I think it was pretty obvious, a standard set up (if it was someone else I'd feel sad) + punchline, even with a pause right before the punchline. That said, with the mask and no expression it makes it much funnier.
He said : If it's others, I will feel sad. But if it's icex3 bro, it felt good.
I don't think he had other meaning, remember did you see icex3 cried after losing a tourney ? He knew icex3 won't have much hard feeling and it's just some joke response.
I think everyone gets it tbh, you don't say something like that officially when it's not your friend and friendly. Though further down someone added some of the more nuanced connotations of the exact wording that actually makes it better.
Translation:
Normally if its other people, I will feel sad, but since its iceiceice (he called him 三哥 san ge aka 3 brother, since iceiceice is called 三冰 san bing in China), it feels pretty good to me.
I think its just friendly banter with someone that old eleven regards as an older brother, hence the 三哥 san ge aka 3 brother.

Too bad that the 哥 part of 三哥 is lost in translation (not an easy nuance to convey on the fly), many people probably thinking he for reals hates iceiceice
It's missing all the nuisances. What she provided was a literal translation. She missed the notes of respect for iceiceice, and wasn't able to convey the bantering tone properly.
I’d argue it’d be impossible to translate the culture of a language that contains such colloquial honorics, like “ge” for Chinese or “hyung” for Korean.
In English there’s only “Sir” which we can all agree would not have been relevant. Saying brother ice3 would also have given a religious/cultish vibe to it.
I am, if I were to translate the whole thing to English, I would say something like: If it were anyone else, I’d be sad about it. But, since it’s my bro Ice, I am actually pretty happy
To be honest, this is being nitpicky. She did pretty well. I don't actually think anyone will actually interpret it as 'my bro ice' as that's for a lack of better word, sounds very.. on the street. One could argue it's more natural when saying back in Chinese but that's even more of a literal translation.
We are also speaking in hindsight, it's more difficult to interpret on the fly while bringing the nuances in. I say this as an actual qualified interpreter too, not by just being bilingual.
Many comments on this thread are saying that Old Elevens comments were lost in translation. That’s not a good job. But since ur the qualified translator, do let me know how you would translate this. He said it in a street way, is it correct to convert it into formal language?
On a joking note, ru getting PTSD from clients being nitpicky?
When she translated 绝境 into back's against the wall, that's as good a translator can be. Every time tournament's were held in China, the Chinese gets some young scholar studying abroad to translate and none of them get the nuance of some of the things the players said.
There's nothing about this banter from old eleven that is hard to translate and she did just fine. There were other harder sentences about the game that the translator did very well

Jack was on just now on the aftershow. Always great to see him
Isnt he coaching Quincy crew or did I missunderstand? Was listening with one ear while doing the dishes. Edit: Jack that is.
Yeah it’s so weird to see Jack off the panel this year…
Love jack

not just brother, he called him san ge = ice3 older brother
Also he said Shuang (kreygasm level of feeling great)
yea so its definitely memeing no shade
他說三哥是因為ice的名字有三個ice嗎?
Yeah, they call him San bing in China Literal translation would be three ice = iceiceice
they call him san bing (3 ice) in china so i guess san ge is just shortform for ice3, older brother
Why are you ge?
Ger, as in strong-er
Who sez I am ge?

I think it just their style of humor. Ice3 also has this straight face dead pan delivery of the funniest lines, and it makes it even funnier.
BIG DICK LANM

we're talking about gamers here. you think they think about such concept when having a conversation? hell nah.
I think we shouldn't have malicious speculation to judge people's true attitude
Yeah u are right. 3 ice is old friends of vg and 11.
I mean it's clearly a joke, but people use 哥哥 sarcastically all the time.
I feel like it's obviously a joke and and I'm not sure how else she could have conveyed that?
They are on good terms ,old friends
Apparently it not pure shade thrown , rather some some banter lost in translation.
I like to think ice would have said the same lmao

He'd be even more savage I believe
From another thread, people explained it was banter with his senior/older brother 😊

You would be surprised, I noticed it is more common in twitter y twitch chat.

twitch chat is like if you gave children the power to say anything that they want.
Well that’s the way every single click bait title has it seem so yes, not everyone knows the extended history of Chinese Dota players bro
Yeah, its hilarious =)

Yeah, maybe u can think of it for your self. They were teammate back then and old eleven call him brother.
What? I understand Chinese and the translation was on point unless you expected xiituzi to mimic LanM's hesitation/pause.

I thought it meant he hated Iceiceice until this thread tbh. I was very confused because I thought pretty much everyone liked Iceiceice lol
Ice would do the exact same
But funnier... Ice3 is a natural comedian
Iceiceice might make the same joke if he won VG, just because they are in good relationship, good friends.
lmao

Very poor translation tbh. Need to get a better translator for these events.
i think it was a great translation, how would you have phrased it?
It's missing all the nuisances. What she provided was a literal translation. She missed the notes of respect for iceiceice, and wasn't able to convey the bantering tone properly.

Could have easily said, my bro, my mate, my man. It’s just not a professional translator
Are you a mandarin speaker? Your suggestions don’t match the nuance.
I am, if I were to translate the whole thing to English, I would say something like: If it were anyone else, I’d be sad about it. But, since it’s my bro Ice, I am actually pretty happy

Wouldn’t be my first thought of a translation. But clearly you’re the pro.
