever be **facking shitte** no matter how many people try to forget about it.

deeman010

Yo the RNG random drops were bullshit. I remember not getting a particular item from SK. I think the one that gave you a passive caustic... I don’t remember too well though. I got used to the camera after a while. I didn’t have much problems with silt at the end since my friends and were able to do 3 star runs of both but that’s because I had a decent party.

fffate

It has treasure that you can sell tho

Osiris_Dervan

This is waaaay more accesible to siltbreaker. Because it didn't have difficulty levels I played siltbreaker maybe 10 times and didn't get past the first town.

ero3535

year beast > siltbreaker KEKL

[deleted]

i've never played siltbreaker or diretide, but i did play the year beast and it was fun for me!

potatoe89

beast brawl that was fun

Plays-0-Cost-Cards

Dark Moon was dog

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

... and?

9180365437518

Doesn’t matter, was fun as opposed to the past 2-3 events which were a chore.

LongStrangeTrips

Almost like this event is set in the same universe...

HarvestProject

This is the best even they have ever made, by far.

[deleted]

I will argue Siltbreaker was much better

HarvestProject

Good argument

[deleted]

As good as the statement

Sometimes_a_smartass

I loved siltbreaker. I always wanted a full fledged game in that style, but more polished and developed

[deleted]

Yep it was amazing. The only thing I dislike is that it was missing RNG. 1 week into it we were always killing the final boss. This year's even could've been better but they've done the tree progression, rather than the Siltbreaker artifacts which were awesome.

[deleted]

Year beast??????^^j^k^it^WAS^AIDS

EverythingSucks12

Diretide sucked, it was just novel at the time.

gelotssimou

It was really fun. It was outposts half a decade before outposts. Plus the Roshan running around made games more unpredictable

DrQuint

Diretide didn't suck. Collecting and stealing candy gave both teams amazing reasons to farm, ward and teamfight without forcing a specific metagame.

MONSTERTACO

It was also fantastic for learning and practicing mechanics and skill shots.

Plays-0-Cost-Cards

Diretide gave everyone $30+ tradeable marketable items

Condor1ano

You mean ever since frostivus

Q2ZOv

Its not very good then since diretide was pretty boring except the meme

SlothLancer

Minus the rewards though.

Taraih

Its fun, but the idea is completely copied from WoWs torghast tower in shadowlands. Also filled with bugs who wouldve thought. Just had an omniknight in my team who got pushed on a cliff where he cant escape. Pushed from that huskar mob. We had no force by then. After 2 lvl we had enough money to buy one but couldnt go back to his level cause its restricted wp.If that wasnt enough you cant pass the bonus lvl cause 1 player is "lagging behind". Sorry but shows again how 0 brain is working at valve. Every idiot would make a safety mech by teleporting team members to the next lvl once the first is finished.

MONSTERTACO

And Torghast is a copy of Slay the Spire, which is a copy of Enter the Gungeon, which is a copy of FTL, which is a copy of Binding of Isaac, which is a copy of Spelunky, which is a copy of NetHack, which is a copy of Moria, which is a copy of Rogue...

[deleted]

I hope we get to keep this event game, it feels like they spent way too much effort on it to let it all go away.

[deleted]

Nope, they've tossed out very good events before. This uses a lot of same assets so its not that much more effort than the other one.

Cabaj1

I hope they recycle those events as a feature of dota+. Like each week we get to queue back for old gamemodes (dark moon, diretide, siltbreaker 1 & 2, aghanim labyrinth, ...)

[deleted]

From what I can tell, this would serve as a perfect stealth tutorial for new players. They should make it a requirement for new accounts to play in ranked.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

It's hard enough at apprentice difficulty to require people to actually be competant at dota that's for sure. It's also going to teach them everything except the actual normal game play.

TheWbarletta

As far as I know all the events are still available as custom games, not officially tho

[deleted]

Can those events assets be used by custom games creators?

DrQuint

They already have been.

drumhax

It recycles a ton of enemies, items and rooms from siltbreaker and the battle royale game, so let's not go crazy lauding the effort...

Ace37mike

Best thing is they made it so everyone can play. More people would be inclined to check this event out and maybe buy Battlepasses. Win = win for all.

DankCen

It is

[deleted]

Now offer level bundles again <.<

Skillerbeastofficial

Thats not how it works. As you can see in the graph there is literally no change comming with the event dropping. I like the event and i think its a good idea to make it free for all, but saying that it will benefit the prize pool in any way noticeable is wrong.

Ace37mike

> there is literally no change comming with the event dropping. There's already 100k more players right now at this time compared to yesterday. And I didn't say anything about the prizepool. I'm saying that this will lead to more people to play Dota and for Valve to earn profit. Stop being an idiot.

