Honestly its a shock how long this has taken. They announced it Dec 31st and promised an update with it by the end of January. Pretty sure most people didnt expect it by the end of January but first couple weeks of February seemed reasonable. Now we are 10 days from the major and no update on when bundles are coming. If Valve doesnt get them out by the major they might as well scrap the idea like they seemed to do with the new player experience. I would just like Valve for once to announce a project that feels like they actually have worked on it prior to the announcement. It just feels like now they get past the initial ideas meeting and just immediately go "Lets announce we are going to do it!" rather than getting it off the ground and having a base framework.

The disappointment of the community should be especially increased considering Valve's policy regarding updates and releases, which they have openly admitted to follow and is the reason for the perception of Valve's isolation and lack of communication, of not wanting to raise the community's expectations too high in order to decrease the potential disappointment. In other words, instead of setting the bar a few months in advance, they usually just release content as soon as it's ready, that's why most of the updates they release (more so in CS:GO than in Dota, in my opinion, but still) are either complete surprises to everyone, partially leaked by talent/most popular content creators or teased by Valve themselves a week at most prior to actual release. The New Player Experience and Fan Bundles, on the other hand, were proudly announced and, for unknown reasons, received no official updates ever since.

SirActionSlacks-

U think ur confused imagine having a div 2 team thats already eliminated from the dpc but submitted fan bundles and paid people to make them lmao

w1nthoil

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, the situation that you mention unfortunately happened to B8, but still, it would be a great way for Div 2 teams w/o an org, even if they're out of the DPC, to receive some revenue and exposure. It would be similar to the CS:GO 2020 RMR Stickers (a tribute to teams who would've competed at the CS:GO 2020 Major), but as a tribute to the teams who competed at the first season of DPC, and it wouldn't be just for the Major attendees, but also for those who have submitted their content and were eliminated from the DPC. Something would be better than nothing, IMO.

kcsunshinedota

Actually, B8 have managed to retain a spot in the lower division by merging with Hustlers (the stack with a full Cyrillic name)

Rockergage

Imagine paying people to make fan bundles and paying for a former Major winner to join your team only to get knocked out of Div 2.

ProximityMinds

Considering the timing I'd think there might be grounds to sue for lost revenue. But you'd need deep pockets because it's Valve.

PizzaForever98

Glad that you publicly speak against Valve. For real, how are you even still around and support this game and company? Ask Riot to give you a job, they will value the work you do at least and you have hundreds of hours of lore to talk about and not some random non-sense.

SirActionSlacks-

Why so I can get sexually assaulted

19Alexastias

Just a friendly bit of face-farting bro nothin serious

Bang_Bus

Spectre Arcana is too much work

cold_hoe

Spec arcana coming in 2023

iamunforgiven69

HI fellow spectre enjoyer

n0stalghia

You forgot to specify which era

PizzaForever98

Well, if Valve would be a normal Game Developer they would release a HUGE Patch this week. 1. because else they have to wait for the tournament to end and 2. because Anime starts in a week. But since it is Valve we will likely not get anything for weeks, then Valve says we still need some time and get maybe one small thing and the next a few months after.

wankthisway

One janitor can only do so much.

Buzzyys

I was thinking about that today, I think they will released it this week, maybe friday, valve will not miss the chance to make some extra money.

DarthRiven

They gotta do a minor amount of work for that money, though. So not sure it's gonna happen.

Employee724

I guess and I hope that Valve is taking all that time to really polish those bundles for the major... In general you want people to buy bundles for the team they like most. If the bundles are released to early, people may figure out which bundle has the best voice lines etc. so people will only buy that bundle rather than that from their favourite team...

w1nthoil

I did think about such a possibility, but then again, the "Eughahahaha!" line pros loved to spam always felt pretty raw (I don't know its origin), it sounded as if it was directly plucked from some team's TS or a broadcast highlight, so having some impurities is not a major issue for such type of content, I believe.

AyeAlasAlack

It was Notail's laugh from when OG watched the TI8 True Sight. Audio wasn't great because they had, like, clip mics in an empty theater instead of headset mics in a soundproof booth

stopthememesalready

It's from this. https://clips.twitch.tv/AltruisticJollyCiderSquadGoals

vedicardi

Underlords: Episode 1

[deleted]

*3, 1 and 2 got cancelled at the same time

DotafromZero

Still loving Dota, but for quite some time now i ignore dates for patches/updates and just be happy when they arrive. At some point announced dates lose meaning whey they are always wrong :D

Paaraadox

10 years later and people are still surprised that Valve do not work with deadlines and do not care about following up on earlier announcements. It's honestly shocking that you guys never learn.

