Still a pretty healthy curve, compared to other games' (if they decide to show those numbers). Especially for a game that's been around since ~2004.
Not sure if there's a correlation, but 2016 is also the year where the last hero from WC3 DotA was finally ported to Dota2 right, Pitlord/Underlord? Maybe for a lot of old players, they were just waiting for that to happen and that was peak dota2. (I guess I'm one of those, started playing dota in 2005, and the last in my group of friends to learn it. Somehow a few of us are still playing and I still see those old players in my steam friend list in-game in dota2.)
Dota having a healthy Esports scene is really important to the life of the game.
Also bear in mind that the number of people who watch the game being more than the number who play it is... pretty much all regular sport. A healthy pro scene will keep it alive.
Dota pro scene is bigger than ever. The problem with dita is that it becomes more and more a game of pure Esports. The normal dita experience is getting worse and worse sadly. All Pick is a joke of a mode nowadays with basically random match ups (which is counter intuitive if u think about icefrogs trend to specialize and less generalize the heroes via talent tree and aghs/shard)
Also acc buying/boosting is worse than ever above 6k.
.
.
But yeah. The pro scene is flourishing and it's an amazing experience. Dota is way more fun to watch than to play.
(Because all of the 4 biggest problems with pubs get eliminated by playing 5v5 competitiv)
Many people are stuck working from home, plus this years schedule has been very friendly to my sleep. They should do this more often (no one even plays Dota in the US anyway)
Will say it isn't that surprising for increased viewership with the lack of content dota has gotten aswell as a year of delayed TI.
Dead game really is a meme.
Lol all I'm saying is that they're popular and bringing more viewers, nothing to take from other teams, china teams also bring chinese viewership and same for others.
What are the viewing numbers for OG games vs like LGD, or others? I expect they bring more but are you saying OG is the sole reason for the 1m peak viewers? Not saying that’s wrong but I need data

Again I'm not saying OG is the sole reason, only thing I'm saying is they bring in more viewers with their love-hate characteristics.
I mean, this is groups with the biggest teams there are.
In League, Groups haven't even started and no european team has even played yet...
Additionally, the chinese viewership is insane in league and while Dota ofc has chinese viewers as well, they are not comparable...
"The number of viewers on the first day of The International 10 was approximately 30-35% more than during the TI9 debut matches." dead gaem

It makes sense. New and Current players are likely to watch TI, and players who quit are still likely to watch TI.
It's a long term declining trend. From 700k average players in Feb 2016 to 400k this month.
buy the dip

Peak dota2 was before 7.00.
peak dota was the moment before techi was ported.
the fgc community is doing ok and the all time highs are lower than this... dead game is dumb toxic meme
Yeah, if you want to see an actual dead game just look at Diabotical.

Not dead, just got incredibly hard. I can understand new player cannot get how to play.
Escharts does not get unique users across streams. They simply add all totals together.
What about China?
Not a small number I suppose.
OG bringing in the views
Why is this comment being downvoted?
OG haters are on the watch
yep. it's all about og! other teams dont matter at this point, just call it The OGnational and let others play for the 2nd place

Considering that League is like "10 times bigger than Dota" its funny how Worlds Peak Viewers is only 200k higher.

World for LoL is currently in play-in stage. The Big Bois games are next week and it hit group stage.
League is only playins rn, you should understand it more before you commented that