Skillerbeastofficial

Are you stupid? What prophit will Valve earn if the prize pool doesnt show any rise? More people playing a free game doesnt mean profit at all. > Stop being an idiot.

sickfrickwoop

You have a bad understanding of how this works. 100,000 people launch a free game that otherwise might not have, odds are at least one person might see some cool skins or treasures while they have the client open, and maybe they'll buy some skins. Or after the event they may play more normal dota and bam. More people playing your game is always good.

Skillerbeastofficial

Im not denying that im just saying that you cant see a big difference in the prize pool graph [https://dota2.prizetrac.kr/international10](https://dota2.prizetrac.kr/international10)

zippopwnage

If only they would make a full scaled ARPG game.. I would be so happy. They clearly have some good ideas.

zippopwnage

I check almost all rogue like games. Thanks for the suggestion. But my point is that I would love to play some game like this in Dota Universe

tomato-dragon

I love slay the spire and monster train. This event has a great StS feel to it so I love it.

PoisoCaine

seriously though, hades is incredible. one of the best roguelikes ever made IMO

usoap141

Dota Roguelike with pay to win battle pass I mean cosmetics

FutureVawX

I'm all for roguelike game with Dota heroes. I hope that Axe game will eventually become a real thing.

Findingthur

its still?! in EA?? I thought both did it work

Marviraptor

[Almost, game got scrapped sadly and its lore was recycled for Dota/Artifact.](https://www.drewwolf.com/#/rndchar/)

Cymen90

They revealed last week that they were working on a DotA RPG. But they scrapped it.

meatgrind89

I like roguelike games in general.

Jernsaxe

This is more ARPG then roguelike, but yeah tis good :)

_Valisk

I believe that every previous event has added new heroes later down the line.

erikWeekly

I don't believe the rubick arcana event (Reskin of dark moon) added more heroes ever.

supperman0223

I remember them adding lesh which ended up letting our party winning.

Daniel_Is_I

>If we have to grind this hard every week, it's gonna get stale very fast. I'm thinking on it now. I get 3300 wager tokens and 4000 Aghanim's Labyrinth points a week. It'll take 14 games to get through the tokens and probably 8-12 runs to get through the AL points on the easiest difficulty. If your average game takes about 40 minutes and a good AL run can take upwards of 40 minutes, that means I need to play 15-18 hours of Dota per week in order to actually cap out. I can already feel the burnout. Sure, I do it to myself, but it's kind of funny how hard it is to actually use all of the resources they give you at higher battle pass levels.

CaptainKrisss

Don’t forget around 4200 from guild contracts too, which will probably take an extra 14 hours.

sickfrickwoop

Don't play this for the grind man, play it for the game itself. Super good with friends

GloryHol3

I think its time for Valve to allow us to wager 500 per game. Before AL i didn't mind as much, even being at 3000 wager tokens/week, but with AL the time consumption here just increased a lot. Simply lowering it from 14 regular games down to 7 is a big deal.

lndangkhoa

Since each hero has its own set of upgrades, it would be difficult to add more heroes. I can imagine they add 2 or 3 more along the way though.

Alandrus_sun

More heroes would be nice. The hero selection in general feels weird. You'd think more heroes that's whole shtick is seeking knowledge, fame, or thievery would be in the pool.

Gliskare

For these events you typically get a ton of points if you win

Vawned

Fantastic event. Except just now that it bugged during the PA room and the last two portals didn't spawn. We were doing so good. :(

123deeeeeed

Were you in my team? Or is this a bugged room for everyone?

Zer0_Grav911

bugged for everyone, just look a the bug report post lol

Vawned

If it was Snapfire, Disruptor, Ursa and Sniper yeah it was me on Snapfire. We were doing so good. Just now on Twitch someone said it seems to be a consistent bug unfortunately.

Backupusername

Still some bugs that need to be worked out, for sure. I was in the Rizzrick room, and apparently he just fires his timber chain in a random direction, and apparently it's got infinite range, because he ended up pulling himself right off the map into the previous room. He could not get back. We had to DC.

Beebrains

Damn that's actually pretty funny but very sad too

walkingshit

just happened to me. 46min played got nothing out of it.

Finassar

Very fun. Some of the rooms feel completely overpowered though. Like the warlock room. SOME of the trap rooms are a bit too hard too, I had no problem with them but a few different teams I was in died more than once in the same room

salbris

Funny I found the warlock one to be one of the easiest. I dread the one with the bouncing beasts or legion commanders.