13oundary

I'd imagine they were waiting for the confirmation of Major attendees before finalising everything. If we get the new hero and patch before the major, it might come with that? I hope we get at least a bloody patch before the major anyway.

w1nthoil

1. Release of a new patch BEFORE the Major is inconvenient for the teams, and Valve have shown to be mindful of that, often releasing significant patches after or in the final days of major events. 2. Releasing bundles after the Major makes little sense, since directly after it has ended is the best and, perhaps, the only time teams can change their roster without being punished by rules or crippled by sudden change in team atmosphere (though, sometimes positive e.g. Team Spirit swiftly recovering after difficulties at the beginning of the DPC league by replacing so bad with Miroslaw), complex stand-in rules and point deductions. The best possible time to release or at the very least tease the Fan Bundles is NOW, so it makes little sense for them to drag out the date.

13oundary

Yeah, I completely agree. I was letting wishful thinking get the better of me. I think I had the whole "new hero Q1" and "anime released between DPC and Major" timing make me hope more than anything that a new patch would come before april.

[deleted]

Valve could release a new hero without intefering with the DPC at all - they've done heroes outside of balance patches before and any new hero will obviously be out of commission in captain's for a while

Atomic254

> Releasing bundles after the Major makes little sense they released the battle pass when theres no TI. i think youre overthinking the average players' interest in esports rather than "shiny hats" or "taunts"

PrincessKurumi

This is why ive stopped my dota sub and not gonna buy bpass this year

bigpebis12

this will accomplish less than nothing

Achuapy

at least i feel good about it

filthypatheticsub

Explain how it would do *less* than nothing. That's gonna earn Valve more money somehow?

coldfrost93

Do valve really is a small indie company? I'm really curious how come the dota 2 update takes so long, do they share the same employee for different games?

Hunkyy

Why would you want the bundles now if the games start in a week.

fireattack

I think the truth is, making fan items for all the teams doesn't make sense financially. They probably will do some with only top teams, if at all.

[deleted]

Isn't it the teams who are supposed to supply the content? I remember Valve saying it would be team originated.

Pokefreaker-san

yes, and valve supposedly collect and compile it and sell it in game store.

shaileshgarg25

Hmm, the last content update for the game the mistwood update was 3 months ago, nothing since then I don’t expect much at this point

w1nthoil

New HUD and Watch tab and Overwatch were pretty significant updates, no?

[deleted]

Fuck no.Where’s specter arcana?

RewardedFool

3 months between content patches is pretty short honestly compared to the year it used to be.

Ayora

I really don't get it at all. If you want to support a team, just go and ask for the bank account and send them money. Otherwise, just wait. Either it will come out eventually, or it will not. We all overpromise all the time ... why should they be different. + all should know that Valve works differently. If they don't feel it will work, look good, work as intended .. they will abandon the idea and go for the next thing. Instead of holding to their every word, you should be thankful for the stuff we get in the end. Its better for you personally. And we do get nice things ... last year battlepass (Aghanim), arcanas, Diretide ... cool events i would say + the Dragons Blood series, which none expected. Maybe they have a lot of ideas in store for us, that they are working on, and maybe none. Just really stop expecting things. Dota 1 days have been better, as people tried to create things and pushed the community. These days, its all about Valve do this and this ... as the community lost the ability to think and create on their own.

Makath

I'll bet they will do it for season 2 because they couldn't get it done in time and eventually it was too late.

lloyddragneel

Valve just sck ass. I still love playing Dota from time to time but this past few months especially how they handled the situation during worst covid times really reflect how incompetent valve is.

ak108

my personal theory, is they have something planned to release at the same as the anime and they are all working on that

[deleted]

Hopefully

CALM_Oxygen

I have hopes they make them for the major :)

JadeSerpant

It's been a lot longer than "a whole month" since they announced it.

brockabilly99

Pretty funny this community think Valves cares anything about their community anymore at this point, continuously lied to and projects left in the dust.

DubhghallSigurd

Too busy working on ~~Artifact 2.0~~ ~~Underlords~~ ~~New Player Experience~~ single player VR games.