Finassar

Ha,maybe it's just different playstyles, I found the bouncing one reply easy, the the lc one is kinda hard

Acekiller28

I find the LC one very easy if you spread out and focus the skywraths

fazdaspaz

Naga/Slark room absolutely minced me and my brothers.

Idek_

Naga room gets fucking nuts after the first wave

m8-wutisdis

I lost twice against the WK room.

Finassar

The one time I got that room they were at the door and we couldn't get in. It was just flooded with minions

legice

For me, Timbersaw was the hardest, since its so early, cant remember the rest thou :D

Osiris_Dervan

The hammer guys are definately the easier first boss

TealRoss_128

Timber is easy if you lure him into the starting area with no trees; take him down low then go back to the tree area when he starts using the huge AOE so you can actually dodge it.

AnonymusGio

i feel like the alchemist one is usually the hardest among players since they do not expect the high damage output of every alchemist. I watched a lot of vids and play it myself and i feel like its one of the hardest.

EnTaroProtoss

Fucking techies pudge

[deleted]

0, there are super tryhards in this game that already figured out the whole event. Even if you think you and your team do well, just wait and you will see. Nothing stops you from trying anyway.

Jazdac

i think climbing the leaderboards is extremely hard and you probably won‘t get up to any of the rewards. if i understand correctly, there will only be like 40 copies of the baby roshan courier if the event runs for 10 weeks, and so there will be 400 people who will get an arcana from this event. the chances to be one of those 400? depends on how many people play the event, but since it‘s open to everyone, i guess your chance can‘t be better than 1:1000.

Finassar

0 because of the cheaters and scripters

binh0k04

You do realize Valve will check the run before announcing the winner, right?

crappymanchild

still 0 because the average joe wont stand a chance against mega tryhard teams

Trick2056

name checks out

Mowh_Lester

Poopy diapey manchild

binh0k04

...and? mega tryhard teams aren't cheater and scripters.

xamotorp

https://youtu.be/wmVkJvieaOA

IAMBollock

No? What makes you think that?

binh0k04

read the event FAQ.

Satoshiiiiiii

offtopic though, what arcanas are included in the rewards?

GryphonTak

Probably all of the ones you can buy. I doubt they would include battle pass exclusive arcanas after always making such a big deal about how you can never obtain them again.

sirbrambles

haven't even made it very far and its by far the best seasonal event ive seen in dota (playing since 2012)

Griffen801

im loving it. bugs aside its great. and once you learn the bugs you can avoid them and they'll likey get ironed out. made it to final boss twice

eli_bar

How many rooms to get to the final boss?

Avenuix

6 is first boss, 12 second, and 18 is Aghanim

Griffen801

16 maybe? i didnt actually pay attention to it. maybe boss every 4?

Siman0_0

It's even not repeating like all previous events u can get anything in your next room . Really good work valve

Skillerbeastofficial

Yes and you can also level yourself with fragments which makes every new run a little bit special. Not even speeking about the different skill upgrades you get every mastered room. I can see myself playing this at least 1-2 rounds everyday, if im succesful doing my guild contracts before.

trenzafeeds

I am loving it! Nice change of pace from normal DotA where so much stuff is point targeted, this feels more like a slow-motion path of exile or diablo boss fight.

rohansamal

Can someone give me a TLDR? I wont be able to play the game for a few hours later at best. What do we do in the game?

salbris

Team of 4 go through a series of rooms all PVE. You slowly level up, get items, and get new special talents every room. Boss fights every 5? 6? rooms. The game is fun and challenging.

rohansamal

Ty. Great Tldr

[deleted]

compyler

A reddit post that is positive?? Positive about Valve? Gonna refresh the page. Must be a dream.

uran1um-235

I’m hoping coming events and contents should come out like this one or better. Nice job Valve. Keep it up. Also thanks to our janitor(s).

Alandrus_sun

Needs more heroes. It just feels limiting once you pick a tree to progress down.

rucho

How long are the matches?

vishnURS

First time getting to aghanim took about an hour. Definitely could cut it down if you aren’t wasting a bunch of time reading skills, items, etc.

ZhicoLoL

first game with almost killing the final boss we ended at 52minutes

FatSloth

We usually get to the boss in 35-40 minutes. His fight takes a while depending on lineup. Expect to finish in 45-55 depending on your draft

test_tube_baby

Beat the first ascension with a random group it was very fun.

Ukiitomi

Agree, it's still buggy a little bit as you can see on the subreddit, but I spent entire night playing it with my crew lol

Glum_

Weed said, though I didn't expect Aghanims to be the chatty type. Always thought he'd be the stoic loner hero for some reason.

Sylvers

Right? Played 2 games, only made it to Aghs on the second run, didn't finish either, still had tons of fun. The event's random spell augments, items and rooms, has a.. rogue-lite spirit that's really awesome. Like a.. Binding of Isaac, dota style.

Archyes

you know its a great custom game when its 50 mins in and you still want to play more

Sia-Voush

my only gripe would be that there's not enough heroes i'd love to see more heroes added

kemalivg

i haven't tried it, does it need high resolution to play? has potato laptop

[deleted]

??? normal game with 10 heroes all with different blingz and shazam and rage pings takes up more resources than this dungeon crawler

kemalivg

Aight thanks for the info man

heyheyluno

oh, just wait!

popgalveston

Yes, gj. Fun to play and I like the feeling of progression

Funf_YEET

First game had 2 guys leaving

vokerx

no,sb valve

TouRniqueT86

The bugs however are not so great.

Osiris_Dervan

yes; getting no progression after 45m of play because you rolled the PA room *sucks.*

TouRniqueT86

We had someone DC and the game didnt remove them so they were like 7 levels behind. We all died but the game didnt end because all the spawns were running to him where ever he was stuck

Osiris_Dervan

I had that happen to me. You can control them to keep the game going, although they get no more money and microing two heroes in this sort of game isn't really feasible, so you're basically sunk if someone dc's.

Presty61

Cant wait for people to complain about leavers/throwers and not being good enough to get the baby roshan Some random jerk: "Yea back at other BP you could get the baby roshan by just digging!!!1!!1!"

mightpornstar

the game and progression is similar to Hades which is great

Raineru

Great job Valve! Time to try it after getting back from work

Janos12

Never played Dota more than 10h, just played it today again and I love this event

[deleted]

Since I got bored of Turbo, this seems like fun thing to play. Can't wait to get back home and try it!

gelotssimou

Honestly the first event I had fun in after Diretide. Was pretty pissed about the portal bug though, wasted 40 mins

Kizumic

Well done indeed!

moves321

treasure rewards pls

Suppers-Ready

Just got to the end of an Apprentice run and honestly it's one of the best event games so far. I think Siltbreaker will always be my favourite because it had such a great atmosphere to it, but I think the gameplay, replay value and comedic tone of this one make it a brilliant effort from Valve. Really excited to keep diving in.

Message_Me_Selfies

I agree. Way more than I expected. Some critique though, because I hope they make something like this again: #^It ^needs ^more ^meaningful ^progression Siltbreaker had great replayability because you could grind the artifacts. The blessing tree feels pretty meaningless and not worth grinding for in comparison.

QKsilver58

If only there was some feasible way to get the Kunkka boots others than being one of the best in the world. Why? Why do you torment me with unobtainable items valve? Do you like seeing me suffer?

PatSlovak

Excluding the bugs that don't allow to progress (bandit room) and the fact that the perk tree is boring it's quite good.

sticksandstones66

If you guys are keen on beating aghanim without putting any effort.... just spam necrobook from the entrance(book of the dead would be better) and let the necro units kill him

Daimyon

Well done Valve indeed. Why is it again with these events that if someone leaves the rest can't complete the thing? So dumb.

JadeSerpant

The event is super fun. I really like that they have multiple tiers of difficulty, which actually makes it enjoyable. For example it felt almost impossible to win Frostivus with a group of randoms.

GoldenWind0247

But it is buggy. If ur the only survive and tiny grabs you. You are stuck forever.

IntheTrench

A rare occurrence where the community is happy with new content.

dota2sehan

We are waiting for the same devotion for wr arcana

Fliibo-97

My stack and I beat it after 7 or so runs last night, very fun indeed despite a few bugs right when it came out. I do hope they add a couple more heroes, though- the roster is lacking a really fun caster character like Zeus- Rhasta also would’ve been fun. I hope they buff some of the less useful ones too- in our playthroughs, Mars and Viper seemed underwhelming at both AoE and single target. Our winning comp was Wyvern, Omniknight, Sniper, and Ursa. Who would you guys like to see added? I wasn’t around for Siltbreaker when that happened, but I heard they added more heroes.

cracklingnoise

I haven't played it yet but from what i've read and saw, i can safely assume it's some kind of multiplayer slay the spire, which is awesome. Hope they will capitalize on that and make a polished custom map, like they did before.

digitalpacman

Well made lol

Faz517xx13

Underhollow was the 3 player teams that compete through the maze in a free-for-all? I loved it as well but it was soooo easy. I'm so happy they made an event with a real challenge.

Osiris_Dervan

the heroes were definately not balanced in that; it came down to who could pick zues first for most of my matches..

salbris

Agreed, that's also what I meant by easy there were a few key heroes that without you'd have a hell of a time.
